QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 10, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Hmmm...so who could it be? What might his screen name be? SOXOBAMA, duh. No need for him to be secretive or humble.

Sounds like Kaner is trying to live up to Bobby Hull's legacy, both on & off the ice.

Kaner!!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2012 -> 12:08 PM) If you have a local florist, cut out the middle man, and use them. Keep the money local. Now I only use Addison/Ashland florist. Several locations around the city and no problems at all yet.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 10, 2012 -> 11:33 AM) When I have used 1800FLOWERS they have been great. Use local shops. Don't know anything about PROFLOWERS. The one time I used 1800FLOWERS the flowers came in a box and half were dead.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2012 -> 11:15 AM) The biggest problem is the Hawks were cap-f***ed after the win. They are still in an awful cap position. I never thought I would say this, but they really missed Soupy this year. I thought they would miss Soupy some, but I figured the multiple players his salary would buy would make up for it. But Brunette was too old & Montador's head fell off. They really need him to get healthy & contribute, because that's $2.75 million per year until 2015. Frolik expanding his playoff success this year would be huge too, although doubtful.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2012 -> 03:04 AM) Dunn, Strasburg, Peavy, Kendrys Morales (out for nearly 2 years), Joe Mauer, Joe Nathan, Buster Posey, Jason Heyward, Johan Sebastian Santana, Jamie Moyer There is a separate award for AL & NL. Peavy did make 19 starts last year, although they were below average, so might not be as much of a "comeback". Morales could be tough competition for Dunn, since he missed 1.5 seasons with that horrible injury, depends how well he hits all year. Joe Nathan? He pitched 48 games last year w/ 14 saves. No chance. Mauer is putting up the exact same numbers as he did in his 82 games last year. Plus I'm sure he gets hurt again.

Collective anger against Beckham/Morel/Dunn/Rios thread

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) I think it's safe to say Dunn is back and last year was some sick aberration. He has 10 home runs. I don't know if it was him getting used to AL or DH or the weight issue, but he's recovered. Congrats to those of you who stood by him and did not ridicule him or call him a bum as some of us did. No need to apologize greg. The 'bum' name calling was warranted, and I bet he would have told you the same thing last year, he was awful. That being said, he is back and fun to watch. In today's age of pitching, defense, & diminished power, it's still fun to see a guy go up there swinging for the fences in every at-bat. -
JFP!!! DUNN! After all the b****ing & moaning on Monday, still salvaged a 4-game split.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 9, 2012 -> 08:33 PM) Bryan LaHair has a .500 BABIP. Yes, 50% of the balls he hits in play go for hits. That's unsustainable and incredibly interesting. Do any SABR heads know what the highest BABIP sustained over a full season is? Not sure if any historical SABR records like that are kept. (Obviously it won't go back that long in history)

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 9, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) thanks. yeah i auditioned yesterday for the casting director, got the call today, and am going in again tomorrow to audition for the executive producer/lead writer/creator Terence Winter very small part - a paraplegic WW1 vet - but damn if that wouldn't be awesome. Good luck man, that would be sweet!

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
LittleHurt05 replied to DukeNukeEm's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Jake @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) article was a bit tl;dr, is he expected to be healthy(ish) next year? The article says he is sitting out 2012-13, and hopes to sign with a team after that. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) What happened to that vaunted Braves' offense? Guess good pitching always wins out over hitting that has feasted mostly on average pitching so far this year. Their hitting coach's teachings apparently don't work in the city of Chicago.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Sox were scheduled to face J. Sanchez on Sunday. DKnobler DKnobler @DKnobler Royals announce Jonathan Sanchez on DL, biceps tendinitis. Giavotella called up. Bummer, Sanchez sucks. Who are we facing instead?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) Threads on Soxtalk have more curves than Kate Upton. That is all. Any thread that gets a Kate Upton mention is a good thread!

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) But you said treating them like "animals." That is pretty harsh to me. If you stand by that wording, I stand by my responses. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) Sub-human or less-than-equal to men. Thank you. That's what I meant.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) 3.) No, he worded how they feel about women pretty strongly. That they should be treated like animals. I think they takes away the fact they might be "intelligent" and puts them in cretan category. Don't you? I mean if you think a woman should be treated as an "animal" you are not intelligent. Right? Maybe your religion says to treat women equally, but the faith they have known since birth tells them differently. Who are you to say that yours is right and theirs is wrong? They would probably call you a cretan for letting a woman make a decision for you in your life. It's the only thing they know.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 9, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) Or if he proves that he's healthy and good, you've got a 3B for next year. And Thornton is really not that good of a trade chip. A 34 year old 3B making $13 million next year? That's not gonna happen on the South Side.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 9, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) And for the anti-rebuild guys, you get a recognizable name that will boost revenue. Youk sported an OPS well over .900 in '10. He doesn't hurt you defensively at 3B. And he boots one of the worst players in baseball sans one fluke month the last year+. While only playing 102 games in '10. OPS was down to .833 last year in only 120 games. He's missed half the games his year with a .635 OPS. I realize that Morel is bad at baseball and I am sick of him too. But Thornton still has trade value and I don't see how dumping him for an aging, injured player who won't be around in 2013 makes any sense right now. It sounds like the type of move everyone wants KW fired for in the first place.
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 9, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) It would still be a good trade for the White Sox, in my opinion. I disagree. Youkilis is old and falling apart, what good does he do you this season? Paying him $13 million next year would just be dumb. I'd rather not trade Thornton for an injured washed up ballplayer, I thought everyone wanted to rebuild? This would be the complete opposite.

I had to check the calender to see if someone was playing an April Fools joke.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2012 -> 10:26 PM) What intelligent people believe that? I'd call them cretans, not intelligent. They would say the same thing about you. There are doctors, engineers, scientists, etc. that feel that way about women because of their religion, yet I wouldn't call them unintelligent.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 8, 2012 -> 10:52 PM) The Carlos Beltran signing is looking like by far the best of the off-season. I want to be like the Cardinals. They way they plug in no-names from the minors and sign old FAs who come in & produce is outstanding. Nobody wanted Berkman last year & the market for Beltran wasn't exactly huge. Lose Adam Wainwright for the year? No prob, we will win the WS anyway. Lose Chris Carpenter? No prob, Lynn, Lohse, & Westbrook will keep their ERA under 2.50.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) One thing I'll credit the Cubs coaching under Sveum is that they put on some extreme shifts. From the games I've watched, they've really benefited from this. The shift saved them the game on Monday. Freeman crushed a line drive up the middle vs Marmol, but Castro happened to be standing right there.
