  1. exactly. hudson and his $6 mill contract would look great onthe sox. But we don't know what the A's want. Probably too much.
  2. It is if you have a city you like.
  3. Does Clement have a new baby? Other kids? If so, he's not leaving Chi. for Ana. if the money is the same [or very slightly less]. Clement is a cerebral type pitcher [prob. married a wife who's smarter than him--the only way to go, IMO]. His wife won't want to leave, with uprooting the kids and all. The few extra bucks won't be worth it to her, wanting to stay in Chi. And if she is "smarter" than him, she'll get the final say. If just wait for the press conference
  4. At least people complain less on this site than others. And people call them out to explain their complaints
  5. From todays Boston Herald: "Clement is believed to be weighing offers from the Sox, Anaheim Angels, Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks, with the Sox and Angels leading the way with similar three-year offers worth $24-25 million. Toronto's offer is believed to be three years for $22.5-23 million, while Arizona is considered a last resort. Anaheim is expected to go as high as $27 million, if necessary, but the Sox likely will not increase their offer." Sounds good. Match Ana's offer, Bos. won't, sox sign him.
  6. A pussy would have sat on the article. I'm sure there are plenty of writers who have the same types of notes and quotes. This isn't directed just at you, and maybe I'm missing the boat, but why the focus on one writer, and not the implications of the article's content? Which is that this trade could help the sox build a better clubhouse and team, and help the sox win and make the playoffs.
  7. Would AZ take Brian Anderson or Chris Young over ARow and have Everett as the "Starting OFer"? Prob. A-Row maybe isn't a superstar. But he's a productive, multi talented major leaguer playing a tough position. At only 27, giving A Row up now wouldn't be smart, even for RJ. Trading a minor leaguer over Rowand would be the way to go
  8. Vizcaino can face both LH and RH hitters in the 8th inning. So the drop off wouldn't be Marte to Cotts but Marte to Vizcaino. The lee trade filled a few needs [bullpen, speed at the top of the order, cash for other needs]. SP is another need I agree. A veteran UTL IF like Miguel Cairo would come cheap. C would be hard to fill anyway, and might be fine w/ Davis and Burke. RJ on the sox could help the sox get to the playoffs. It's not a lock. But once there, the sox would be in a better position to win it all [if some holes are filled by the trade deadline] w/ RJ rather than a Clement or a Perez, right?
  9. normally I'd agree with you. But in this market, where Millwood and Clement could get near $9 mill/ yr for 3, 4 yrs, listening to what AZ has to say about RJ and his $16 mill contract can't hurt.
  10. Everett was only hurt last yr [which prob. contributed to him being out of shape, as his legs/ groin were hurt]. He's been pretty consistent through the yrs. Hidalgo has been very inconsistent. Everett at $4 mill and Hidalgo at $6 mill are very similar. My point is Everett has value in this 2005 crazy market.
  11. These are the DBacks demands not what the Sox are offering. there's a big difference. Practically no one here is saying trade Rowand. But 3 players on the 2005 sox roster now-Garland, Marte and Everett--most are saying yes. An RJ deal like this w/o Rowand, wouldn't create that many new holes. [Only Marte, but the Sox have Cotts and Munoz in house, with Schoeneweis prob. to resign, either as the 5th SP or the pen if a deal went down] And the Carlos trade creating more holes than it filled?! the Sox have a LF to replace him, a bullpen arm, and cash to get a SP. It filled 2 more holes.
  12. Everett sitting on the bench for the Sox doesn't make sense this yr [so he could be traded to AZ, who could use him in RF]. Pk can DH and Gload play 1b until Frank comes back. I agree, Everett could start on many teams. He could even start in LF for the Cubs, as they're talking about trading for Jacque Jones. But Carl doesn't fit for the sox, w/ Dye and Pods on board. An OF of Pods, Arow and Dye >> than Carl, Pods and Dye. The sox can't replace Rowand's power, speed and defense this yr and shouldn't try
  13. That was before million dollar contracts were being handed out like credit card applications. $4 mill for [healthy] Everett is a reasonable contract. Yet the sox can't just have him sit on the bench for that cash
  14. I think we can all agree that if the sox want to win in 2005 Rowand would not be part of a trade. Everett would be decent for a team that wants to win now-like AZ with their new contracts. Look at the Cubs interest in Jacque Jones, and how quickly guys like Dye and Hidalgo were snatched up
  15. Seems like AZ wants Burnitz, would play CF my guess. AZ would need a RFer from Rotoworld The Diamondbacks will host free agent Jeromy Burnitz tomorrow. Burnitz's visit follows meetings with Matt Clement on Tuesday and Shawn Estes today. The Diamondbacks seem like the favorites to land Burnitz, who would likely bat fifth behind Troy Glaus. The Mariners also have a fair amount of interest. Dec. 15 - 2:21 pm et
  16. The D backs have to get rid of RJ with all their new contracts coming on board. the price for RJ goes down and could keep on going as team fill their SP holes. Their asking for Garcia/ Buehrle crap has at least stopped. This is actually getting semi reasonable if some tweaks are made
  17. Now if a deal was something along the lines of Garland, Everett, Marte, OFers Chris Young and Borchard [instead of Sweeney] and another player such as Diaz or, Adkins, it's doable. Only Marte would likely be in the Sox "3 yr board" then. Even if a top prospect was included [not Sweeney, he sounds like the real deal w/ power and avg], it would be only 2 guys on KW's "board". BTW- Ozzie didn't seem too impressed w/ Marte last yr, saying something to the effect that he'd like to meet the Marte of 2003
  18. He'd likely only agree to a trade if the trading team gives him an extension. In this case, RJ would be w/ the Sox for 2 yrs
  19. If his beat is writing about the sox, publishing dirty laundry about the sox isn't exactly a good career move. "Whistle blowing" in general doesn't help a lot of people. It usually happens after the fact, and for a variety of reasons [life threatening illness perhaps?]
  20. Beat me to the punch.
  21. If Lee hurt the dynamics of the Sox, and Cowley was pointing that out, why get upset about the truth, and attack the messenger? If the last quote is true, which prob. is as Cowley said other writers were there and could back up his account, this is good news that Lee is gone. It bodes well for the 2005 Sox and beyond that the right players are still around. BTW- I can see this article as a statement to the critics of this trade as well [not fans, but baseball writers and a few Chi. ones in particular]. Here's a guy who really covers the sox, not like Moronoti, who has inside info that this is a good trade. This could be a statement to the people in his profession-speak the truth and let the chips fall where they may.
  22. I'm surprised more writers hadn't talked about Carlos before, and that stuff like this didn't come out sooner. But to blame Cowley is a little much. Most likely he couldn't write a "hatchet job" while Lee was a member of the Sox. But if this is the truth, what exactly is the problem?
  23. Hawk will probably use something like "scooter"
  24. Makes the trade look like a downright steal. With a guy like Podsednik around, who is known to study video, do the little things, work hard because he doesn't have the natural ability as a guy like Lee, the atmosphere in the clubhouse should definitely improve. What message does a trade like this send to the players? That team play will get rewarded, and selfish play will get you a one-way ticket out of town. What I'm especially glad of is that mgmt [KW, probably because of Ozzie and Joey Cora] seem to have a good sense on the pulse of the clubhouse. this means they can add players who will be a good fit, not just talent wise but personality wise, "baseball makeup-wise". KW has seemed blind at times, or else he'd have corrected the problems sooner.
  25. And no everyone, I'm not Joe
