Honestly, I don't think it matters who they have pitching for them. I think there is zero chance they could beat the Rays, Yankees, or Red Sox in a 7 game series if they even got past their first series.

I think they'll hold on to win the division just based on how bad all the teams are in it. Ending the season with 3 home games against the worst team in baseball is probably going to be huge.

My guess is he's the worst player in franchise history who played 500+ games. Trying to find that information now since I despise this man.

Problem is, these "the cost is basically zero" trades aren't going to move the needle for their playoff chances.

I would have no issues with either of these moves.

I think they end up with a veteran catcher and a couple arms, but I don't think they cave to the demands for a top of the line arm.

If they are going to trade for good controllable pitching then my concerns are off the table. I just don't want to see them trade away these players for rentals for this season.

Or he walks into the locker room and says I believe in the group of guys we have, didn't feel like we needed to make any major additions. Of course it wouldn't be doom and gloom, but for an organization that doesn't shell out major money you need all the shots you get from your farm system. I would hate to see them trade anyone in our top 10-12 prospects for some rental guy, but its not going to ruin my life.

To play devils advocate, they are in first place and many people around here think they are one of the best teams in the AL. Why would anyone on this team be insulted if they don't make any meaningful additions? Im all for adding players that can help, but it would be ridiculous to trade any of our top prospects to chase one season in this teams current state. If the goal was to build a sustained winner while being able to reinforce your roster from your minors, they are headed in the right direction. It would just be so foolish to do anything to compromise that plan for this season.

The Sox are 23-13 Vs the AL Central and A's They are 32-36 Vs everyone else. The next 10 games are going to be huge for them, time to prove it they are for real.

Tampa and New York record wise. Would probably put Boston better than them at this point as well.

This is a fair argument, but at the same time I appreciate the organization thinking big picture and not just this season.

I think it just feels like that because the team was really bad recently so when you would see someone perform for another team, it stings. I think if they are in first place and headed for 90+ wins and a playoff spot I can't imagine you would see the same (at least certainly not as much as you did the past several years in the same situation.)

That's under the assumption that he blows up and is some stud player, and probably the Sox would need to have a disappointing season. While people may discuss or make comparisons, I stand by what I said that if the Sox are a 90+ win playoff team no one is going to lament the loss of Jacob Gonzalez.

If the White Sox are a playoff team and contenders no one is going to be thinking about Jacob Gonzalez next season, regardless of what he ends up doing in Pittsburgh.

I think it would be foolish to trade Carlson anytime soon. He's about to be 20 and isn't close to creating any issues with roster management. While I agree that he is the most likely man out, its not a decision that needs to be made right now.

If the MLB didn't have such a wonky ass draft we wouldn't have this issue. Its designed to game the system which sucks. I need to draft this guy who isn't talented enough to be drafted period in the first round so I can take this first round talent in the 3rd round. Wtf?

Until it actually happens, I don't believe in any way the Sox are going to trade for a $200 million contract or sign someone to one. I mean its fun to kick around, but Dylan Cease was traded because they had no intentions to pay him. Same reason Crochet was traded. They aren't going to turn around and take on that contract. Same reason why I think its foolish to let Mune reach free agency, they will lose him if that happens.
