  1. when do they send out invoices asking if we (season ticket holders) if we want to buy playoff tickets? I remember them doing it earlier in the past.
  2. Is our offense still too power oriented????? Griffey is still a good hitter, but he is aging and hits for a low average and is a below-average CF. Also, he no longer runs well and could clog the basepaths. While possible, it's hard to have a deep playoff run with just a lineup of power hitters (only once in 40 years). Even AJ and Alexei (especially Alexei) are free-swingers. Cabrera is not a true leadoff hitter. He is more suited for the 2 hole. I get concerned watching them try to hit good pitching, b/c they all swing for the fence. And you'll see nothing but good pitching in the playoffs (assuming they get there) and it's hard to hit 3 or 4 HR's off Joe Saunders or Josh Beckett no matter who's hitting, good pitching shuts down good hitting. I hope they trade for either a good contact hitter or a speed player, they badly need it. Junior may be a HOFer, but he is past his prime and will not cover the gaps the way he used to.
  3. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 03:33 PM) We dont have the bullets to win now? Arent the Sox in 1st place? And it isnt worth going for it all by trading some prospects? Why would this be suicide for the next 5 years? They do have the bullets on the TEAM. However the prospects aren't there. Also, if they trade these guys (ie Fields) you now don't have a 3B next year. They would have a great pitching staff, but an offense that virtually relies totally on the longball and only ONCE in the last 35 years has a team that lead the league in HR's won the WS. They can score runs, but in bunches and when you face good pitching when the weather gets colder it will be harder to hit HR's. Plus this team struggles executing offensively. I'm not saying it can't happen, but it more than likely won't. It's not suicide for the pitching staff. But god know what would happen to the position players. We don't want a repeat of 2007 for 3 straight years. JR and KW don't like spending big money or long contracts. Also, they would probably have to trade Ramirez or either Thortnon/Logan to make this work and that's BAD.
  4. This is almost impossible. Do you guys remember what it took to get Swisher? MacDougal? It would take more than that COMBINED to get a Cy Young candidate mid-season!!!!!!! I'm not saying it can't happen, but sometimes we overrate our prospects, and when you have the worst farm system in all of baseball, you just can't trade everything you have left. It's like suicide for the next 5 years. JD is only under contract for a couple of years, PK is falling off the face of the earth, Crede/Thome/OC will be gone next year. And Javy and Contreras will be gone in two years. You have to think about the future also, not just the present. If we through all of our prospects into this deal, we will be lauding KW now but ripping him in the future. All I'm saying is we simply don't have the bullets to win now and not throw away our future.
  5. someone on scout.com said we may be interested in Mark Ellis. I'm not sure how much this would take (this is a trade) considering we got only an A-ball pitcher for Gooch last year.
  6. On recruiting. I have talked about this in another thread, but I know people who run HS BBall events. We are having one on the 16th of FEB at Welsh Ryan Arena. It starts at 7:00. Game on is Waukegan (Richmond) vs. Oak Park River Forest (Shumpert). Game two follows that game and features E Chicago Central (IND) (Angel Garcia) vs New Trier. I believe for you guys who are interested on top talent, there are close to EIGHT DI prospects playing in these two games. Call NU's box office for tickets
  7. There is a huge weekend of HS Basketball in a little less than a week and a half. A family member is running an event at the Sears Centre on Saturday, JAN 19. Game one features Warren vs. Fenwick. (girls teams) Game two is Fenwick vs. Jacobs (boys). Game three is a top 10 state-wide matchup with Batavia vs Marshall. (Boys) There are around 7 division one prospects playing. I believe tickets are $10 for kids and $12 for adults. All of this starts at 4:30 PM.
  8. He was once one of the top 5 prospects in all of baseball. Only injuries have slowed his career.
  9. This shocks me. What doesn't shock me is the fact that this is happening OVER AND OVER to athletes. They have to quit hanging out in the old "hood". "Keeping it real" can also be "keeping it stupid." ps-I am not trying to diminish what happened here, just trying to get across the point that when you're a famous athlete w/ $$$$, be careful who/where you hang out.
  10. what are the forum dedicated to exactly? I see similar things posted in both Palehose and Trade winds. Sorry for irritating others, but I've been coming here like a week.
  11. 4/46 mil. Now I am THRILLED with Linebrink's deal!!!!!!!
  12. It's MORONOTTI. just thought I should clear things up..... he is a clown. worst writer in America. he hates the Sox. Nothing the Sox do will ever please him.
  13. this was my bad. I never should have done this
  14. the problem with ANYONE trading for Uribe is that his offense is produced by the ballparks he played in (Coors, USCell) he hit around .200 with 5 HR's on the road last year. And it doesn't help that sometimes he gets overweight.
  15. Reportedly, the Rangers have offered him a 6-year deal.
  16. I think this trade is better than some think. The Angel fans on scout.com are p!ssed, just like us. We are mad b/c we are losing a liked player, and so are they. This is a small salary dump (about $3M) and that can be spent elsewhere. This also gives us the flexibility to trade Uribe. An insider on Yahoo.com said Garland is a #3 starter (maybe on a GOOD team-sorry no link). I think some of us here may be overrating Garland. Also, don't forget the winter meetings have yet to happen
  17. How many of you think this is a part of a bigger deal? There are some good parts to this deal. It frees up $3M, (for Torii) improves team speed, contact hitting, and defense. It also makes the bench better, along with giving us a #2 hitter. I like this guy. He doesn't get much pub b/c he has always play on either the west coast or in Montreal (except for a few months in BOS). He is a HUGE upgrade over Uribe. Don't forget, Garland isn't Johan Santana. He has yet to give anyone 2 good halves of a season. Such as last year, when he was good in the 1st and bad in the second and vice versa in 2006. Even in 2005, his 2nd half wasn't terrific. I'm sure KW didn't WANT to deal him, but do any of you think Contreras was really an option here? ps I hope this is a part of a larger deal, because right now our staff SUCKS!!!!!!
  18. per espn 1000-Sox may offer Hunter 5 years-13 to 14 mil per year
  19. Of the meeting between KW and Hunter today?
  20. Although I have never sent anything to a Sox player, my uncle sent a letter to Robin Ventura's agent to sign a picture of himself for me. I got it with my name on it, and happy birthday. Of course though, my uncle knew his agent from a book he wrote so I don't know how good of an idea this is.
  21. Andruw Jones I believe is our 3rd option. Just due to career stats, he will demand a TON of $$$$$. Plus Boras is his agent. And he has a lot of wear on his tires.
