That Was Not As Good Of A Game... The Semi-Positive Postgame Thread
lol, owens is going to disappoint a lot of unsuspecting sox fans and this team isn't built to contend, if it was, we wouldn't have Owens preparing to be our leadoff guy, we wouldn't have basically 3 unknowns in our rotation, we wouldn't have a guy who's never faced MLB pitching in his whole life, as the starting 2B or CF this team is a joke right now, it's hilarious

That Was Not As Good Of A Game... The Semi-Positive Postgame Thread
wouldn't surprise me if BA is on the bench, because he intends on packaging him into a trade somewhere and doesn't want other teams to see that he can't really hit well in the big leagues, moreso letting his spring performance maybe elevate his trade value i dunno

May a curse be on your house, oh tribe of Cleveland!
QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) Guh? Actually he was almost certainly going to throw a strike because he doesn't want to walk him. Innings get out of control because you don't make guys hit the ball. See Vasquez today. he had no command facing thome, or konerko, and dye swings at a 3-2 pitch that's not in the strike zone, after going ahead in the count 2-0 and the two following strikes that followed that 2-0 count, only 1 was a strike and JD fouled it off, the other pitch wasn't even in the zone and the HP umpire called it a strike whether or not perez wanted to throw a strike or not, he didnt and all indications pointed to his command being off by judging the two previous at bats before dye. meanwhile, a walk brings in 1, a hit brings in at least 2 dye shouldn't have been swinging the bat there, period edit: the second strike that was out of the zone, following the initial 2-0 count, was out of the zone and JD fouled it off, so he fouled off ball 3 ugh this is depressing, seriously

can't believe Dye wasn't smart enough to know that he wasn't going to throw him a strike there. get your head in the game, fool. 6-1 lead, bases juiced, yeah he's gonna give you a pitch to hit, when a walk brings 1 home. genius.

May a curse be on your house, oh tribe of Cleveland!
i remember last year, when our offense was just pathetic early on in the year and everyone in the media constantly said "They will start hitting, they won't be this bad all year", and as it turned out, they were bad all year, monumentally and historically bad actually i'm actually excited for the tigers series though, i think we have a better chance beating them than we do cleveland, and if the past serves any indication, we will do better against detroit than cleveland this year

May a curse be on your house, oh tribe of Cleveland!
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) Like last game? No, yesterday we weren't facing a pitcher dominating us. I think you missed my point. This team needs to hit homeruns to score 4-5+ runs a game, which is about the amount we would need to have this game tied up with Carmona pitching
-
May a curse be on your house, oh tribe of Cleveland!
man, you take homeruns away from our offense and this is what you get

the time for quentin in RF may be nigh, dye's defense and speed are seriously in decline. i know it's cold but he looked just like this last year in warm weather

White Sox @ Indians - Opening Day Game Thread
is the lineup in the OP the official opening day lineup, as far as batting order? i checked the mlb.com link to ozzie's final opening day starters, and i couldn't find an official actual batting order of that lineup

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) I assume you'd have Uribe and Alexei flipped in scenario 1. nope. because SS is alexei's strong position, and uribe seems to be better defensively at 2nd than alexei is, granted we've only been able to look at spring training to make decisions like this
-
Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
i'd actually rather have (assuming uribe is going to be in our lineup) alexei at SS, uribe at 2nd, BA in CF with garland over floyd in the rotation instead of cabrera at SS, uribe at 2nd, alexei in CF with floyd in the rotation i guess that's the way i look at it right now

The Last Roster Spot
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) Not true at all. Rain delays, a starter having a bad day, getting hit by a line drive. There are TONS of reasons that you may need a long man. Sometimes you want to burn a game so you can be at full strength next game. When you have relievers with a history of injuries, and your pen is full of specialists, you need someone to flat out eat innings. Is Masset the guy? No, but we need someone to do it. oh, don't get me wrong, i guess i should've been more clear. i'm not against having a long-man in the pen, period, i just don't want it to be masset. because if you're relying on masset to be that long-man/spot starter, then the team is done already. i'd personally rather have broadway in that role, he looked pretty sharp in that last royals series last year it's just that, if we're relying on a long-man this year because one of the 5 guys sucks and can't do the job, or if one of them gets injured, our season is over, whether it's masset or not, i just don't want the long-man to be masset is it finalized that it's simple down to macdougal/masset/wasserman for the final spot, or just wass vs. masset? i'd rather put massett on waivers, bring up broadway and keep wasserman & macD in the pen, assuming macD is already set in stone i just don't like the idea of masset being our longman, he's brutal

The Last Roster Spot
this is a no brainer, wasserman. if your starting rotation is having problems with one or more pitchers going more than 5 innings without getting totally abused, needing a longman to come in for relief on those days, or a "spot starter incase someone gets injured or simply can't do their job", then your team is already done for the year, especially when you're relying on masset to be that person to spot start or go long innings so play your strengths, put wasserman in the ROOGY specialist role and hope for the best, because masset isn't going to be able to give this team anything this year, to keep them in contention if another pitcher goes down, it's that simple really. we don't have the depth in pitching to survive a pitcher going down due to injury/sucking, so might as well put the guys on the team that are going to give us our best chance of winning under the assumption that every one of the 5 starting pitchers will stay in the rotation all year
