  1. so have any of you guys noticed any holes/weaknesses in fields swing that would allow the league to catch up to him next year, that would severely hurt his power numbers? or will his raw talent be enough?
  2. didn't fields hit a HR in a game not too long ago that brought us within 1 and we still lost?
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) Yet somehow he hits homeruns more often than even Josh Fields, even with his current slump. Jim Thome is probably the hitter taken for granted the most in White Sox history. He was ragged on last season and look at the numbers. When its all said and done this year, they won't be as great as last year, but they will be pretty good. He's the least of the White Sox problems. If he is the biggest problem, this team would be a lot better than 4th or 5th place which is where they will wind up. 1. compare thome's first half last year, to his second half. I only ragged on him last year during the second half first half JT = .298 .414 .651 1.065 (30HR 77RBI) second half JT = .274 .420 .522 .942 (12HR 32RBI) basically, when we finally started closing the gap between us and the twins/tigers towards the end of the season, thome was nowhere to be found 2. if fields put up the #'s thome has since the ASB, he'd be just as terrible as thome is right now Post ASB Thome: .226 / .364 / .396 (OPS: .760) (4 HR 15 RBI) Fields : .261 / .312 / .504 (OPS: .816) (8HR 23 RBI) add in the fact that Fields is making the league minimum, is healthy, and is more productive on the base paths, AND CAN HIT LEFT HANDED PITCHERS, the comparisons are finished, Fields has been the superior hitter since the middle of the season this isn't an attempt to hate on JT, as I said he's one of my favorite players on this team, but as it stands right now: he isn't helping and it's probably due to some nagging injury (he's been hurt and on the DL this year AND last year, so you can sure as hell expect him on the DL next year too, you better hope it isn't as long of a stint as it was this year)
  4. is it just me or has it been extremely rare all year for us to lose a lead, then tie the game back up?
  5. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) LOL Let me guess, we would be on our way to another title with Rowand? Thome is one of the only players in our lineup who will ever take a walk, which some people don't understand the value of. believe it or not, i'm one of the FEW people who doesn't give a rats a$$ about seeing rowand come back, because despite his above average D in CF, his bat is below average (yeah, he's having a career year in the NL) my statement wasn't a retaliation to the trade of rowand for thome, I just think we might need another DH, perhaps putting Dye there and finding another RF next year (or whenever we get rid of Thome) wouldn't be necessarily a bad idea
  6. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) This team needs total rebuilding. Just tinkering with the edges...adding a bullpen arm and a corner outfielder won't cut it. Most of the guys we have are either just not very good, old, or injury prone, and others look washed up. Fields, Wasserman, a couple of our starting pitchers, Jenks, and Paulie give some hope, but every team in baseball has 6 or 7 good players. The great teams have 15 good players. We have 15 duds. agreed, and speaking specifically about thome, it's either a nagging injury (which probably is the case), or he's losing his touch due to age (IMO doubtful). either way, since coming back from his stint on the DL, his batting average has continued on a downward spiral (and has never went up since coming back), he was hitting nearly .300 after coming off the DL, now he's hitting a robust .260, nearly 40 points down this started after the allstar break last year and has continued into this year
  7. this team isn't going anywhere with jim thome in the lineup, as sad as that is to say because he's one of my favorite players on this team, easily my 2nd or 3rd favorite his OBP is extremely high figuring he never hits, like ever, and its only because when guys ahead of him get on, and steal 2nd, they just walk thome to get to a weaker hitter behind him
  8. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) Jenks not available tonight after tweaking his ankle yesterday. eh? ozzie said he is available tonight, just now on the score nvm; rongey was told by coop that bobby isnt avail tinight
  9. would it frustrate anyone here if jenks breaks the record in a meaningless game, where we're going to definitely lose regardless (like today)? I want him to break the record in a game that matters, what about you guys?
  10. not to be a negative nancy but i find it hard for gavin to reproduce anything close to his last outing, given his track record of not having any mental toughness, my guess is he's well aware that this game has a lot on the line for him, and it will probably affect his performance prove me wrong gavin please
  11. 4 more outs to break a record that's been in place for over 30 years! you can dooooo eeeeeeeeeet!
  12. i was hoping richar would've gotten some playing time tonight, i wanted to see how he'd fare against CC for the first time good win though
  13. poof, and that's a whitesox winner can we keep steve stone? lol
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2963269 Myers, 38, was 3-0 with a 2.66 ERA in 55 games for New York this season. He pitched one inning Sunday, allowing one run on two hits. He had been struggling against left-handed batters, who hit .312 against him this season.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?! DON'T TALK ABOUT PLAYOFFS!! I JUST HOPE WE'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO WIN A GAME!! we're talkin' about practice not a game, not a game practice we're talkin' about......er, sorry, it doesn't fit ;(
  16. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Are any of those players under investigation by the feds? Do any of those players have multiple books written about them with very specific information in it? How are those players perceived by the media? Are any of them viewed as badly as him? There couldn't be a reason for that, could there? Where there is smoke, there is fire. there would be investigations behind them if they had accomplished 20% of what bonds has in his career, because they have not broken records, there won't be any federal investigations on their part, it's that simple the only reason barry is being investigated by the federal government, is because he's breaking very important records, and he's breaking them because he's an amazing hitter you can look at numerous players who've used PED's, and none of them have accomplished what barry has, that's a testament to his skill, not the drug's he supposedly used
  17. :sweep: .500 since the ASB! lol 32 consecutive batters retired by bobby
  18. it's becoming clear to me that our pitchers struggle the most when we build up a big lead, and they have to pitch to overly-aggressive hitters that are swinging out of desperation to shrink our lead
  19. red alert, zach miner on suicide watch
  20. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) For the day, yes. For the series, no. obviously
  21. KW, if you're reading this: give up on floyd, he's not good enough
  22. i'd rather bring in vazquez and save jenks for the 2nd game
  23. bases loaded, 0 outs = no runs we ARE the worst team in baseball, no other team does that as much as we do, period major league talent doesn't load up the bases repeatedly all year, and more often than not walk away with zero runs, absolutely pathetic i dunno if i can watch anymore games this year, its too frustrating anymore
