been thinking a lot about Mercedes lately and something popped into my head what if somebody (coach/teammate/manager/agent) made it apparent to Yermin that he would not be getting regular PT next year. like, in his mind, he was gonna play himself into a position even though it's clear to everyone breathing that Vaughn is a starter going forward as the DH/1B/LF. Maybe that's what caused his slump. I'm sure the league adjusting is part of it but I can't help but think he had a wake up call that he will be coming off the bench next year this situation is more likely to me than the Tony curse or whatever

so this is a strong hint that he's testing the FA waters right? doesn't necessarily mean that, but reading the tea leaves....

I think Abreu might be nursing an injury tbh, I'm not on board with this idea that he stopped being able to catch up to fastballs the year after an MVP (shortened) season, just seems silly to suggest that over the more likely reason being an injury of some sort (I suggested in another thread that maybe it's an oblique, something that absolutely affects your ability to swing a bat hard)

if Abreu had been trending down vs the fastball over the last few seasons I would say you were onto something it's much more likely that he's playing with some sort of mild injury, likely an oblique or something vs he just can't hit fastballs anymore
