    Cost of War

that is one of the reasons for this war...saddam was using the oil for food program for himself and his republican gaurd...if you remember the seen in that first southern city where people were dancing in the streets the first question they asked soldiers was , where is the food , we are starving.. the money they got for oil that was supposed to feed the iraqi people was going to support saddam's war machine... i know alot of people on the left think this is for oil and other agendas....even if thats true one of the by products will be these people will get the food and medicine they wernt getting under saddam

As far as political decisions go and judicial decisions? Of course there is desecting and dissension. However, I believe in everything the US Constitution stands for. For example, even though I do not agree with them, I will support anti-war protestors and their right to free speech and their right to assemble..... even when the protestors hold signs which say "We Support Our Troops..... When They Shoot Their Commanding Officers." What I will not support is when the protest turns violent towards police or when the protests become civil disobedience. That is breaking the law. I also happen to agree with the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Why shouldn't every law abiding US Citizen have the right to own a handgun? Or a shotgun? I believe that every US citizen has the right to practice any religion they choose..... whether it be Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Hebrew, Voodoo, etc. The Constitution makes no distinctions. I believe in the right to a free press..... even though, quite occasionally, the press pushes the bounds of good taste. How about the Electoral College? As Moore stated, "President Bush is a fictitious President....." however, according to the Constitution, George Bush is the President. My point in short..... Michael Moore is a hypocrite. He uses the parts of the Constitution which he agrees with (free speech, right to assemble) and tosses aside the parts of the Constitution which he disagrees with (right to keep and bear arms, the Electoral College). Don't bring up the Constitution and it's parts unless you agree with the sum of it's parts..... and defend all parts as they are. As for the Pope and the Dixie Chicks..... I'll care more about what the Pope has to say when women get to play a bigger role in the Catholic Church considering the Pope has so much to say to women in regards to womens issues. And the Country Music fans are showing the Dixie Chicks where they can take their opinion and shove it..... their new album went from #3 to #23..... one of the biggest drops for a Top 3 album in the history of the Billboard excellent!!!
  3. Me too. I'm watching CNN and Fox News Channel every chance I get to get the latest. Baseball should take a backseat to the War..... after all, it isn't the baseball players that are the true heros of this world, it is those that protect our lives and freedoms everyday..... no matter where they serve or what branch or department they serve in. me too....these men and women are heros , they are fighting to the death for the freedom of a people they dont even know...there is no more a noble cause
  4. yeah, good old porzio...mike's problem is not his stuff..its very good..he just cant consistently hit his spots..throws way too many pitches down broadstreet....too bad

i saw him pitch two innings against the brew crew this spring...he retired 6 of the 7 batters he faced...excellent fastball that sinks and runs in on righties...alot like jon garland's...that 7th batter...got a spinner right over the plate...that ball had no break on it and was spanked about 400 feet... i think he will be fine once we leave the desert
  6. dont forget dave sanders..he might be better than all of them

    awesome speech

ill post the meat of it here..on the bottom is a link to the whole article "The enemy should be in no doubt that we are his nemesis and that we are bringing about his rightful destruction. There are many regional commanders who have stains on their souls and they are stoking the fires of hell for Saddam. He and his forces will be destroyed by this coalition for what they have done. As they die they will know that their deeds have brought them to this place. Show them no pity. "There are some who are alive at this moment who will not be alive shortly. It is my foremost intention to bring every single one of you out alive, but there may be some among us who will not see the end of this campaign. We will put them in their sleeping bags and send them back. There will be no time for sorrow. "Those who do not wish to go on that journey, we will not send. As for the others, I expect you to rock their world. Wipe them out if that is what they choose. But if you are ferocious in battle, remember to be magnanimous in victory. It is a big step to take another human life. It is not to be done lightly. "I know of men who have taken life needlessly in other conflicts. I can assure you they live with the mark of Cain upon them. If someone surrenders to you, then remember they have that right in international law and ensure that one day they can go home to their family. The ones who wish to fight, well, we aim to please. "If you harm the regiment or its history by over-enthusiasm in killing or in cowardice, know it is your family who will suffer . . . . "We go to liberate, not to conquer. We will not fly our flags in their country. ... Iraq is steeped in history. It is the site of the Garden of Eden, of the Great Flood and the birthplace of Abraham. Tread lightly there." Reportedly, Collins said the conflict was vital if the West was to curb the threat of Muslim fundamentalists, but he made clear that his men were to respect Iraqi culture and religion. "You will see things that no man could pay to see and you will have to go a long way to find a more decent, generous and upright people than the Iraqis," he told his troops. "You will be embarrassed by their hospitality even though they have nothing." http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...hi%2Dnews%2Dhed

Most people also don't say their favorite childhood book is a text that was first published when they are in college. ROTFLMAO!!!!!! must have missed that one..can you elaborate
  10. Baggio - agreed he is sick. The ancient Aztexs used to cut the hearts out of the living losers of their sports matches - as the book of Ecclesiastes says, there is nothing new under the sun. But does it give you pause to see torture being recommended by others in this thread? It does me. I guess it is bad torture when "they" do and "good" torture if "we" do. Alas, there is nothing new under the sun. Thanks for posting that link - I hadn't had a chance to read the article yet. yes , it does bother me...i understand the anger , especially after what happened yesterday with the POW's ,but we need to follow the rules of war...but if saddam is captured , he needs be treated in rules according to the geneva convention... our military is the most professional with the best training in all the world..im confident they would treat all POW's within the rules of war..no matter what their rank oldroman...i think its great you want to serve your country and join the military..but to make it youll have to learn discipline...most of the time in the army is not all shoot um up cowboy stuff...youll get real familiar with the saying "hurry up and wait "

colin powell was getting D's and F's for awhile in college...barely graduated with a 2.0 GPA.. in an interview when he wa asked how a guy who could barely finish a state college make it all the way to the top of the army ..his answer...its a great country , isnt it grades dont mean s***...half the people in college are sowing their wild oates and are barely coherent when it comes to class time...
  12. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online.../son_of_saddam/ what a sick bastard
  13. wasnt it you , correct me if im wrong , who was so happy after a march where you guys drowned out a pro war supporter by singing "give peace a chance"??...sounds pretty hypocritical to me
  14. that was my biggest problem with the anit war protestors in the 60's..now iwas just little kid so i can only look at it retrospectively...but it seemed to me alot of white guys took off for canada while a lot minorities went in their place...
  15. now i understand you point too..if we call it a "WAR" on terror then maybe we should treat them as POW's and follow geneva conventions since we called it a war...it would be more consistent with the belief that it is a war im just saying legally , if tony blair is right , then that needs to be taken up in the UN as human rights violation and should not be used to defend iraqi treatment of our soldiers...
  16. well , im getting my info from tony blair , so if im wrong blame him ..but in his house of commons Q&A...he was asked about wasnt america being hypocritical in saying iraq was in violation of the geneva convention because of their treastment of al-qaeda "soldiers" at gitmo... tony blair's reply was al-qaeda do not qualify as prisoners of war nor for protection under the geneva convention because they are not soldiers of a recognized nation...that al-qaeda was not a governemnt...
  17. A senior law enforcement agent was recently quoted in the Wall Street Journal, upon news of the arrest of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, that "there's a reason why he isn't going to be near a place where he has Miranda rights or the equivalent. You go to some other country that'll let us pistol whip the guy." The US is violating international law. We can't be violating it and then somehow claim a higher moral ground when another nation does the same. They're both wrong in what they are doing, don't misconstrue my statement. I just get angered that we torture, harass, etc. prisoners and yet we can somehow claim a higher moral ground when other countries capture our prisoners. That's the thing, Steff, the US media isn't covering our "preventative detentions" that we have in undisclosed locations all over the United States. According to various human rights groups, many US citizens and foreigners have been picked up, held without lawyers, without the ability to contact their family, and without being charged of a crime (except the crime of being Middle Eastern) and held in detention because "Al Qaeda is a mosaic, so we need to figure out which parts are part of the mosaic." So, meanwhile they are letting people rot in detention cells. In court cases in NY, the ACLU discussed this with a judge who found these "preventative detentions" as "odious to democracy". Through the court, the ACLU was able to find out that many were being held in solitary confinement and in chains. Yet, this is humane treatment according to the Geneva protocol? I think not. Yes, what Iraq is doing is wrong too. They are both incredibly wrong on this issue of prisoner treatment and it sickens me. It sickens me even more that the US parading around like the innocent party when we do our fair share of harsh prisoner care. im not saying i agree with how we are going about getting our information out of al-qaeda or arab american living here , but neither group falls in the catagory of "prisoner of war" so i dont believe they qualify for protection under the geneva convention..... our detention of al qaeda "soldiers" need to be taken up in a different forum..and they have been...the human right commission of the UN has the US on its list of investigations for its treatment of al-qaeda...al-qaeda terrorists do not qualify as soldiers of war...so you are comparing apples and oranges..its like saying because rodney king got beat by the LAPD we shouldnt complain about how iraq treats our prisoners... the prisoner of war question has to do with iraqi soldiers and their treatment by US and the US soldiers and their treatment by the iraqis....the iraqis were in violation of the geneva convention imo because the iraqi government made a tape of prisoners and put them on public display..plus some of those soldiers needed medical attention and the geneva convention says they must get that immediately..that wasnt happening the US has pretty much followed the rules of war...there has been pictures of iraqi soldier on tv and iraq is claiming thats a violation too..but those are by independant news agencies..that was not a film produced by our government for propaganda purposes..
  18. george h.w. bush put it best..when asked...whats wrong with the french???...he replied .." they're french" pretty much sums it up
  19. its policy of all american media not to show faces or names of those dead or captured until all next of kin have been notified..after that has been acomplished it will be interesting to see who will run it and who wont...i found it interesting the BBC wasnt running it either..

    Saddam's Speach

he said the 51st infantry division fought bravely...they threw down their and gave up or ran home before the first round was fired..lol that was obviously taped during the 48 hour period president bush gave the butcher to leave the country
  21. As a young man, Powell helped to cover up the Mi Lai massacre. That made him a bit iffy in my book. Then after his UN speech, I want to know how he could actually speak the lies (since most of it was plagiarized information from 1991 that they were trying to make look current). However, I do like how he and Condie Rice didn't support Lott and how they both also got on Dubya's case about affirmative action. He was pretty much against the war in Iraq for a while, then caved and did a 180. Weak sauce. there are two articles in the new york from last week on colin powell...unfortunately the bastards at the times make you pay a buck 15 to read the archives...but both of these talk about powell's initial belief that war was wrong in sept to believing strongly that it was the only way to remove saddam his reason..his dealing with the french and coming to the conclusion they were basically never going to let the security counsel do anything to really remove saddam from power...powell also said de villapean stabbed him in the back...two good articles if you want to pay to read them...one on the 16th and 17th

im sorry but your sense of humor escapes me jesus on a day when we have on film american soldiers who were captured , humiliated , abused and some almost for sure murdered in cold blood by saddam's henchmen , the timing to make a statement like that has to be one of the more insensitive idiotic ramblings ive heard in a while...if this guy ever took the time to think , he should be utterly ashamed of himself..there are other places (and times) to make comments like this... and im not trying to violate his right to free speech..im just commenting on what he said...
  25. Did anybody see Canadian Bacon when they are driving the car with the insults written in english all over their car and the cop pulls them over....he tells them that if they have signs they have to be in French and english, so they have to write all the insults in French too? (sorry to change the subject, just all this anger and stuff in Canada made me think of the movie, haha ) that movie has one of my favorite lines in it.. "there is a time for thinking and there is a time for action...and this, gentleman" " is no time for thinking"
