If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
Eloy cant stay healthy and isn't producing. He's also owed $24 million between 2023/2024. He has more value to the Sox hoping he turns it around then trading him. If you're trading a superstar, you aren't looking to get a reclamation project in return.

I like Andrew Vaughn and think hes going to be a real nice player, but hes a glaring odd man out in the current roster and payroll commitment construction. We are stuck with Eloy, Pollock, and Grandal next season. That's an OF, C and DH spot. Abreu most likely comes back with the way hes playing. You see him in the dugout, he doesn't look like someone who is ready to call it a career. Still have Sheets who they obviously love. That's a 1B and DH spot. Assume you are planning out your team with Juan Soto on it. DH is open, LF is open, Robert in CF, Soto in RF, Abreu at 1B Now you still have to find places to play Vaughn, Eloy, Sheets, Pollock, and Grandal and there's only LF and DH open. Currently constructed, Vaughn has no locked position and could realistically be used in a Soto trade. Its not that I don't like or want to guy, its just a great match up. Rick Hahn is also trying to keep a job, and there isn't much more dangerous than a GM trying to keep his job. Look at what Bill O'Brien did to the Texans, woof.

White Sox Get: Juan Soto and Patrick Corbin Nationals Get: Lance Lynn, Andrew Vaughn, Colson Montgomery, Lenyn Sosa, and Norge Vera

Which combination would provide more wins for the Chicago White Sox for the remainder of this year and the next two years. Juan Soto and Davis Martin or Andrew Vaughn and Michael Kopech? Considering that Juan Soto alone provides more wins than both Vaughn and Kopech, its an easy choice for me. Its all wishful thinking anyways.

Man, you guys are crazy. Just from a player standpoint, Juan Soto is a 23 year old absolute superstar.

If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
This is just flat out wrong. Is there any other team that could offer a package that started with two young impact type players like Vaughn and Kopech? They also have an ascending top 50 prospect in Montgomery as well. I would rather take Vaughn, Kopech, and Montgomery over 3 top 10-20 prospects all day. You are right though, there is less than zero chance they could ever extend him.

Ok, then we are just in plain disagreement about that gutting the future. None of those guys move the needle, Sosa does.

If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
I would definitely do this. Crochet is a lost cause as far as I am concerned.

Sorry, I meant the package would be Vaughn, Montgomery, and ONE OF Sosa/Mena/Vera. I only put those three names because I don't know if they would be looking for a pitcher or hitter as that third piece. Yeah, we know they aren't trading for him but its still good discussion on what ifs

Taking money out of the equation, this trade would be perfect. Soto is an upgrade from Vaughn and Montgomery is still a prospect who is 2-3 years away. That's getting a superstar player without hurting the big league team and not gutting the farm. Almost seems impossible.

Well Sosa right now isn't top 40-100 type. That's Montgomery. The package of Vaughn, Montgomery, and Sosa/Mena/Vera is more in line with what you are proposing. I do agree with you though, the package will not be as crazy as some are making it seem due to that looming price tag.

If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
Especially when the odds are likely that starting next year Soto isn't batting third for the worst team in baseball, hes batting third in the Yankees, Dodgers, or Padres lineup. The counting stats will be absurd.

That's an offer that I think would be easily beaten by other teams. Its fun to play this game, but the White Sox will never make this trade and its because of money, not assets.

I like Andrew Vaughn a lot, but he is in no way comparable to Soto. Not even close. Juan Soto is a 6-7 war player. Andrew Vaughn will never come close to that, ever.

I would venture to guess when he does get traded, it will not be a better package than Vaughn, Kopech, and Montgomery.

2022 MLB Draft Thread
Ugh, this team would have been so much better off with Rodon than Pollock

If Soto is here for those 5 years, yes it does. If he is here for 2 years and then on another team, ouch.

If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
Vaughn, Eloy, and Montgomery not being in the ballpark is definitely silly. If money was no obstacle and the White Sox would sign Soto to the extension he seeks, I would have no problem trading them Vaughn, Eloy, and Montgomery.

As in you think he plays out his contract and walks as a FA or nothing happens this season? If he isn't resigning, he will absolutely be traded eventually.

JR: No comment on TLR job security
Yes you are right, I came into this thread thinking "Wow, maybe he is on the hot seat" and am now leaving with "Welp, sit back relax and strap it on, LaRussa isn't going anywhere."
-
2022 MLB catch all thread
Sounds crazy, but unless he literally loses a limb anytime soon that money range isn't going anywhere for future offers I would imagine.
-
2022 AL Central catch all thread
He was not playing well, but you already had him up for 83 games and your team isn't going anywhere. Why not let him figure it out on the big club?

White Sox select Noah Schultz #26
They should, being able to recruit a kid and tell them "hey come here and we will get you drafted" is a huge draw.
