  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) Greg Walker will be recognized as one of the best hitting coaches in baseball. I personally do not hink this is too bold but for this forum I think it is bold. We have a winner.
  2. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) You cannot have an outfield with Matsui/Rios/Quentin. Rios is a good defender, but he's not that good... Hell, I don't think there's a center fielder alive that can cover that much ground. Yeah, that would be much worse than what we played with the last 2 years Quentin, (XXXXX), Dye.
  3. QUOTE (SockMe @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) I think Byrd could be a GOODS, cheap acquisition Why would he be cheap? Good O, Good D.
  4. Off topic, any word on Yadel Marti and Yasser Gomez, the most recent Cuban defectors?
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2008 -> 08:36 AM) The White Sox are 0-7 this season when they don't hit a homerun. Great stat.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) It surprises me to see how many people think Thome should be benched vs. lefties... maybe once in a while, but Thome is NOT a platoon player. Sure, he's better vs. righties, but he has one of the best eye's in the league, can draw walks, and at any moment, vs. any pitcher, he can go yard. And you don't bench especially when he is getting hot, as evident of his 4 or 5(?) homers and 10+ rbi's in the least week and a half of spring training games. But, he shouldn't bat 3rd vs. lefties. Swisher should bat 3rd with Thome 5th... Here are the FACTS re. Thome vs. LHP his last 3 full, healthy seasons. '04 .239/.324/.479 OPS .803 in 213 PA '06 .236/.354/.361 OPS .715 in 229 PA '07 .196/.314/.350 OPS .663 in 169 PA I'm a Thome fan, but the reality is he's PATHETIC against LHP and GETTING WORSE. And his playing against lefties hurts the team. The Sox have many alternatives to Thome this year.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 02:15 AM) I got no problem with Thome starting vs. CC, whether he can hit him or not, Thome still provides a pressence in the lineup... however, he should be batting 5th with Swisher in the 3 hole. A "presence" to whom? Maybe to the crowd. But this is 2008, the Indians and all of MLB know that Thome's line against LHP last year was .196/.314/.350. It's deteriorated steadily over the last few years.
  8. Ramirez needs to go to Charlotte for a minimum of 6 weeks. He needs to see "decent" pitchers and see how he hits, playing every day. He can also work on his 2B skills. He needs to play every day in a somewhat non-stress situation.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) "if he starts he had to beat out Richar and Ramirez." Just like Brian Anderson has to beat out Owens?
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) I don't think anyone will. However, if I were to guess Bourgeous would be #1, Getz #2, Carrassco #3. Agree about Jason Bourgeois. But we're paying Ozuna so it won't happen this year.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) why on earth would you give up 2 legitimate young position players for a 2Bman who is 30 and doesn't put the Sox over the top? Agree. Agree.
  12. QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) You know, I like Quentin as much as the next guy and think he's gonna be a good hitter, but some of you guys are talking as if Quentin has actually done something at the major-league level that we should be excited about. Yeah, I know he's had bad luck with injuries. But that doesn't change anything. We're not going off of much here. He was hurt all last year - hurt in spring training. The year before 2006 in 162 plate appearances with Arizona he had an OPS of .872. (which is lower than he ever had in the minors, so it's no wild aberration). That's something I'm excited about.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) As a testiment to how good John Rooney was, he made Farmer tolerable, especially compared to the last few years. Farmer will not be the big man in the booth anymore. He won't be able to talk down to Stone. Stone was actually a very good baseball player, unlike Farmer.
  14. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Ramirez can hit. But he had a Carlos Lee style braincramp at 2B. Anybdoy else think BA could hit .300 through the rest of camp and still not make the team? Are you kidding? Anderson could hit .350 / .400 / .450 in the spring and still not make the team. 1st sniff of interest from another team and Brian is OUTTA HERE.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) I don't know what the instant negatitve sentiment is for some, but to see a young guy bust his ass over the off season and make a committment to baseball excites me. Hell think how much different this franchise would have looked if Brian Anderson had done this two years ago. Nick Massett coming into camp ready to go gives us another electric arm as an option in the pen, or maybe even starting. Best comment re Masset since May of last year.
  16. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) Just curious, why would you have a career right fielder moving to 1st base with no clue of how to play that position while Swisher has tons of 1st base skills and experience. Dye was brutal in RF last year. His age has caught up to him.
  17. Do we know who his agent is?????
  18. QUOTE(ballyb11 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) Levine is a hard working, very knowledgeable, well connected reporter. Far and away the best in Chicago. Thanks. It's not sarcasm. I'd like to hear reasoning for the Levine dislike.
  19. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) If you believe him (BL), what does that tell you? Levine is a hard working, very knowledgeable, well connected reporter. Far and away the best in Chicago.
