  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 04:17 PM) That was referring to Gordon Beckham, srry 4 confus But yes, I also do think nothing of Viciedo. I will (very) gladly eat it if he turns into something, but I don't think he can see the ball well enough to recognize what it's going to do. Hacker 4 Lyfe Yeah I don't think anything of Beckham either, but I'm willing to be wrong. With Viciedo, he looked incredible coming back from injury last year. I think he does see the ball pretty well, but he always seems so overanxious and wants to put everything into the left field seats. That's why I''m hopeful having someone like Abreu on the roster will help him, and that perhaps Abreu himself will even work with Viciedo personally on being more patient. I don't think he will, but, unlike Beckham, I certainly feel he has the tools still at this point.
  2. Usually they will play 1 extra inning and if it's tied after 10, they'll call it then.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) He isn't average though, that's the problem. Career fWAR by season since his rookie year: 2.5, 0.6, 0.5, 0.9, 1.0 A league average player is 2.0 fWAR. He's been substantially below average for 4 consecutive seasons, making up 80% of his career. His career wRC+ is 86, or 14% below league average. UZR grades himout as about scratch on defense, and even if you think he's a little better than that, it's not nearly enough to turn him into an average player. This is about the one area where we disagree at all because I still think that Viciedo has a good chance to develop into a good hitter, but at his current numbers, he's a platoon partner.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Josh Hamilton ‏@thejoshhamilton 28m Not any fun being in the Texas doghouse, is it @IKinsler3? This seems like a clubhouse that's about to fall apart.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) So...how about we improve that 2-17 record against the Indians this year. Well they already traded Reed so that immediately double the win total.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) I don't know how that possibly correlates. I don't think it would happen, but in theory it makes sense. If you manage to injure the kicker after the first touchdown, every subsequent touchdown and field goal chance has a significantly reduced chance at being converted into additional points.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) AZ recently said they were thinking about trading a SS for a young C to come up after Montero, so I'd guess Trahan is probably either unavailable or very disappointing. Then again, practically nothing that Kevin Towers does makes sense to me. There was a time when I believed he was one of the better GMs in the game. He has been terrible to a Krivsky/Bill Smith type of bad over there.
  8. If the Dodgers had such little faith in Guerrero, why would they deal Justin Sellers? Sellers is going to be exactly the type of player they'd want on hand as depth. They have Chone Figgins, Brendan Harris, and Justin Turner in camp. All of those guys offer insurance as a backup or stopgap to Guerrero. If the Dodgers trade for a starting 2B, I'll eat the entire peel of an orange and record it.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) It doesn't necessarily mean they are going to give up on him for good, Hanley will be a FA at the end of the year and Uribe next season. They can take their time with Guerrero in the minors until he forces their hand and then they can make room for him or trade him off for some pieces to help down the stretch. More from Bowden on the need for a 2B "Yes, they signed Alex Guerrero to a four-year, $28 million deal last fall, but the 27-year-old Cuban hasn't proved himself in spring training, and manager Don Mattingly told me the position is "up in the air." I was in Dodgers camp Friday, and multiple evaluators told me that Guerrero needs extensive time at Triple-A to refine his skills at second base (he played shortstop in Cuba) and regain his timing after not playing at all last year. The club loves his work ethic and thinks he will be a contributor down the line, but signs point to him beginning the season in Albuquerque. Assuming that's true, the Dodgers need a second baseman. Let's break down the possible alternatives to Guerrero both inside and outside of the organization." He's been a US citizen for about 3 months and he's been in camp for like 2-3 weeks. That bolded line right there tells me how BS this entire report is. It's Bowden trying to stir up the s***pot because he's bored and it's a boring time in baseball. The only thing they'd be looking to possibly do is get an insurance policy and perhaps a backup. They aren't going to give up anything worthwhile for that.
  10. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) If Nieto gets one more single he has my vote for our starting catcher But what if he only hits homers from here on out?
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 07:56 AM) I realize he is 27, but I read it more as Guerrero not being ready for the majors in 2014, so they need a stopgap this year. They don't have the patience or ability to let him develop in the majors. I don't think they are completely giving up on him for good. Why can't they let him develop this year? They have the most talented roster in the majors WITH Guerrero starting at 2B. They are set to run away with the West. I see no reason they can't let him develop in the majors. Now, if you said this because they want to give him the Puig treatment and have him start in AAA only to hit .400 there, then that's a different story entirely. They still have the resources necessary within the AAA and MLB teams to make that work without having to acquire a 2B.
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) It's never going to happen, but I would love to see Byrd in Green Bay. He's one of the only free agents I like and maybe the only one worth overpaying for. He is going to get paaaaiiiid. The Bills offered $30 mill over the first 3 years, and he still said no. That would have made him either the top paid safety in the league, or like in the top 3. As ridiculous as it is, I could see him getting like 6/$72 with like $40 mill guaranteed, especially with all the money out there right now. For a guy who had plantar fasciitis problems last year, that's definitely a risky contract. The only place I do not want to see him end up is New England.
  13. Bills didn't tag Byrd. That is what bad franchises do, and the Bills are among the worst, so it comes as no surprise.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) I hope none of those people had a male relative in the hospital at the time. At 2:30 in the morning, seeing it coming from me, and knowing I'm a White Sox fan, that would not be the case.

I drunk dialed a bunch of people this weekend and left voicemails saying "HE GONE"
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) Guys headed to ML bullpens aren't going to get high grades. I think he's right re Beck and his low K rate. Ks are good predictor imo (both ways) and if he can't K minor league hitters, it's hard to see how he'll be successful against ML hitters. Chris Beck has started one year and his K rate improved in his 4 starts at AA. If his stuff was returning, that's when we'd see it. It's best to figure it out by the end of the year how he's going to turn out.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) Is the .25 like a rain shortened game that ends in a tie and never gets finished? Yeah or a volcano

  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) I could see 77 wins. Not 78 and not 76. 77. What about 77.25 wins?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 1h White Sox closer candidate Daniel Webb left Thursday because of a death in his family. Team has said he can take as much time as he needs. That's not good.
  21. I think the true talent of last year's team, prior to blowing it up, was around a 72-75 win team. With the additions made, I see no reason they can't hit 77-82 this year.
  22. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 28, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) 6 pages in....took way too long He does suck, they should start him out in A ball, he is not very good at baseball.
  23. I was a skinny as hell until I hit 25. Beer and malaise have added 30 pounds to my frame very quickly. That's why I'm back in the gym now.
  24. The first game of Spring Training is like arriving at your destination after a 10 hour car drive. You're all psyched because you're finally there, and then you realize you have to drive back still, which suuuuuuuuucks.
  25. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 28, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) I've bought my wife SEVERAL toys (vibrator, dildo). She loves them and it hasnt ruined our sex life at all. Oh I know, I just added it because I thought it was funny. If anything, I think they make sex life better.
