QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) bobby abreu If it was 2008, by all means, right now? No thanks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) The only way KW throws in a player is if the Dodgers throw in money. He'd be happy to claim him, and the Dodgers flat out don't want or need him right now. They need the $4 million more. If they're going to threaten to pull him back to get a legit player out of us, then we don't need him that badly. Agreed, however I do not understand, what are the Dodgers waiting for?

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Acquiring Ramirez isn't just claiming him. Once Manny is claimed, there still must be a deal worked out. Considering Ramirez will be a Type A free agent who will probably get at least a two-year deal somewhere if he decides to play next season, the Dodgers would likely offer him arbitration (unless the risk of him accepting the offer is one the club is simply unwilling to take) and recoup a supplemental first-round pick plus either a first- or second-round pick if he were to sign elsewhere. They'll expect a trade offer that beats the promise of two first-round picks, and won't trade him if they can't get it. I see Dodgers just letting him go, as he already said this is his last season in LA. Manny won't be playing for the Dodgers in 2011. Dodgers being out of it do not need Manny Ramirez and his salary. KW won't give up prospect to get Manny, maybe a low level throw in, IMHO.

Apparently Dodgers did not put Manny on waivers again today. The wait continues.

Another thing worth noting is that we're not sure how many of 'calf injuries' were real injuries or just Manny not wanting to play in LA anymore.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) The good news is that's excellent production, the bad news is he's managed fewer at bats this season than Thome. I won't like having a known juicer on the team and I'll feel compelled to make that opinion known annoyingly and repeatedly, but I'll find a way to deal with it. Hey at least you'll dislike someone more than Edwin Jackson (trade)

Before his stop on the DL , Manny's 186 ABs produced 39 RBI, 8HR and .317. That works out to around 2 Kotsays. Just saying. whitesoxski from twitter.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) Why bother with Damon, this team is done anyways. The team is not done until they are eliminated. They were done in April/May and in the middle of June also.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Right. Which means that the only teams that could have put in a claim were Tampa Bay, Minnesota, New York, and then the NL teams. Unless he is saying that NL teams with worse records could have claimed him too, but I don't see why that's relevant. From my understanding there was only one claim placed, and it was the RedSox.

LF Manny Ramirez is expected back in the starting lineup Tuesday and Wednesday, but he won't start Thursday's day game. Ramirez returned from the disabled list Saturday after missing 33 games due to a calf injury. He went 0-3 in his first game back.

Buster Olney Jayson Stark reports that Manny Ramirez is NOT on today's waiver wire -- the first chance the Dodgers have had to place him this month.
-
White Sox clearly not interested, if both Sox claimed him, we get the dibs.
-
Buster Olney The teams that make the most sense as a fit for the Damon waiver claim: White Sox, Rangers, BOS, Rays. The Tigers could just pull him back.
-
Johnny Damon was claimed off waivers by an unknown team, just saying, so it doesn't get overlooked in the Trade Winds forum.

QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) Damon was claimed on Waivers, by an unknown team. I was gonna say I'd be thrilled if it was the Sox, but Damon is having an average season? Comerica being the reason?
-
Buster Olney Presumably, Manny Ramirez will hit the waiver wire sometime in the next 48-72 hours -- and presumably, he'll be with another team in 8 days.
-
Thanks god we have a day off Monday, and then it's time to beat up on some AL East teams. What a brutal stretch of baseball it has been, let's win the series today and gain a game on the Twinks.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 01:00 AM) Ken_Rosenthal #Dodgers activating Manny tonight. Will be in lineup. #waiverclaim #MLB about 7 hours ago ........ Went 0/3 with 2 Ks. No rehab stint like they talked about? Seems like they are rushing him back to put him on waivers by the 31st. Although at this point a Sox claim of Manny seems to be a waste. Our BP is blown out. And the DH didn't help the problem. He did a rehab stint for 2-3 days

Our bullpen pretty much drained before the second game, this night has BAD written all over it, I still think we win this one.
