In his remarks today, he says he could not explain how the steroids got into his body. WTF? Did aliens abduct him in his sleep or what?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:11 PM)Cubs have acquired Matt Lawton.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:35 PM)because your going to get the cardinals
:puke
Does anyone want to tell a Sox fan from downstate why he is supposed to appreciate the Cardinals? Good mercy everyone down here is wearing red shirts over their erections and my game is pre-empted by one of their games 3 HOURS LATER? I am going to faint.
Mods feel free to move this to a more appropriate forum if you need to. I don't feel that congenial right now

What the hell? Anyone else from downstate able to answer this. Why is our Fox affiliate not carrying the game this afternoon? ARGHHHHH!!!!

Stark's comments are odd. I was watching BBTN around that time and there was no mention of the White Sox at all during the trade rumor talk. I mean none.

If they get Wagner, he will only be around for the rest of the year, but that's acceptable. Wagner would be the "bridge" to Jenks in 2006. Meanwhile, there is a World Series trophy to win before that.

Hello, Red Sox management, this is Kenny Williams. In return for Manny Ramirez, I am prepared to offer you the Charlotte and Birmingham rosters; and your grandson may have Scott Podsednik and Lisa Dergan's future daughter's hand in marriage.

I hate to say it, but I am resigned to the fact his career is effectively finished. With his injury history and the weight that ankle has to support, even if he did come back he might as well be walking on a light bulb

Such irony. There was talk in another thread saying the post all star break malaise this year doesn't compare to 2000 because we had to deal with injuries then.
I was wondering, rather then buying out his contract, could the Sox simply "convert" him from a rostered player to the highest paid bench coach in major league history?

Help me out
in SLaM
Yep, many of their games are against international teams and others are against American teams who are not officially part of the league. I know there is one opponent who isn't part of the league and plays a partial season but will play a full time schedule and join the league next year. I think if you go to the home page of the league itself there is a place that describes how that works (that's how I found out anyway). And I must add, Jennie Finch pitches for the Chicago Bandits!

Well in the time since these rumors began, BMac has pitched two stellar games in Charlotte. Not only is the idea of this trade getting old, but it is losing its attraction as well...

If I were KW, I guess I could always make an offer. I would have to require that Boston pick up 30% of his contract, that we give up no more than two full time starters and two top level propsects, and that Manny sign a clause that he must wear a uniform that fits him.

Reckless prediction:
1st MLB win for Jenks?

FWIW, on Politte, my uncle was his coach when he was in high school in St. Louis. We were discussing him a couple weeks back and he said the key to his success this year has been the way the Sox used him (i.e. not overworking him). he was referring more to the fact that Cliff had had a history of injuries because of overwork rather than just simple ineffectiveness. Still, he has been thrust into more of a role with Hermy's situation lately so I wonder if that could have anything to do with it.

You know, I really think Oakland looks better when they are wearing the jerseys with green on them that say "Athletics". What's with the blue?

Well dang, its quieter out there than a theif in a monastery. Hmm...

Agree to disagree... it's such a nice thought.
Its cool, if folks think I am mistaken on something, I want to know about it, cause I just may be . Now the term "f***tard"... well, at least I have another term to add to my vocabulary, lol.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:37 AM)Well, the regulars have played a s***load of games together, so if they haven't "gelled" yet, they aren't going to. As far as getting rusty, I'd be more concerned of them getting tired. The regulars will still end the season playing a ton of games. A day off here and there can only do them good. Its not like they don't do anything on games they have off anyways. For the most part, they have the same pregame regimine as they do on games they start.
I understand you're being concerned. I just find it hard to believe that giving your starters a game off once or twice a week would do much damage.
Well, I do tend to agree with you and Yas. My (probably irrational) concern is that Oz might give the starters even more rest now that the division isn't in doubt. I may be wrong, but if he did that, I would wonder a bit because it would seem unconventional to me.
Ah crap, I need to get off this paranoia. I am worrying about a consequence that may not happen from a decision that may not happen.
Thanks, guys.

Folks, this is an honest question about an honest concern; I am not trying to stir things up or simply disagree to disagree. So...If Ozzie implements a "rest the regulars" policy so they are not banged up in the playoffs, could it cause them to get rusty by not playing together as often? The infielders (especially the SS and second baseman) need to always be on the same wavelength and always know and anticipate where eachother is. That comes with playing together continuously. I agree, so far it has not been a problem, but what if he decides to rest the regs even more as we go through the hot August stretch run? So my concern: will breaking that up frequently on the stretch drive cause them to lose their "gel" when playing together?
Really, this may not be an intelligent concern, but it is an honest one, so set me straight.

I can see your point too. By the way, do you think there will be any tension if the boys on both teams wind up at the same Dairy Queen when they go for after-game treats?
