I want Furcal, Blake, and a Starter. That is all. Would love to get rid of one of the Thome, Konerko, Dye mess, but Dye is the one that I would really hate to see go so and he is the most likely.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:32 PM) I know this is a hell of a time for a first post, but I’m inclined to agree with most of the sentiments expressed above. It truly is surreal to have so much invested in a team, and when they lose to feel oddly... content. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, because over the course of the year this organizations future has grown from mundane to surprisingly bright. The future is solid with Danks, Floyd, Quentin, and The Missile, and even Beckham, Danks P.2, Allen, and Poreda loom just on the horizon. Also, Kenny Williams has really shown me something this year. Surprising to me, as I was a heavy proponent of his firing at the beginning of the year, but Kenny has proved himself a Shark. He's not afraid to wheel, and deal, and could give a damn what the public thinks of him. This year to an almost unprecedented sense we have seen the fruits of his labor and they are enviable. Now for next year there are sill some parts to be addressed, but I have confidence that they will be filled to satisfaction. So, let’s sum it up. A 17 game improvement, a new younger core, a revitalized GM, and a reenergized fan base. Plus some memories that will last forever. I mean, really, how could we be disappointed? Good post. Welcome to Soxtalk.

Good for the Rays. I'll be cheering for them. Anyone but the Red Sox really.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) it doesn't look too hot, and OC would probably be the best option, unless you're a Rafeal Furcal fan. Either that or we have a huge middle infield hole next year. I'd take Furcal in a heartbeat if the price is right. Plus the draft pick from OC.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) I would not be opposed to giving him the $4.5 mill he got this year too. He's just that valuable to the Sox. You take him for what he is - a bad starting player, a great defender, a poor contact man, a generally smart ballplayer, and a guy who hits for power. Not to mention, It just seems that everyone on the team loves him. I have never had a problem with Uribe. He is so valuable as the backup infielder.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) I completely agree. Winning 89 games and the division after a 72-90 season is a significant accomplishment. And it's kind of hard to win a WS (or even a pennant) when your would-be League MVP, starting 3B, and fourth-best (playoff) pitcher all go down with season-ending injuries. I'm proud of what they accomplished this year and my only regret is that I won't be able to watch/listen to another Sox game until March. I'm really excited about the way that Quentin, Alexei, Danks, and Floyd developed this year and the fact that these are the type of guys that Kenny can build another championship around. Back in May, I thought that this year was our "last hurrah", but I don't feel that way at all now. I'm really excited about 2009. Great post.

I know I am not alone in this weird and calm happiness. Still surprises me to see everyone feeling the same way right now.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:43 PM) I really hope Uribe is back next year. I just want nothing to do with him as a starter going into the season. He's a fantastic utility player. agreed.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) Why is OC gettinng singled out? because he has been a complete tool all season.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) He played quite a bit of CF in Cuba as I recall Cubano posting. He was only moved to 2B when the hole opened up there and because he could play it. He's athletic enough that he would make the transition just fine. I'm not saying that he would remind me of Jose out there. That was just funny in my mind. However, I think he is best suited for the infield. Specifically 2B. That throw he made in CF about 4 months ago still was fantastic.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) Honestly, how bad is Alexei at CF? The only downside I can think of is we'd be lacking in two infield spots I really don't think I'd want to watch that experiment. This actually just brought flashbacks of Jose Valentin in CF.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) Dye at DH I agree with, but I think CQ's natural position is RF, move swish permanently to left Honestly, how bad is Alexei at CF? The only downside I can think of is we'd be lacking in two infield spots yeah, swish and TCQ, i don't care which corner outfield they are at.

Worst "fundamentally sound" hitter ever.

I would like OC (obviously) and Thome gone. Uribe back to being the fill in Infielder. Get a decent 3B(Blake perhaps), SS, and a centerfielder. Move Swish to right, Dye at DH. Oh and I'd like to add a starter. Keep Javy in the number 5 slot.
-
My tribute to OC is a big f*** YOU. Piece of s***. Can't wait to see him be a dick with another team.
-
The offseason should be fun. What a ride we had this year. Danks, Floyd, TCQ, Alexei, all coming into their own and looking like young stars. Alexei's Slam against Detroit, The one game playoff, so many other great memories. Thank you White Sox. I'll miss them until opening day '09.

It took you about 5 seconds after the game to get this up.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) I think I was more frustrated when the Sox lost meaningless games in July than I am now. Me too. This doesn't hurt so bad.
-
Thanks for all the fun.

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) Is there any chance Contreras could be back healthy next year? It seems like no one talks about him anymore. No.
-
One more. I'd love a Griffey homer.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Gonna get blasted for this, but we overachieved in my eyes and lost to a better team in the playoffs. No regrets. I'll cry myself to sleep tonight than live on tomorrow. The rays are clearly the better team. I'm happy with the performance this year. Just wish White Sox baseball wasn't about to be over for another 5 months.

Last half inning of Sox baseball in 08

QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) I'd just like to say that I'm proud of our fans. They've been into the entire game. Cheers to that. Best in the game.

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) So are we going to be rooting for TB in the ALCS? Save Balfour and the cowbells, I don't really have a problem with them, and I'd vomit violently if Boston is in the World Series again. I'll be rooting for them the rest of the way.
