  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) Yep, Illini are going to struggle in Big Ten play! I still think it's too early to say. Paul has been pretty awful lately and the record is still 5-0. After the Maryland and Gonzaga games in the next week and a half I think we'll be able to give a better prediction on the season.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) To whom? I havent seen that story yet. ND? Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's ND.
  3. Columbus (Ind.) East five-star QB Gunner Kiel opens up his recruitment, will take a visit on Saturday. http://bit.ly/qcNJZM Well, so much for that....
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) That's true, the McCamey/Davis/Tisdale dictatorship is finally over. I guess it's just that I am tempering my expectations so much this season as compared to the past. They may be fun to watch, but I am preparing myself for an NIT berth, nothing more. If the Illini don't make the NCAA tourney with a lineup of 5th year SR, 4* Jr (Paul), 4* Jr (DJ), high 3* Jr (Griffey), and 5* So (Leonard) I will be very disappointed in Weber. Even if there are lots of question marks (Maniscalo's ankle along with the others having a lack of experience) the illini should make the tournament based on pure talent alone. The B10 will get at least 4 teams in and it is iffy years for many teams. Purdue lost Johnson and Moore and Wisconsin lost Leuer among others. I think it's 1.tOSU and then it's wide open. The illini SHOULD make the tournament.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) I really don't think so. He was out of his element in the Jets' 3-4 system as an LB and is much better suited to be a 4-3 DE with his hand on the ground. I have high hopes for him as a pass rushing specialist who could grow into a bigger role. These are NFL teams we're talking about and most 3-4 teams run 4-3 subpackages to change things up. I can assure you that Gholston has played multiple downs with his hand on the ground. If it were that simple I'm sure Rex Ryan would have utilized his talent. He has 0 sacks in his career. 0. The fact is he isn't very good at football. I hope I'm wrong. I really do. I hope Marinelli can work some magic on him and make him productive, but to excuse his lack of production based on the system he played in is naive.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) Good special teams player. But Roy Williams? He hasn't been good since 2007. He is inconsistent and has attitude problems. This signing is so meh. Mike Martz is living his career off having the best offensive talent ever assembled on one football team. He is a stubborn, relatively mediocre coach who does not adjust game plans or strategy based on opponents nor his own team's talent level. I think it's interesting to note that the two years Roy Williams played under Martz's system he had his two best seasons. By far. 1300 yards one season and 800+ yards the next (in 12 games). This with an old Jon Kitna throwing him the ball. I'm not saying this deal is the best, but he's the big type of receiver that most people wanted the Bears to target. I don't mind the signing based on his upside and the fact that Martz has shown the ability to get production out of him in the past.
  7. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) uhhh no hes not. an argument could be made for either but certainly not without question. Just wondering what argument can be made in Verlander's case... I mean, he obviously had a better year than Peavy this year, but that's because Peavy missed a substantial amount of time. 4 out of the last 6 seasons Peavy has had a better ERA+ than Verlander had this year and this was Verlander's best year of his career.
  8. Illini just got commitments from Hawthorne and Hopkins out of East St. Louis... Hawthorne is a 4 star WR and Hopkins has a ton of upside. This also looks good in terrms of Illinois getting Appleton.
