QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:26 PM) Abrams playing a hell of a game for Illinois Yeah, he's going to be a very solid 4 year player. The next coach is going to inherit a pretty talented team. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) Maybe 2k5 and the others were right. The NBA is garbage. How is this non-athletic, no-skilled, 1970's ball-handling style f*** face doing this? This is like the "great" Bob Cousy in his heyday coming into today's game and dominating. Shame on the nba for allowing this nonsense. LOL... Just another PG that gets to take advantage of how the NBA is played today. I got a little crazy about this topic earlier in the thread, but I love seeing Lin prove my point. It's a pretty fun story to follow though.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 12, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) Seems Illinois is fine on offense but giving up almost 40 to a Michigan team that probably doesn't belong in the top 25 is not good. Shooting 38.9% from the field isn't all that great. Offensive rebounds were the only reason the illini were able to not lose by 30 or so. The team is playing poorly defensively and inefficiently offensively. It looks pretty clear that there will be a coaching change at the season's end, unless the illini go on a ridiculous run. -

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Keep feeding Meyers like you did the first half and it's a close game. The kid is a beast and your team wants to shoot jumpshots all day. Paul and Leonard go to the hoop everytime, it's a down to the wire game. Indiana took it to the rack everytime and were hammered nearly everytime. How am I crying? It's a legitimate question. If UI played a similar style I might not be complaining, but they don't, so they weren't able to shoot 40 FTs. Not once did I say that it was unfair. I was just seriously wondering what kind of defense a team is supposed to play in this type of game against a team like IU. -

First time in a while that I'm not actually angry with the team or Weber after a loss. Not quite sure how you guard a team like IU when the calls are like this. They have the shooters to beat a zone. What kind of defense are you supposed to play? -

Leonard not trying on D because of the four fouls. Maybe it's time to take him out. IU is just getting uncontested shots now. -

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 08:36 PM) Indiana is driving it everytime, while the Illini settle for jumpshots with a beast in the middle... what do you think is going to happen? I didn't think they would this many more FTs. I realize that Illinois is a jumpshooting team and IU is driving more, thus I expected IU to shoot more FTs, but the discrepancy is a little more than I expected. Meh, life on the road in B1G. -

IU is going to shoot over 30 FTs probably. I knew it would be bad, but I guess I wasn't expecting it to be THIS bad. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) Wheres Bertrand? He was in early foul trouble. 3 fouls in the first half.... Also don't really know how that last play was a foul, but I won't start complaining now. -

Abrams getting hurt was the turning point. He was playing really, really well. Now we have Sam out there. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 08:36 AM) Don't be so sensitive. NCAA appearances are fine but how many Final Fours in that string? 1? How many trips to Sweet 16? Littlehurt laid it out where it makes sense. Not sensitive. Posting from my phone, so it's difficult to say things the way I'd like. I never tried to say the illini were elite, but a bubble team, when the making the tournament was pretty much the norm, is unacceptable. I just didn't see why you would question the whole pressure thing. Theres almost always more pressure when you coach at a BCS conference program instead of an MVC school. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 03:56 AM) I'm not asking this to be an ass, but what kind of pressure is their at Illinois that there isn't at another school? It's not like Illinois is some national powerhouse. They are a middle of the road/stepping stone type program that occassionally succeeds and makes the tournament but doesn't do it consistently. I understand that Illini fans want and expect more, but I don't really think there is pressure of the Illinois job. The illini are tied for 11th for overall ncaa tournament appearances. They also have the 13th most wins in NCAA history. Pretty good for a "middle of the road" program. Illinois is a basketball school in a power conference and has a decent amount of success recently. They won I think 4 straight big ten titles from 01-05. Now we are perennially a bubble team. I don't see whats so hard to understand here. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 5, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) Weber should be fired today. Let McClain take over and try to salvage the season. If Mike Thomas doesn't fire Weber after the season I want him gone already at well. There is literally no reason for Weber to be coaching after this season. The talent differential in the game today was remarkable, Illinois scored at will and still lost to Northwestern at home. Thanks for your first three years now GTFO Weber. The problem is money. Thomas just had to fire Zook and had to pay the buyout (although I heard a booster covered a lot of it). I just have to imagine that it would be hard to fire both coaches in the same year. I hope to God it happens though. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) To me, it's cause the point guards in college basketball freaking suck. Jordan Taylor has been underwhelming this year, and two of the top freshman pg coming in (Teague and Kbongo) have been very disappointing. I said it earlier this year, but if I had to draft a pg for my college team, it would be Pierre Jackson. I think both could go hand in hand somewhat. There aren't too many people that play a true point guard position. Teague plays like a combo guard. Kabongo is more of a true point type mold, but it seems like he's still adjusting to the college game. Averaging over 5 assists per game as a true freshman isn't too bad though. I personally like the Pressey kid from Mizzou a lot. His jumpshot isn't the best, but he's lighting quick and is a pretty good passer. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) I'm sure I'll get blasted by the hyperbole police, but I truly think this is the worst level of talent I've ever seen in college basketball. Hell, there's only two players in the power conferences averaging over 20 points, and I doubt many on here could guess who they are (Kevin Jones and T. Stoglin). The UCONN/Gtown game tonight was awful, and there are a handful of potential pros in that game. I think it's because basketball, in general, has deteriorated. The fundamentals of the game are lost and the NBA game (iso's) has younger players molding their game to be like a Derrick Rose, LeBron James, or Dwayne Wade. In college they seem to allow more contact than in the NBA, which makes it harder for those types of players to succeed. Shooting is more important, which is why guys like Morrison and Redick were able to pretty much dominate college basketball. The NBA changed their rules (no handcheck, crazy superstar calls, continuation) to add more offense to the game as current players just weren't skilled enough to score at a high level anymore.. I wonder if the NCAA will eventually go that way. -

So I turn on the indiana game to see the score is 28-11 with 6 minutes left in the first half. Wtf? Starting to tighten up now. Might play out like the IU @MSU game where there are lots of runs. -

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) In what way? I haven't gotten that at all. I missed most of the game, but caught the last 5 minutes or so and he called the Henry carry violation "a great call". I mean, it's a carry violation. I don't know what was so special about it. And when Brandon Paul got fouled at the end he said Paul was lucky to get the call as it was happening. Maybe it's true, but I didn't hear him say things about the Spartans. And how is it paranoia? It was just a question/observation. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) So, chances Illinois pulls off another upset of a top ten team at home? I'm going with 45%. I think it'll be close. They've split their games the last two years (home team winning). So long as Illinois plays physical they should stay in it until the end. Hopefully Maniscalco and Griffey play zero minutes. Agreed, unfortunately Sam will most likely play a ton again. The Illini are 0-3 since he's come back from injury. Coincidence? I don't think so....
