  1. Davis Martin, but minus the stuff...close to a Thorpe fb. Twenty five years ago, Glavine or Maddux would have been elated with 92-93, especially Glavine. Yes, coming back from tjs, but was never a fireballer to begin with.
  2. He's also been hit by what, 15 pitches? That has a cumulative effect, just like catches getting beaten up behind the plate over the course of a season.
  3. The only reason they're willing to start adding multi year contract guys in FA is the belief they will need to hit a payroll salary floor number in the next 12-24 months... All that said, it's suddenly becoming much more interesting now with three key positional starters out for CLE. They're just not going to be able to run away from anyone, and Kwan has had one of his worst seasons so far as well.
  4. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/mlb-reportedly-proposes-drastic-overhaul-to-draft-which-would-exclude-high-school-players-and-cut-rounds-from-event-193522373.html Putting another 50% of costs/development responsibilities on the NCAA side of the equation. Won't stand up in courts. Would result in lots of future stars going other routes like basketball and football with so much more NIL $$$ available in those areas. It's not like Japan/Korea and Latin America can/could offset thc significant loss of baseball talent this would result in...all in the name of preventing young stars from getting to FA in their mid to late 20s instead of early 30s.

  6. All the scouts keep saying Swanson/Brandon Crawford numbers ... around 15-20 homers per season. Since when are catchers on the same developmental timelines and finished products at age 20 as SS's when they always take a couple of years longer? Why are posters acting like Lackey sat on the bench all last season when he had a 900+ ops? Citing Vargas, Peters, Montgomery's, Jacob Gonzalez (jury still out), Bonemer (big challenge now in AA)...does that mean they now have a magic formula to fix Wolkow and Zavala, too? The test of any organization is at least occasionally getting results out of non million dollar bonus guys from the amateur draft and especially international. To say they've fixed hitting is the equivalent of saying they've equally screwed up pitching...the truth is not as bleak for pitching nor as rosy or optimistic for hitting prospects as it may seem today.
  7. Not bad for Lackey's 2025. Still ascending vs. plateaued/mixed out???
  8. You wanted to call everyone up lol. This is the consequence, along with widespread injuries.
  9. Nothing will beat first half 2006 offense. 2008 with Quentin until he hurt himself....Alexei GSs. 2010/12 2019-21 was fun as well. can't say this is a great offense due to OF catcher Benintendi Acuna...especially without Teel/Mune Colson still barely over 220 ba but effective overall.
  10. Hasn't changed since beginning of season except Martin and Burke overperforming, especially Davis until recently. And now their depth is pretty much shot to hell...
  11. "The only quality players he's acquired came from trading a top 3 pitcher in the game below his peak value (IMO), and someone he picked up in a Rule 5 draft." Miguel Vargas has a legit case for best AL third basemen. Peters was a huge bargain for his current production level. Certainly a high quality teammate. The White Sox wouldn't have gotten Meidroth if they asked for Mayer...would have been Teel OR Braden AND Meyer AND Gonzalez. Anthony was never going to be included.
  12. Venable getting killed with over abundance of LHRers against right handed Yankees hitters.
  13. Rodon isn’t doing much better. Will only go five at this pace. They’re in the game at least tonight.
  14. At least the Guardians have to deal with the Brewers…
  15. What reason would they have to believe Gonzalez is any better than Stott at second? Certainly not from a defensive standpoint. Veteran teams hardly ever break in rookies at key positions unless there’s an overwhelming reason to make a change.
  16. 2000, 2004 minus Loiaza's near Cy Young in 03
  17. Philly would never make that trade....Gonzalez would need to put up an 800+ ops for June/July. They're not going to replace Turner any time soon. Maybe 2B...but not at the cost of Painter.
  18. Feels like another version of Rauch all over again...
  19. “We had teams all the way to about No. 20 that told us if Konner made it to them, they were going to take him and we already knew what dollar amount that they were willing to go above their slot,” Kevin says. “So, we weren’t stressed about it a whole lot. We did have to convince Konnor that turning down the fourth, fifth or sixth pick in the draft was not a bad thing. It just came down to fit and where we felt he could thrive. We kind of slow played it and held out a little bit until Pittsburgh came along.” The Griffins waited through eight picks. Kevin says two of the eight teams called with offers “to go like $2 million under slot.” Kevin told them, “Don’t pick him. He’ll go to LSU if you do.” Four of the first eight teams signed players for less than slot money: the Guardians at No. 1 (Travis Bazzana), the Reds at No. 2 (Chase Burns), the Athletics at No. 4 (Nick Kurtz) and the Angels at No. 8 (Christian Moore). www.si.com
  20. Which teams make sense though? Maybe the Royals with Caglianone. Guardians at #1 to use savings elsewhere? Cardinals were always focused on Wetherholt.
  21. Already turning on them after one disappointing game? When they've done this without Murakami and Teel? Cole isn't chopped liver. There were always going to be struggles with Braden and Gonzalez.
  22. SI wrote a full feature article. It's in the Griffin thread. Two un-named teams before pick 9 were strongly discouraged from taking him. One likely was the Angels, who selected Christian Moore instead.
  23. Chicago White Sox Chicago's lone representative last season was right-hander Shane Smith, a Rule 5 pick who became a reliable rotation option. Smith is a great story, but his selection was reflective of the complete lack of other compelling options to choose from. How times have changed. This season's upstart White Sox roster boasts several All-Star candidates, all of whom would be first-timers: rookie sensation Munetaka Murakami, breakout bat Miguel Vargas and emergent ace Davis Martin would be worthy inclusions. Martin all the way up to 3.31...hopefully he still holds onto All Star nod.
  24. It's not like anybody expected second lowest ERA in the AL to Schittler entering the game...or three early walks tonight. Only 18 games at third and no time at first base prior to this season...
