  1. Pitching through 4 has given up 9 baserunners and 6 runs.. woof.
  2. I just don't agree with the overthinking on something that might not even happen in the game. Put your best, optimal, lineup out there and cross that bridge when and if you get there.
  3. So did I hear that right, we have this shitty lineup construction today incase we may or may not have to use a pinch hitter at some point in the game?
  4. Im not going to panic about any performances so far in game 1 but what I will panic about is the terrible lineup put together today and the continued puzzling strategy decisions. It will be better with Teel and Baldwin back, but man im worried about the pitching especially if Shane Smith isnt going to be good.
  5. Offense sucks, defense sucks, pitching sucks.. they are in midseason form 3 innings into the season boys.
  6. Can't give up that run in inning 2 of game 1 of a 162 game season...
  7. Well, silver lining Misiorowski is already at 45 pitches through 2 innings.
  8. 63-66, they don't have the pitching.
  9. I supposed you would come around because ultimately that would be a good thing, BUT you will complain that he made the team initially and cite how awful he was last season before coming around. This is my bold prediction don't s%*# on it.
  10. Jarred Kelenic makes the team and leads them in WAR, Chicago White Sox complains about it all season and Harrold makes a triumphant return due to this.
  11. Salary is obviously not comparable but here are two guys.. one everyone hates and one everyone thinks is one of our best hitters.. .264 / .293 / .727 - 22 HR - 75 RBI - Can't play defense - 0.8 BWar .240 / .307 / .738 - 20 HR - 63 RBI - Can't play defense - 1.0 BWar
  12. 27th in runs scored, 20th in ERA, 20th in ER allowed, 28th in Field %, 27th in Errors. They were pretty much near the bottom for everything outside of pitching which they were right at bottom 1/3 cutoff. This is why they were "bad". I fully expect to see all those trend up this season though, maybe not pitching, but all other areas.
  13. That's pretty much why I don't put much stock into it. Its using runs scored and runs allowed to determine an expected winning percentage. It supposed to show how many games a team should have won, but like you said if we win 1 game 12-0 and then lose 5 games in a row that were all 1 score because our bullpen sucks that doesn't exactly mean we are better than what our final record showed. We lost those games because we were bad.
  14. I don't put much stock into pythagorean records. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is what bad teams do. This is just saying "Hey, then only won 60 games but if they weren't such a bad team they could have won 71". Well, they were a bad team.
  15. If Drury hadn’t gotten hurt he would have been on the opening day roster
  16. He is definitely capable of doing it as we just saw last season. What worries me is how awful he was prior to the call up, and what adjustments will be made from opposing pitchers. Was it a hot streak or is he just one of those guys who needed the callup to get going to his potential. My concern is him striking out 30% or more and hitting .190, otherwise you're right he's probably hitting 30+ homers fairly easily.
  17. Same, I also voted 19 or fewer.
  18. This is the same organization that accidentally put out AJ Hinch signature on the Tony Larussa hiring graphic. I would say its highly unlikely they intentionally left out Frank, they're just incompetent.
  19. There is literally nowhere for him to play without losing a more intriguing young player.
  20. Eh, Shields was a durable SP with a low 4 ERA. Erik Johnson was nothing and Tatis was a 17 year old who hadn't even played pro ball yet. If Tatis had flamed out, no one would even remember this trade I imagine. Well, maybe Caulfield.
  21. Way late to the response on this, but I can't think of a better way to call it a career than for a guy whose motto was never give up, to finally have to give up. I mean hell, this whole retirement tour was basically Cena giving up wrestling. It made sense to me.
  22. Those are not really comparable scenarios. There is a very big difference between trying to plug a hole on a contending team and trying to plug a hole on a rebuilding team. There was nothing wrong with the James Shields trade at the time, but in hindsight it was absolutely horrific. The guys you named that Getz acquired were waiver claims, released players, or nothing trades.

No matter how you look at it, OF or DH, he will be taking away at bats for someone who needs them more. Hopefully, he is DFA before midseason.
  24. I know you aren't justifying it, this is merely a forum discussion. I think too many people get caught up in "arguments" when that's not really at all what you or myself are doing here. When I said fire everyone, I didn't mean every single employee for the organization. Director of Player Development and Amateur Scouting Director would however be two that I would feel need to go if you went into a rebuild that failed as miserably as ours did. We don't need to pretend that the only thing wrong with the team was the acquisitions the GM made. There was definitely a lack of development and no reinforcements from the minors that contributed to this teams demise.
