QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) If I were Hahn and it went that far, I would put my figure around $9.5 million. OC would counter around $11, you're right. Then it would be a battle to assail his pedestrian OPS and OBP numbers. They would counter with the fact that he was being asked to bat out of his natural 2 spot and that he was 2nd in the GG voting for SS. Let's just hope the Dodgers give him at least $20 million over 2 years and he passes. There's one more factor here, his pretty large ego. If his archenemy Renteria can be banished out of DET and still get an average of $9.25 million for two seasons, Cabrera will want to one-up him to show he's still the best/most valuable Colombian SS. I'm not too familiar with how arbitration works, but would an arbitor really be naive enough think that the GG voting has any accuracy toward a player's defensive skills? I would hope not, but yeah I'm sure you're right Caulfield that Lozano would try to claim that means anything.

semi true. When you can get to the point where you block out the feeling of how awful it is you can enjoy the change in climate. The person below me an outy ([opposed to an inny] belly botton)

Considering he's a type A free agent, I'd prefer that we get someone else's picks. Probably because of the excitement of mystery in early draft picks.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) 11:00pm CT Sunday night. Thank you sir. Yeah Cabrera's really not that bad. And if he plays out of the 2 hole he might seem like a lot different player than last year. Either way I'm happy.

So is the deadline for a player to accept 12:00AM Monday morning?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Arbitration wouldn't be settled until several months from now when the case goes before an arbitrator, unless the team and Cabrera came to an agreement in advance. The lowest the team could offer would be a 20% pay cut compared to last year, and if they offered that it's likely they'd lose their case if it came before an arbitrator unless Cabrera's request was even more outrageous (if it reaches an arbitrator, the guy can only choose 1 number or the other, not anything in between). Is that the official MLB arbitration rule? No lower than 80% of last year's salary? Also, in arbitration, you're saying the arbitor does not make up a number, he chooses between what the club offers and what the player demands?

QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) I'm not going to sleep until the clock strikes midnight Sunday night. 2 questions, 1) Is that the deadline for arbitration to be accepted? (12:00AM Monday morning?) 2) Does OC know yet how much the arbitration offer is for? Or does that not get determined until after he accepts it?

False, although I guess if you look close enough you can find any nose to be at least a little crooked. The person below me is a straight male, but as worn/owned a pair of jeans with a button down fly (no zipper).
-
False. I know nothing about him other than he's been mayor for quite a while. The person below me could care less about politics and did not vote for the recent election despite being of voting age.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Why don't we just do a three-man booth with DJ, Hawk, and Stone? Hawk probably isn't gonna be around much longer (I'm not saying he's gonna die soon, but he's close to retirement, IMO), and it'd be nice to have his replacement still in the booth and not miss a beat. I feel skeptical that Hawk will ever retire. I think he'll announce until either, 1) He dies (sorry Hawk, every bird's gotta land some day) 2) He is eventually fired for threatening Jay Marriotti's life over the air (Hopefully no longer an issue) 3) Carl Yastrzemski comes and sweeps Hawk off his feet and takes him away to a tropical paradise forever in delirium.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) OK, here is the categorized NorthSideSox72 prospect list for this offseason. Two notes... 1. The following players have spent too much time in the majors, so I don't really consider them prospects anymore: Jerry Owens, Ehren Wassermann, Mike MacDougal, Boone Logan, Brian Anderson 2. The rankings are balance between ceiling and likelihood of reaching major league value. SP Aaron Poreda Clayton Richard Justin Cassel Lucas Harrell Charlie Shirek Leroy Hunt Dexter Carter Dan Hudson Jack Egbert Lance Broadway Anthony Carter John Ely Levi Maxwell Gregory Infante Matt Zaleski Nevin Griffith RP Kanekoa Teixera Adam Russell Jon Link Henry Mabee Brian Omogrosso Kevin Asselin Ryan Strauss Steven Upchurch Stephen Sauer Ryan O’Neill Jon Link Jon Lujan Brent DeFoor Justin Kuehn Po-Yu Lin 1B/DH Brandon Allen Jorge Castillo SS/2B Gordon Beckham Chris Getz Sergio Miranda Tyler Kuhn Eduardo Escobar Victor Mercedes Greg Paiml Juan Silverio 3B Josh Fields CJ Retherford Brent Morel Logan Johnson OF John Shelby Jordan Danks Jose Martinez David Cook Justin Bourgoeis* (utility, also IF) Kent Gerst Johny Celis Steven Gartrell Jordan Kendall Jim Gallagher C Cole Armstrong Kevin Dubler Matt Innouye Donny Lucy (this is highly dependent on his injury recovery - could be anywhere from #1 to #5 or not even on this list) Francisco Hernandez You probably mean Jason Bourgeois, he's actually gone now. Part of the Brewers organization. I always thought he deserved a shot, but apparently Andy Gonzalez & Dweezy's power outshined him.... in '07 and '08.

Speculation: Is this a precursor to a Peavy Deal?
Marky Mark replied to Fotop's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) Also, do you think KW could maybe try to go after Khalil Greene as well if he was chasing Peavy? According to Rotoworld, Khalil is on the verge of getting traded to an undlisclosed team. Probably us, we could use more infielders. Not really. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) Is there anybody else who doesnt want Jake Peavy? Like at all? I definitely do not want Peavy. Is he a good pitcher? Yes. Is he an elite pitcher? No. Peavy stats at Petco: ERA= 2.66 WHIP=1.07 Peavy stats in away games: ERA=3.80 WHIP=1.30 Hmmm..... Lets try this, Peavy career vs. AL: 44ER in 121 IP = 3.27 ERA Not too bad, but then look closer to see that he's had 40.2 IP against Seattle (A third of his AL games) Peavy vs (AL - SEA)= 35 ER in 80.1 IP = 3.92 ERA My point is, taking Peavy out of his stadium raises his ERA. Then taking Peavy out of his league raises his ERA even more. So do I want us to pay for him in prospects and salary like he's an elite pitcher? Nope, because he's a good pitcher, not an elite one. Unfortunately the Padres should be smart enough to sell him as if his numbers will remain the same in any park in any league. He is simply not worth the cost. I'd much rather go for a lesser pitcher that would be more cost effective in terms of salary and prospects. Or, I'd much rather just hold onto the 'spects, hold onto the money and just wait for the right opportunity to come along. That opportunity is just not this one. NO PEAVY! -
Does anyone know anything about Santos other than the fact that he pitched well in the GCL for the braves? I have no idea what his age is, left or right? Velocity? Secondary?
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) That is far from certain. Someone his age, even if he is a couple years older can not be judged based on 1 season of rookie ball. And in case you missed it, there were several other teams after him as well. I wont pass judgment on him being "a bum" until he gets a little more of a chance. I believe our former in-house Sox rookie ball scout said Siliverio was actually a lot older than 16 when we signed him.

When is the deadline for accepting/rejecting arbitration?
-
TRUE! Both poo and pee thank you very much. The person below me is old enough to know which Sox player pulled his pants down in the middle of a game.

Anybody else feel a trade for Gio Gonzalez coming?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) Yeah, I love the talent the team has now because it's so interchangeable. Viciedo could play OF, 3B, and probably 1B. Fields can play 3B/1B and maybe some OF. Lillibridge could play SS/2B/CF, as can Alexei. Carlos can play LF/RF. You forgot to say Fields can play 3B/1B/LF!
-
Why would we trade Dye and then sign Dunn? Unless we were doing it for the spects, that's pretty much a similar player.
-
VERY TRUE. The person below me loved Jose Valentine's 'stache. But hated Billy Koch's pubic hair landing strip-esk soul patch.
-
How is Escobar defensively? How's his arm?
-
False. The person below me thinks that Samuel L Jackson is a better actor than William Shatner.
-
What happened to him? I was just looking through the Cube and saw that he was the player to be named later in the Carlos Lee deal in '05. It looks like he just stopped playing all of a sudden. Did he get injured or just quit? Anybody remember?
