  1. Ahhhh you cant blame the catcher in that situation. He did what he was suppose to do. that was a great hustle play byt the catcher..wonder if sandy would do the same???
  2. here is my "dissenting" POV of how this war is going from what you say.. we have in 12 days done the following 1. secured the port at umm qasr before saddam could blowup the oil rig in the gulf like he did in 91..we are still cleaning up from that eviromental disaster..imagine if saddam did it again 2. securing that port and clearing mines in the gulf have led to humantiarian aide starting to come into the port at umm qasr...feeding iraqis in the south who were starving...thats huge to winning over the iraqis 3. securing the two air fields H2 and H3 in the west..the 2nd one being the size of heathrow airport in london 4. securing the scud launching sites in the west..this was huge because it has kept saddam from launching scuds into israel and jordan...the last thing we need is getting israel wanting in on this 5. the southern oil fields..in the gulf war saddam set fire to 300 or so oil wells in kuwait..there was fear he would set fire to up to 500 oil wells in the south..we secured the southern oil fields with only 9 of them being set ablaze..last count 6 have been extinguished...huge success 6. the brits are moving in on securing basra...basra is the 2nd largest city in iraq..2 million people...thats like securing a city the size of metropolitian portland oregon....in 12 days..this is also an area where saddam sent quite a few fadeyeen terrorists..that alot of work going door to door... 7. the 3rd id and the marines have moved over 250 miles towards baghdad... 8. intel reports we have decimated both the medina and baghdad divisions of the republican gaurd....we have our coalition deaths at around 50 plus whatever happened today...we cant get a real report because iraq wont give out the right numbers but DOD last friday was saying we have killed 25000 to 35000 iraqi troops...iraq has captured 7 POW's...we have over 5000 iraqi POW...if those kill and POW ratios are anywhere near close to the truth how can anyone say this hasnt been a success so far??? 9. in the north the past 6 months special forces have been working with the kurds and have built an army 70k to 90k strong that can move in from the north to help secure baghdad..we also dropped in 1000 troops 72 airborne out of aviano italy to help out..and i believe the 101st is up north now too..we have secured some air fields up there and are in the process of securing the northern oil fields 10. the bombing of baghdad...ther eis still no real proof if saddam survived the first night of bombing...if he did we obviously got a message to him that if he sticks his head out in public we will blow it off ... 10 huge successes so far...have things gone wrong??..yeah they have...things always go wrong in war...im not gonna harp on them because every news agency in the world is doing that..and thats all they are doing...they dont focus on the positives...war correspondents never do...the news always looks for the negative..its their nature...another positive..peter arnett got fired..lol how long is this war gonna take??...i dont think very long...but we should be in no hurry to finish it because when you hurry you make mistakes..remember we started this war before we had all the troops in place and were really ready to go...we had to go early to complete our objectives of saving the oil fields and secured western scud sites...it was a brilliant move by tommy franks...now we can just wait for the 4th id to get in country with all their equipment and have them shore up the supply lines...that also gives the units in the north time to move south and open up a northern front...in the meantime we can keep bombing baghdad and the republican gaurds to soften them up before we start the final push to baghdad...take a two week break with the ground troops if thats what it takes..wait till everything is as perfect as it could be before going into baghdad.. i know this hasnt gone exactly to plan , the fighting has been more fierce than most expected from the iraqis..i admit i thought we would have alot more than 5000 POW's by now and i didnt expect this kind of resistence...but has there ever been a war go exactly to plan??..remember in the gulf we wernt going for a regime change..only to expell iraq from kuwait...took over 50 days..and ground troops didnt go in until after we bombed the iraqis for 38 days..we have adapted very well to some unexpected situations...says alot about the training in our military 12 days..id say this war , when you look at the big picture..especially the oil fields and the israeli situation, is well ahead of schedule oh yeah..forgot to add...we control the skies..if any iraqi plane flies..it dies side note..did you know over on the other site there is another alarmist that is actually wondering when the US will start using nukes to finsh off iraq because the iraqi are , in his mind , kicking our ass???...and there are people who are actually taking him seriously...its sad how the press shapes your little lefty minds..j/k call it politics , call it perspective , call it lack of objectivity , call it whatever you want...but we are not watching the same war...one of us is 100% wrong..guess time will tell who was right
  3. apu....i didthat to prove a point that you didnt get or wont acknowledge...ill give you the benefit of the doubt and say your friend actually went to this rally....what did he call it ??...."the kill um all rally"..then his entire letter is about how everyone there is stupid, they dont have a clue what the situation is all about..he has to go around and "enlighten" all the war mongers...i love the part about the "ASU republicans" who didnt even know about the kurds or the different ethnic groups in iraq (just a reminder for your friends next "enlightenment" pow - wow..dont forget to mention the assyrian (sp) christians who still speak in the tongue of jesus christ , aramaic (again sorry for my poor spelling))..every one is calling him a hippie pinko commie ??...america , love it or leave it??...this is right out of the 60 vietnam era...this is a pre-concieved notion your friend has...which is what leads me to believe this is a crock..ive seen one pro war rally out here in the burbs ( it was a small one) and have checked the signs on tv for the few the networks have shown...most of the signs are about either tieing 911 to saddam...supporting the president , supporting the troops, or about freeing iraq...while im sure there are some negative ones they are no where near the majority... there was nothing objective about what he said... whats to discuss???..i countered every paragraph in my first reply with the same biased arguement that could be made on the other side when you have an informed person one side and someone w/o a clue on the other..this is like james carville vrs turcker carlson on CNN...where carvile spends 27 minutes on an anti -bush rant and carlson spends 3 minutes with snappy retorts like "you really believe that james"... remember where i put in where the blonde girl just sighed and walked away because she had no clue when asked who do you remove saddam peacefully when it hasnt worked for 12 years..that actually happened..saw it on an interview on WGN at one of the chicago peace rallies..the reporter asked her that question and let out this big sigh and was silent for about 5 seconds...then left w/o saying a word... 1441..disarm "immediately" or face severe consequences...signed on by every security counsel member 15-0...not that the US needs that proof because the US doesnt let the UN security counsel make its foriegn policy but for people like you who think we have to have UN backing to go to war...thanks to 1441 we already have just that
  4. Ahhhhh, C'mon Baggs! I was starting to like ya! sorry heather..but cmon..he didnt even know it was strike three in one at bat today...he's you husband...WAKE HIM UP !!!!
  5. Maybe I'm not aware of what I'm doing. Maybe I'm ? I don't care if someone has a different opinion than me -- if I did, I would leave this board because it seems that most people disagree with me. Or maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. But seriously, I only question someone's opinion when it's clearly absurd (like earlier when someone suggested Frank be taken out of the game when he was on base 3 times and the rest of the players today only managed to get on 2 times -- that's really what got this entire ball rolling). I'll allow people to have their own opinions as long as everyone else gives me the same courtesy. i agree that comment about frank had me scratching my head....i think people were really frustrated with how this game was lost...not so much the loss itself..and that led to some spur of the moment type comments that you look at the next day and say WTH was i thinking???
  6. Durham wasn't leadoff material either Baggs. yeah but he could score 100-120 runs in this offense....he still stole 30 bases a season...jimenez has 8 in over 700 ML at bats....and he's a free swinger like durham but doesnt have the power ray had...ray still carried an obp of 360 while he was here..can jimenez do that???...i dont think he can..id feel so much better with this team if ray was still here..but he is not, so let get miles here
  7. Well, in all fairness to Leifer, he really shouldn't have been on the Sox last season. We almost never played him, and when we did play him, I'm sure he was pressing to show the team what they were missing out on. That's tough for any player, let alone a young player. I think Jeff would put up pretty good numbers given 400 or 500 AB's in a season. He clearly wasn't going to get that with the Sox, and IMO he handled it very poorly. If he had said the cliche "I'm just here to help this team win whenever I get a chance", he might have got more PT last season -- particularly when Frank was struggling and complaining. He didn't do that, and I think both he and the Sox are better off with him off this squad. liefer will probably hit 260 with quite a few homers and extra base hit...80 - 90 rbi...i always had faith in him...i think if he wouldnt have got hurt in ST in '00 he would have had his chance to play 1t base for us everyday and konerko could have ended up like liefer its funny what one injury can do to a career...both liefer's and konerko's
  8. More name calling? I wish some of you would move on and talk about baseball and keep it non-personal. Is that possible? sorry dude but you jumped on everyone that had a different opinion then you did...and you did it in a way that made it seem like you thought you were superior to anyone that disagreed with you...so people took it as you being agressive and went on the offensive.. i shouldnt have called you a punk ass b****....thats usually not my style..for that i apoligize
  9. liefer had 4 rbi today....probably more than he had all of last year
  10. clee..because he is brain dead jimenez...becaue aaron milesbeat him out and should be the 2nd baseman...and jimenez came with alot of baggage and from what ive seen im not sure he is lead off material...we are gonna really miss durham
  11. what frustrated me was not that we lost...its how we lost...same ol s***...losing to a no name pitcher on a crappy team...first game of the year and it brought back all the bad memories of the last two season... i saw the same lack of fundementals/ bad habits of the last two years...guys pulling outside pitches...a guy thrown out at home(excusable - but it still brought back bad memories of wavin wally :fyou )...no one trying to bunt their way on..everyone looking to hit a 3 run homer with nobody on base...lead off man swinging at a 3-1 pitch down by 2 runs...catcher backing handing a ball inthe dirt instead of blocking it that led to the 3rd run...carlos lee striking out and not even knowing it was the 3rd strike (classic braindead carlos) and yes..even st jose6 error... like i said its not the loss thats frustrating..it wont be the only loss to the royals..but this loss shows me that this team still hasnt learned the little things about playing winning baseball.... i was watching the cards today...kerry robinson, the 25th guy to make their team , just told today he was on the roster , came up with the score tied in the 8th inning , runner on 3rd ,two outs ..what does he do..lays down a perfect drag bunt and beats it out to give the cards a lead they never relinquished...a bench player drag bunting with two outs for the win???..thats good winning fundemental baseball...plays like that are how good teams win close games...in today's game for the sox..we got 3 hits..did anyone try and bunt their way on base to try and jump start the offense?? that brings me to JM...the sox faced all right handed pitchers today...did daubach or rios get to pinch hit???...why didnt they pinch hit for rowand and alomar???...especially for alomar...i mean why the hell do we carry 3 catchers if we cant pinch hit daubach/rios for alomar???...this is classic manuel...he's in mid season form.. i know this is only one loss..but i couldnt think of a worse way for the sox to lose (outside of someone getting injured)...it already has me wondering if this team really has improved in the fundemental part of the game..and have they kicked the bad habits of the past and really worked to become a group of team players and not individuals??...something manuel promised would happen this year
  12. Heh, yeah, it's funny "watching" people argue, particularly on a message board like this. It's all in good fun until the attacks start getting personal -- which is what some people on here have taken it to. I hope that changes, though, because I'm on here to discuss Sox ball -- not to get into flaming wars. damn..missed al lthe fun tonight clujer....get a clue...you're acting like little b**** ass punk
  13. yeah..probably for 3 minor leaguers in A ball i just drafted jeter yeaterday in a fanstasy league:(...i got valentin as my back up..go jose!! !
  14. yeah we are both fair weather fans..since about 1970 how can anyone be a fairweather fan of the white sox???....we havent been to the world series in 43 years..or won one in 85....both the worst in the AL...you have to actually have won something recently to attaract fairweather fans the watch them leave when you go bad again... we just suffer yer after year and b**** our ass off
  15. First you say that a play in the 2nd inning cost us the game, and now you're giving up on D'Angelo after 1 game? I think I get the picture as to what kind of fan you are. not a fan of jimenez...but hopefully he wins me over... but aaron miles beat himn out in ST and if jimenez , in his first full season as a starter doesnt produce early on miles should be given a shot...i really got a feeling we are gonna miss ray durham this year..while ray wasnt an ideal lead off man atleast we knew he could function well in the lead off spot...jimenez scares me.. not a fan of lee either..never have been..can pull for guys that play baseball in a fog... jimenez swinging 3 -1 down two runs and he's the leadoff man??..carlos lee..well his lack of baseball intelligence has been argued ad naseum.. dont know where you get this stuff that i said manuel blew the game...you asked what mistakes manuel made and i answered a definate mistake he made in the 2nd inning ..and what is arguable a mistake by not getting some lefty hitters in the game against all right handed pitching...
  16. What did Manuel do wrong? Nothing Lee had a poor game, you're right And why should Rowand give back his pay? He played very good defense out there in CF, as he saved at least 1 run with his relay play and diving catch "Real offense"? Nice to see you're giving up after 1 game. I don't want to see you say s*** when this team starts clicking. I will remember your comments, and will point out your hypocricy when you say "this offense is great!". :fyou what did manuel do wrong??? well he pulled the right side of the infield in , in the 2nd inning...of course a weaker grounder goes through just out of jimenez reach....who in their right mind brings the infield in in the 2nd inning ???.. also, kc used all right handed pitchers and daubach and rios never left the bench... Wow, what was I thinking? Pulling the infield in definitely lost us that game. You're right. note -- that was said with much sarcasm it was a stupid move..no one brings in the infield in the 2nd inning..and it didnt work out..a routine ground ball went through for a hit...
  17. im about ready to give up on d'angelo jimenez and giving the job to the man who really won it..aaron miles.. dumbass swings 3-1 when we are down 2 runs late and need baserunners...ugh

  20. If it starts and ends by Carlos being dealt....I'm all for it. i hear ya
  21. runner on 3rd and alomar tries to backhand a curveball in the dirt instead of moving his body and blocking it...stupid SOB
  22. geez..we better come back....twins win , we lose and kenny might start the next white flag trade
  23. in fairness to frank with a runner on first if there is any doubt you gotta go or you risk standing on 3rd watching a DP..but there was no way randa would turn two... oh..have i said that carlos lee sux yet??? agree on your call, frank had to go - disagree on CLee - waiting for your Royce goes yard while St JosE6 errs comments what a f***ing waste of a great start to an inning same old carlos ,CW guys strikes out and didnt even know it was strike 3...doesnt even know what the count was...guy's always in a fog
  24. damn..i have liefer on my fantasy team but didnt start him ...jay gibbons better be tearing it up today
