  1. Has anyone been following him this year? His power numbers are unbelievable. 39 HR and 104 RBIs this year. Obviously everyone is much happier with Quentin since he's producing big now, but wow, Carter may become one of the more highly touted 'spects in baseball if he can continue this. When Bureau was on here he was saying that Carter would be very comparible to Ryan Howard in 4-5 years (although Bureau also said Quentin would peak at a 20HR 75 RBI kind of guy). Between losing DLS, Gio, Sweeney, and Carter this year it appears that the only with pretty big success was Vernon (although at a low level). Interesting, I hope he continues to produce and becomes a star hitter someday.
  2. If the national league ever has a shot to pull off a world series win against an American league team it would be here against the rays due to the Rays' youth and inexperience possibly leading to a late choke. Most likely possibility? Rays in 4. American league>National [AAAA] league
  3. Here's a real slugger we could use as a backup!
  4. I think for some players, yes, they would trade him. But for players like Fields who got first round bonus money, you have every right to dick him around because you paid a lot for him to begin with.
  5. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) if contreras were to retire would the sox still have to pay him what hes owed in 09? No, I don't believe so. But I find it very hard to believe he'd retire when he could get paid millions for trying to get healthy and merely trying to play again. Not many players give up that easily when that much money is riding on their career decisions.
  6. I like how people seem to think Vazquez is a horrible pitcher just because the recent past seems clearer than one's overall history. He's not a 1 or 2. But he's a great 4 guy and can be much much better than that when he's on. Vazquez>Contreras any day of the week.
  7. Who here would give up Poreda and Fields for Wood? That's a fairly hefty price to pay, but Wood does have the ability to be much better than both of them if he can get thing figured out in the MLB.
  8. Hey, I was thinking about starting up an Etrade account, but thought I'd ask around first. If anyone here has one, how's your experience been? The E-Trade website says that it costs 12.99 a trade (for my investing demographic) and 40 dollars a quarter as an account service fee. Are there any other fees for stocks that they charge? There was a part about "margin rates", anybody able to explain what that is? Additionally, can anyone tell me what the taxation rates are for stock profits? Or perhaps direct me with a linkaroo? Any help is appreciated on this one. Thanks.
  9. I've heard Juan Uribe is a frequent shopper at Moo & Oink
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 04:25 PM) So whats next years big pickup. What over the hill aging superstar are we picking up for the stretch run. We are basically the reverse twins. They pick up their old men for the beginning of the season, and shed them. We pick them up for the stretch run. Both strategies are bad. Maybe we can sign Tino Martinez out of retirement
  11. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) yes, one of my favorite sports games for SNES. The Expos were my team and they were the truth. The Mariners were unbelievable in that game, especially with the JR. auto homerun code
  12. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) The one that came with the bat? There was one that came with a bat? Sweet. No I didn't have one with a bat.
  13. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) griff hit one against the twins or two? 2
  14. Good eye, Hey did anybody in here used to own Ken Griffey Jr.'s Major League Baseball for SNES?
  15. I didn't realize 87 MPH 4 seamers down the middle were that tough to hit JD
  16. I hope Bobby is going to be ready next inning with a mindset to dominate, not hope to dominate.
  17. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) you mean a 4-6-3, haha. Oh yeah, a 4-5-3 would have been astonishing in that scenario
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) Dye's going to have his work cut out for him not hitting into a 5-4-3 DP here. Make it a 4-5-3
