**2017 Films Thread** (Beware of spoilers)
Has anyone seen Wonder yet? Coco was great, will reiterate the earlier post. Brilliant animation of the Land of the Dead, even though it went over the top a bit, the imagination expressed was great. Reminiscent of Japanese anime Spirited Away in many aspects. Like the classic Up, the family aspects had most audience members crying at the end, even in China, which has zero emotional connection with Mexican culture/traditions.

Can Illinois Survive?
Keep in mind, the rate of bricks and mortar store closures is twice last year’s rate, and expected to be 3x worse in 2018, even with a pretty strong economy. The nature of in-store shopping experiences around the world has been completely upended by Amazon, Alibaba, TenCent and JD.

What about Fox News? When does Trump turn on them, too? Shep Smith and Cavuto have both gone after him pretty hard in recent weeks.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
During a panel with Trump voters, one supporter said he likes that the President's cabinet is filled with millionaires and that he would take the President's word even if Jesus were to contradict it. http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2017/11...-sot-newday.cnn

President Donald Trump: The Thread
At least “half of Republicans say they would support postponing the 2020 presidential election until the country can fix [the voter fraud] problem.” Additionally, half of Republicans also believe that Trump did, in fact, win the popular vote over Clinton, despite official results proving otherwise. The poll also found that “larger fractions” of those surveyed believed “millions” of undocumented immigrants had voted and that “voter fraud happens somewhat or very often” (approximately 68 percent of those surveyed and 73 percent, respectively). source:Washington Post The scary thing (to me) is this group of potentially 30-45 million Americans and what they turn to when Trump is out of office....especially if a woman or minority becomes the next president.

The Sexual Assault problem
One can argue the Dems have even more responsibility to cleanse their party of sexual harassment if they’re legitimately claiming to be the party of women...and it’s already happening with many more women running (2018) than any year since 1992.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down. Here we go...plenty of time for this garbage, but not a single trade deal or major piece of legislation approved.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) Is Al Franken taking enough criticism for what he allegedly did? Maher was easy on him. SNL mentioned Trump being worse as well. Considering most of his ex-staffers and those who have been around him for 30-40 years have come out and defended him (even some comedians on opposite ends of the political spectrum)...it would, at a minimum, take another woman coming forward with a credible story to get him to resign. The Hidden History of Trump’s First Trip to Moscow. In 1987, a young real estate developer traveled to the Soviet Union. The KGB almost certainly made the trip happen. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...cow-trip-215842

Omar Vizquel
Makes a ton of sense... Future manager in waiting, and the team has been trending strongly in a Hispanic direction over the last 2-3 years of talent infusion/s. Already have Renteria, but he's likely the placeholder unless things change dramatically over the next season or so.

**2017 Films Thread** (Beware of spoilers)
Gary 10 hr ago (is that you, Greg??? Gary/Greg, four letter names starting with G?) I'm sure the movie is good. 20.00 to park. 18.00 per ticket for four people 60.00 for food Ill wait for the DVD release of Netflix to get it. Will reiterate what William Tell wrote. Better than expected, by expectations were pretty darned low coming in. Would put it ahead of Suicide Squad and the recent Batman/Superman and maybe even ahead of Avengers/Age of Ultron. I don't regret going. Overall, the cabling together of the competing visions of Snyder/Whedon turned out okay, but it will dismissed as yet another "misfire" by DC in the end. They desperately need another Wonder Woman movie before 2019...which isn't going to happen. And there was so much focus on Gal Gadot's lower half by the director's lens, I thought I was going to be charged with sexual harassment by the end. Not to mention Aquaman "hitting on" her when he was under the influence of the lasso of truth (too tired to write out the correct/full name of that thing) which would have been much funnier before the whole Weinstein thing. As some mentioned, these DC movies (Batman's expected now) feeling so dark and gloomy...not just the tone, but the actual screen/setting...it needs to shift somehow. Grittier and darker Bourne/Bond movies forced the genre in this direction, but it needs to come back to a happy medium. Finally, looking forward to the one big sleeper hit of the weekend, WONDER. Reminds me a lot of MASK.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
It would be nice if we had a president who actually did things because they were the RIGHT thing to do...not to kick off the latest cultural war. And not for public thanks/gratitude/appreciation. In this case, it's not even clear what exactly the right thing to do was here. One thinks that the 3 student athletes aren't going to receive the message unless they have their athletic scholarships revoked. Even that won't have much of an impact on the Ball family in terms of the serious of shoplifting, especially in a country where they could have ended up with harsh jail term of roughly 8-10 years. Athletes continue to receive the message that they're special and that SOMEONE will bail them out of nearly any situation if they can bring profit to universities and/or professional teams. Not saying Trump was wrong...just that there are tons of other Americans (see the story I linked above) that are suffering even more while jailed abroad. It's just that they are not famous or are lacking political connections to get them out.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
When has Trump gone out of his way to criticize anyone who wasn’t a minority for not thanking him? Didn’t the players acknowledge this during the past week, already? This was all about going after an equivalent loudmouth on social media. Trump's social media director, Dan Scavino, fired back at Ball on his personal Twitter account Saturday afternoon, saying Ball's son, LiAngelo, "would be in China for a long, long, long time" without the President's assistance. "Wannabe @Lakers coach, BIG MOUTH @Lavarbigballer knows if it weren't for President @realDonaldTrump, his son would be in China for a long, long, long time! #FACT," Scavino wrote. source:cnn I don’t even remember the name of Obama’s social media director.

Trump doesn’t care about someone who isn’t connected to a famous person.

QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Nov 17, 2017 -> 10:31 PM) Let’s be fair to coverage from both sides. https://www.google.com/amp/www.foxnews.com/...losers.amp.html http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/17/news/econo...bill/index.html I’ll ask once again, how does this benefit all Americans? That’s what you get when Mnuchin, Ross, Cohn and Tom Barrack are giving Trump most of his economic advice. Why Peter Navarro hasn’t resigned yet is beyond me.

The Sexual Assault problem
Numerous families, NFL teams, former friends (online and off) and neighbors have been split...forced to choose one political side or the other, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise than SoxTalk also reflects that same fraying of the social fabric. I’m honestly not sure we can say with certainty that we are still more alike than different. And country always comes before allegiance over a sports team. That’s just the way it goes. Surely the same debates will be happening around the Thanksging table, perhaps even more heated this year (for those not already worn out trying to “convert” the other side.)

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 17, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) I'm there with ya raBBit....I just choose not to engage in these type discussions on any of the boards I'm on because it usually ends up with "mob posse" D's whining...and finger pointing...and basically becoming unhinged. Tell ya what...it's basically the reason I re-registered back in 2010. I was and voted D all my life...but pretty much got sick of the hypocritical bulls*** that I saw from the left...so I bolted. Honestly...it's like a f******* mob posse mentality. For everyone like you who bolted from the party or voted Trump in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania....there are 2-3 who are going back in the other direction, repelled by everything they’ve witnessed in the last ten months. You can’t just selectively block out the association with Steve Bannon and the alt-right. The Republican Party is splitting right down the middle, just like the Democrats. But the Dems (especially women) are more motivated to stop Trumpism before they can even consider healing the rifts in the party. The big difference is that on issues like health care or tax cuts (take your stand on the side of those earning $500k or more, see http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/17/news/econo...ill/index.html) which provide the greatest good for the greatest number of Americans, you’re on the wrong side. And that’s not even considering the anti-women, anti-minorities, anti-immigrant side of the GOP at the moment...rearing its ugly head in Charlottesville or over Roy Moore. And that’s not even considering the stance of putting your head in the sand while we continue to damage the environment (see the most recent oil pipeline spill)...what’s the worst thing that could happen if we take proactive steps right now instead of waiting until it’s too late and the planet has been damaged beyond repair? If Trump had actually done anything to benefit the middle class since coming into office, you’d at least have an argument. If the best that you can come up with is the stock market continuing to rise, there’s really going to be hell to pay when the bubble pops and even the upper middle class and rich start to turn on Trump after all the tax cut bills have withered on the vine.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 17, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) To get this unfortunate thread back on track from the derailment, there looks to be another Senator who could on the chopping board next. Former intern of Senator Blumenthal tells her sexual assault story, then sets her account to private shortly after. I'd like to see something more official but worth monitoring. https://twitter.com/SSludgeworth/status/931574521089445888 Surprise, surprise. Twitter User With Fake IDs (and fake pictures) Spreads Blumenthal Assault Charge https://amp.thedailybeast.com/a-twitter-acc...tes-ran-with-it And yet 35% of the American people will still believe it....even if it’s clearly fake news with zero corroboration by a legit news network. Any 13 year old could pull off a stunt like that and accuse a politician, celebrity or neighbor/classmate of sexual assault. Account suspended/shut down turns to account turned to private in order to protect herself from vicious left wing attacks. In fact, a quick search shows that the account ripped off bio photos of women in Texas and London and misspelled the name of the accuser’s Connecticut hometown. The account was quickly shut down once the accusation went viral on rightwing media, with the user then emerging to claim she’d been hacked. After that, the account was suspended. A reverse Google Image search of that photo revealed that it was actually a different Linda Flores—a Linda Flores Olson who served as the former Executive Director of the Houston Hispanic Forum. When reached by The Daily Beast, a spokesperson for the Houston Hispanic Forum told The Daily Beast that Olson is no longer working for the nonprofit, but said she had nothing to do with the Twitter account. “She's aware of the tweet. That is a fake account,” the spokesperson told The Daily Beast. Hours later, the picture on the Linda Flores account had been changed to a picture of another woman who was not, it seems, actually Linda Flores. A reverse Google Image search revealed that woman pictured was actually Sarah Brook, an HR specialist in the U.K. whose Twitter and LinkedIn accounts predated the creation of “Flores’” account by several years.

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump The Al Frankenstien picture is really bad, speaks a thousand words. Where do his hands go in pictures 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 while she sleeps? ..... 11:06 AM - Nov 17, 2017 Surely he was doing even worse in front of tons of people on a USO plane/tour... If the Democrats REALLY wanted to sabotage the GOP over the Moore situation, they would have waited UNTIL AFTER he was elected...putting them in the position of being stuck with him (and tarnishing whatever's left of the "brand") or having to expel him from the Senate (which hasn't happened for 155+ years, at the beginning of the Civil War, see below) or . Expelled for supporting Confederate rebellion in 1862, three Senators from Indiana/Missouri. Expelled in 1861, John C. Breckinridge, a Kentucky Senator, later a general for the Army of the Confederate States who served mostly in the Western Theatre. John Ensign (NV) and Bob Packwood (OR) the two most recent examples where they resigned before being expelled...can probably add Menendez to that list.

Justice League has been getting panned. Sitting around 40 at rottentomatoes. Will they go away from Snyder/Whedon and give Sally Jenkins (Wonder Woman) a shot to make the next one?
