QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) I'm moving to Southport (just west of Wrigleyville) this month, seems to be a solid area and rent really isn't much more for what you get. I currently live in Rogers Park and pay about $600 for my portion for a much smaller apartment, whereas I'll be paying $850 in Southport. And yea, avoid the frat havens every time, but plenty of good places still out there. The biggest thing for me is just being closer to all my college friends so I can more easily hang out with them because right now it takes about 45-60 minutes to get to them (I live about 15-20 mins from the red line currently). So playing basketball, watching games, etc will be much easier. Southport is solid, it's funny how different it is just a few blocks away from Wrigleyville. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) Definitely look into the west loop, especially if you're working in the loop. It's really a great area, without the wrigleyville douche-yness. Just depends what you are looking for. Are people under the age of 25 even allowed to live in the West Loop?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) Indiana's tax caps prevent the taxes on your primary residence from going above 1% of your property value. If you have a $150k house, you can't pay above $1500 annually for property taxes. Wow, that would be nice. I pay at least 2-2.5% on my properties now.

If you discount Ubaldo Jimenez's worst 4 starts, his ERA is 3.19. If you discount Jeremy Guthrie's worst 4 starts, his ERA is 3.38. There are some really good starters in the AL!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) For a guy who complains when he thinks pitching moves are being based on ERA, you sure do mention ERA a lot. What I mentioned is take the 4 starts out of 21 where Danks got pummeled and gave up 7 or 8 runs. His other 17 starts , which include a couple of non quality starts produces an ERA of 2.89. His 4 worst games he allowed 28 runs in 19 innings. His other 112 innings, 36 ER. You can give me xFip SIERRA all that crap. What matters in the end is runs, and Danks usually does OK with that. When they hand out the trophy at the end of the year, you can't use a challenge and have them look at the xFIP replay. If you take out 20% of Tyler Flowers at-bats all where he made an out, you are looking at a .300 hitter.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) A lot of GMs and managers would rather have 5 guys who are predictable than 5 guys who might put up zeros... or might go 2 innings and give up 7 runs. Its a lot easier to plan/build and offense and bullpen when you know exactly what your rotation is going to give you. Which is why Edwin Jackson is now on his 8th different team.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) I have some news for you, there are plenty of girls and bars ... EVERYWHERE. Of course there are. And not all bars are the same nor do they all attract the same clientele.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:59 AM) I'm pretty flexible because my favorite two past times are getting drunk and striking out with women, and you can do that pretty much anywhere. I'm not much of a fan of the hipster scene personally. I do work in the loop, so those options might be pretty nice. Thanks for the replies, guys. At your age I'd say Wrigleyville or Lincoln Park would work well too party-wise, but they might be a bit pricier than the West/South Loop. Either location gives you easy CTA access to work.

Anybody know what his GPx99+ is? Gotta be up over 90% right?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) The difference between Eaton and Quentin is that Eaton has very little injury background. He had a torn UCL last year and a pulled hamstring this year. That's it for his injury history. He just seems like a player who is at high risk for injury. All speed players will have people talking about hamstring health because a slight problem can become a big one for them - look at, for instance, Scott Podsednik in the second half of 2005. I'm going to judge Eaton on the games that he misses due to injury, not the little annoyances that will be over-scrutinized because he's a small speed player who people fear will get hurt. I think it's also his over-aggressiveness and willing to dive after every ball or crash into outfield walls, which may make him more susceptible to injury.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 1h The #Cubs have zero interest in trading for #Rays David Price now, #Cubs executive says, wanting to hang onto their prized prospects. In the past I was convinced trading for Price was a no-brainer, but now I don't think it makes sense. It's not like he will give them some big discount on an extension when he is this close to free agency. You are better off saving the prospects and paying him big money two summers from now, as opposed to giving up players and spending the money. That being said, I wouldn't be upset if they signed Lester this offseason. He is older and by the time they are competitive, he should likely be in decline.

Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?

Back in April did anyone think that the board would freak out because Moises Sierra wasn't used as a pinch hitter with the game on the line? -
Too pretty/too much of a distraction for vb team

Haha, that's classic.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) and he took 30 seconds to get around the bases. but I'm sure he'll claim to be the victim next time he gets beaned. How dare you talk badly about Boston's Derek Jeter!!! QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...ees-game-in-new Kinda strange Like Jeff Passan hinted at, that's kind of a "f*** you, trade me" move by Tulo.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) 4-15 with Nieto as the starter....Really don't know what to think of it. Tyler, before the last 2 weeks, has been dreadful offensively so it's not like they were missing his bat. But ya it is indeed true. Tyler is the good luck charm. Not once has Nieto caught Sale or Quintana, so that plays a major part in those stats.

No, Ron Washington is -
Maintaining a .995 OPS over 15 years is mighty impressive.

In spite of KyYlE's absence, do we dare say the "s" word this afternoon?

Chris Sale is not human. That's the only explanation.

I bet Peavy does well in San Francisco, as long as they don't face Detroit in the Series.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) I woulda been OK with him coming back, but he would have really added to lack of team speed. We still have a lot of slow guys. Adding AJ would have been a really slow guy. I can't imagine Flowers is any quicker than him though. That's who he would have replaced.
