QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) I'm not sure the Giants would part with any kind of ring Barry Bonds used to put around his wood. Maybe Hahn gets a duffelbag (sp?) of clearance items from the SF tourism office. Few bumper stickers, lots of pamphlets, a couple t-shirts, definitely a Golden Gate bridge keychain or 2, etc. Maybe they even make him a custom t-shirt that says "I traded Gordon Beckham to San Francisco and all I got was this T-shirt..." and then on the back it says "Steal!" "I left my Gordo in San Francisco"

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 1m Told that Danks will take mound for #WhiteSox in Detroit at 1:08 p.m. ET. One phone could change everything, but that is the plan.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 07:36 AM) I wonder how strongly the Sox are interested in Yasmani Tomas the 23 yr old Cuban outfielder who some compare to Dayan Viciedo. He won't be as inexpensive though. Estimates range in the $30-40M range anywhere from 4-7 yrs. Given the success of Cespedes, Abreu, & Puig, I think these players from Cuba may start getting extremely overpaid, so I think you have to careful and certain that a player will be good enough for MLB.

I'm a Pole, was somebody looking for me?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) Trout Cabrera will win it this year because he's putting up his regular numbers and is on the 2nd best team on baseball. If we switched records with LA Detroit, Abreu Trout would be the favorite. Fixed for 2012 & 2013

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) Going to have to go back to the cadavers and figure this one out. I don't know how it works with this injury. Was this tear inevitable and possibly prolonged by the down time or is it more of a random occurence?

Gillaspie almost qualified for batting title race

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) And lots of people wanted to just hand the opening day 3B job to Davidson and DFA Gillaspie. Even still I'd say a majority of people would say the 2 biggest revelations of the season are Abreu (obviously) and Eaton though Gillaspie has contributed more. Because of Eaton's higher grindiness quotient? Given Eaton's hype as a top-100 prospect once and what he was traded for, I think the expectations were higher than him. People may have been cautious but they were excited. No one expected this much from Gillaspie. -
I guess Corey Kluber is for real, huh. Wow.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) Wouldn't shock me at all if tonight's outcome impacts things. Hawk talked about a similar situation a few years ago that resulted in KW not making a particular trade cause the Sox won a game before deadline I see Hahn as less likely to make a rash decision like that than KW, but it's a good reminder that Noesi and Carroll are both in your rotation. Great stories, but not part of a playoff pitching staff

Guess it's officially time for Rick to sell?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) Well, considering we've always wanted to avoid paying relievers in arbitration since the Jenks years...and we're not even sure if he is going to be capable of being a high-quality 7th and 8th inning set-up guy in 2016, I'd say it's an interesting decision. Since the White Sox have adopted the philosophy that they can turn someone else's junk (Guerra, Noesi, Carroll, Belisario, Putnam, Cleto, Boggs, H.Rodriguez) into a bullpen piece, I'd say it's 50/50 at best they keep him. If he was left-handed and this was Matt Thornton after his first couple of seasons with the Sox, there would be no question about it. Otoh, Nate came up with the White Sox through our system, so there's going to be more of a likelihood to be "loyal." That said, baseball is a business and it's not only a UCL, it's the back issue, which we don't know a whole lot about. Can we be 100% sure his mechanics weren't/aren't going to be thrown off in the future compensating for back issues and putting undue stress on another part of the body. That's basically what happened with the Marlins' young ace, unfortunately. Zero career saves, 3.55 ERA in two seasons plus five total batters in 2014, gonna miss most of 2015. I've never been in an arbitration meeting, but I can't imagine his asking price being too high.

Colleen Kane from the Tribune tweeted it as well, says he had an UCL tear

Is this coming out of nowhere or did I miss the memo?

Cubs trade for Felix Doubront. Standard Theo buy very low move

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) The fact that abovethelaw.com is not about the Steven Seagal movie makes me sad. I feel bad for all the youngsters that may never experience a Steven Seagal action flick

QUOTE (bulokis @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Can we still trade Kevin Hayes? It appears he wil not sgn. Not gonna lie, I don't know one Hayes from another. Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) He also has missed several starts. That's true. I guess if he stays at this pace, he would probably have the same value had he made every start pitching like the projections had him. (I wasn't trying to automatically shoot down Robin, just looking at both sides of the projections) -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) Here is ZIPS player projections http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-zips-p...cago-white-sox/ So not at all. They predicted him to pitch the same as 2012-13 and be a great pitcher. Instead he's become on of the top 3 pitchers in all of baseball. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) I will say the changes in Miguel Cabrera are interesting, since he was brought up. He had by far his best power years with Prince hitting behind him. Prince left, and he is having his worst year in half of a decade. Victor Martinez is having a better season than Prince ever had in Detroit, so there is still "protection" there. Miggy's home runs increased with Prince behind him, but his OPS was lower and he slugged higher in 2010 than 2012, so it wasn't that dramatic of a change with Prince.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) It's pretty complex to try and take apart in any meaningful way, but I doubt PECOTA had Abreu where he is right now. Did PECOTA even have Sale where he is right now? -

Yu Darvish is kinda awesome. Brett Gardner is 5 for 11 against him with four homers, including two yesterday. Yu's response? "I just blame the parents of Brett Gardner. I just blame them for creating a great hitter.''
