  1. Mack to the Padres ESPN.com link--probably will be updated: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2956001
  2. Ken Rosenthal is saying the deal is dead. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7078822
  3. I just can't believe that Dye isn't linked to any other teams. His stock must be really low around baseball.
  4. Murphy and Gabbard to Texas for Gagne, pending on if Gagne waives his no trade clause
  5. The Red Sox and Rangers have agreed to an Eric Gagne deal, pending Gagne waiving his no-trade clause, sources told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal
  6. "Jayson Stark just reported on espnnews that Yankees and Rangers have a deal in place for Gagne. Only sticking point is money (the yanks have agreed to pay a portion of the bonus clause money in gagne's contract to appease him setting up rivera). Stark said the players agreed upon in the deal are Tyler Clippard, Jeff Marquez, and a C level prospect. Also said the yankees worked hard to get the deal done, knowing the Red Sox and Mets are in the hunt. He said the deal could be announced by tomorrow morning." Reported on a CBS sportline forum

  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) KW's going to sleep on the Dye/Boston deal tonight, and see how he feels tomorrow. The Red Sox substituted a prospect into the equation instead of Masterson or Delcarmen. KW's going to see if he feels the two draft picks are more valuable than the package. Hey fathom where did you hear that? Just curious. Also did you hear anything about Macowiak being dealt tomorrow.
  9. According to the Kansas City Star, the Royals will acquire Kyle Davies from the Braves for Octavio Dotel. Definitely a deal worth making for Kansas City. Davies' stock has fallen the last two years, but he's just 23 and he still has a chance to be a long-term No. 3. The Braves are reportedly involved in discussions with the Reds regarding Bronson Arroyo. The Reds are under no pressure at all to move Arroyo, who is signed through 2010 with an option for 2011. The Braves may have the money to take him on -- he big extension doesn't kick in until 2009, so he'll make less than $6 million through the end of 2008 -- but they're starting to run low on minor league talent to pull off another major deal. They'd likely have to include Jo-Jo Reyes, another quality pitching prospect (Tommy Hanson) and one of their top remaining minor league position players. The Phillies, seeking to upgrade their rotation, have acquired Reds right-hander Kyle Lohse for Class AA left-hander Matt Maloney, according to a major-league source.
  10. I have a feeling that all this RedSox talk is just a smoke screen and KW is dealing with another team. He likes to operate that way.
  11. I think maybe what Bruce Levine is reporting about us trying to sign Dye to an extension, maybe a little posturing on KW's part. He might be hoping that the RedSox see we may resign him, and up thier offer for him. I myself really don't know what to do with this guy. I'm not sure if I want him back, but at the same point who do we have for next year. This team really has so many question marks it's just unreal. And goes to show how poor of a minor league system that we do have. Besides form Fields, who is doing ok this year, we have nothing as far as position players. I think this just goes to show how far Sweeney and BA have fallen out of favor. And don't count me as one of the Jerry Owens fans. I don't believe he will ever be more that a 4th outfielder at best. KW is gonna have his work cut out for him to try and get this Org. back to a level where it can compete in this division.
  12. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) It's here. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Thanks WOLFMAN!!
  13. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) And supposedly, the Mets are now in on Garland. Rotoworld said it would cost Pelfrey, Milledge, or Gomez...if we don't get 2 of those, then we don't trade. A one for one Garland for Milledge is a joke. Pelfrey and Milledge for Garland then we talk. I agree we should get alot if we trade Garland, especially to an NL team. In the National league JG would really excel. Hey do you have a link to this latest rumor?
  14. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) This was responded to better earlier, but this idea about 2-month rentals not getting anything is bogus, considering the Padres just obtained 3 solid (not spectacular) prospects for a 2-month rental MIDDLE relief pitcher. The Iguchi deal on the surface was bogus, but still isn't the same as Dye. Iguchi would not warrant compensation such that Dye would in the term of draft picks, so you are arguing apples v. oranges. And my hypothetical about Ellsbury or Bucholz had the Red Sox getting Dye + 2 prospects (one from Chicago, one from Philly) for Pena and Ellsbury or Bucholz. Certainly, not obscene. If the BoSox don't want to trade either just because they don't fine, but the value isn't that far off for kids who have virtually no major league experience. Pitchers are always gonna command a greater price. Linebrink has had a solid year. Dye has had a terrible year. I understand about the draft picks regarding Iguchi and Dye. All I am saying is "I" don't believe any team is gonna give up any kind of "TOP" prospects for Dye. I say hold onto him and take the draft picks ourselves if we don't sign him next year.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) He is a 2 month rental who also is virtually guaranteed to bring you back A level compensation, so you're basically trading JD and at worst a sandwich pick and a 2nd round pick in exchange for whatever you get. If another team isn't willing to part with something quality, fine, then JD hangs around til the end of the season and we take the picks. This isn't like Soriano or Buehrle, where if they walked, you were going to lose a ton in value because they're worth so much more on the trade market than those 2 picks would be. I understand this, but to think Dye is gonna bring back a teams top prospects, it's just not gonna happen. We are better off like you said in holding on to him and taking the picks. If we want someone elses top prospects we need to trade either Garland or Vazquez or Jenks, those players would bring back the greatest packages of prospects.
  16. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) DO Marmol and Murton and you got a deal. The Cubs might think about a Dye for Murton trade, but they will never give up Marmol, unfortunately.
  17. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) If there is anyway we could get Michael Bourne (from Philly) + Ellsbury or Bucholz (from Boston) in this deal I'd absolutely love that. Maybe something like this -we get Bourne, Phillies prospect (if we deal B. Anderson), Bucholz or Ellsbury for Dye, Owens/Anderson, prospect (P or OF prospect) -Boston gets Dye + White Sox prospect (P or OF prospect) + Phillies prospect for Mo Pena and Bucholz/Ellsbury -Phillies get Mo Pena + Jerry Owens/Brian Anderson for Michael Bourne + prospect (if Anderson is the offer) I'd like to see a way the White Sox could get both Ellsbury and Bucholz, but I can't imagine the Red Sox would deal both of them, considering it's not likely they even deal one. Bourne and Ellsbury would be 2/3 of our new Outfield. Neither have a lot of power, so we'd really need to push for a power hitting OF to play either LF or RF. Either that or I wonder what it would take for the Red Sox to deal us Ellsbury + Pena and we do another deal to get Bourne. An OF of Ellsbury, Bourne, and Pena looks pretty good to me. But what would that cost? Probably something like Dye, Anderson, Sweeney, Broadway. If we were to get Bourne, Ellsbury, and Pena then Sweeney and Anderson become expendable. Keep in mind we also have Josh Fields who potentially could move to LF, not to mention a couple nice OF prospects in our AA and A ball. I think we'd have our OF set for the future and also have the required speed up top. We keep Grinderstad to teach the kids how to grind, find a shortstop who can hit over .220 and run a little bit and go for the fooking records. Why would the Phillies even think about doinf this trade?? Dye will not get you either Bourne or Ellsbury or Bucholz. Dye will get you Wily Mo and maybe another prospect but that's about it. He is a two month rental, people aren't gonna give up top prospects for rental players, let alone give them up for players that are having bad years. Alot of people on here were shocked at what little we got for Iguchi. I have a feeling people are gonna be REALLY shocked if we trade Dye and see what we get.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) I agree with DA....Dye is going to be a stud the rest of the year. I think he's finally relaxing and not trying to hit 5 homers every game. Combined with him looking much healthier, I hope KW is able to get a Linebrink-esque package for him. But please, please don't trade him to the Cubs. I would deal Dye to the Cubs in a second, if they were offering Carlos Marmol in return. The kid is a stud, and he is just getting better. Dye is having a terrible year, he has turned it up a little since the ASB, but still if we could get Marmol, I would do that in a New York minute
  19. ***On a side note, I am watching CTL, and Gail Fisher propsed a trade between the cubs and sox. The cubs would get Dye and the sox would get Marmol. Mark Gonzalez said the cubs would have to give us more?? What's he smoking. I would trade Dye for Marmol in a second. The guy is gonna be special!!
  20. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Apparently we haven't been watching the same 2Bman. Iguchi was a good player and helped the Sox. We get a Class A prospect in return. Hum! He was good, but he wasn't anything special. Defensively, he was slow, and didn't get rid of the ball quick enough when turning the double play. We wouldn't have been to offer him arbitration so we wouldn't have gotten any comp. picks for him, so at least we got something. Now we can see if Richar can play 2nd for the next 2 months. To me it was a good move. Who's to say anyone else was even interested in the guy? Obviously this was the best deal in KWs eyes.
  21. Why is everyone so upset with this deal? Iguchi was nothing special. He was serviceable as a 2nd baseman. No flash or star power. I think KW got what he could for the guy. Unless people have seen this guy pitch in the minors, how can you say that we got screwed in this deal? Iguchi wasn't anything special by no means.
  22. Hopefully this is just the beginning. The guy I would love to ge rid of somehow someway is Jose. If KW can pull off a trade with him, and only eat a part of the contract that is left he will have suceeded. We have to get this guy moved somehow. I don't care if we don't get anything back for him, just get rid of that contract.
  23. I don't see a problem at all with this trade. Iguchi was looking bad this year both offensively and defensivly. KW got what he could for him. So now let's see what Richar can do for the next 2 months at 2nd, and hopefully this Dubee can develop and help us in the future. I just wish they could have talked the Phillies into taking Jose off our hands.
