QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) What's the worse that can happen? They keep losing? I get your point, I just don't see it working as well when dealing with college kids, as opposed to a pro team. Unless you plan on hiring Howard next year (hope not) -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) Not even close. The Bears were missing their two best players. The Hawks slide has been at 100% Well, I did say: QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 11:33 AM) But at least the Bears had a thumb to blame, there is no excuse for the Hawks. If the Hawks slide their way out of the playoffs, then yeah it will be worse. I realize how much was Hanie's fault, but the Tebow game & vs the Chiefs had some major breakdowns by the rest of the team too.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) So, if Illinois loses to Purdue at home tonight, grounds to fire Weber? 7 losses in the last 8 games? No way he gets fired before the end of the season. I don't see much of a point in letting Howard or someone else coach the last 5 games. Did you see this quote? Are you f***ing kidding me? 1. That was a foul. His arms were slanted down on top of him, making contact while the ball was being released. 2. Even if that wasn't a foul, the fact that your players put themselves in that position should make it count as a loss anyway. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) This might be the worst collapse I've ever seen from my of "my" teams. After how great they started, I am incredibly dejected. It's BAD. Taking into account the length of the season, the Bears collapse this year was still worse. The Hawks could still turn it around and make the playoffs. But at least the Bears had a thumb to blame, there is no excuse for the Hawks. Now they get to visit the best & hottest team in hockey in the Garden. Counting that as a loss, if they can't beat Columbus on Saturday, then I think Q needs to go. Make a change as you head back home for the national TV game vs. STL, then the Wings two nights later.

Rumor? - Cubs deny consider playing at the Cell for 2013

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) However, there is some risk. I know that it hard to imagine but what if the Cubs have a miracle season that year and make the playoffs. Do we really want Cubs playoff games at the Cell? That would make me sick. If I was guaranteed that the Cubs would be in last place that year and lose the majority of their games at the Cell...and we make money off of it..then I am 'All In'. I don't know, I think it would be kind of funny if the Cubs broke the curse at the Cell, not at Wrigley. They have this moment they have been waiting 100+ years for, and it happens at the Cell. If the Sox hadn't won in '05, then it would bother me, but otherwise it be amusing IMO. -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) For anyone complaining...just repeat after me... 500 thousand 500 thousand 500 thousand The Sox have players making WAY more that haven't earned a penny of it. (OK, maybe a penny) This is a low risk, whatever reward you can get out of him move. It's not exciting...but it's not bad. I thought it was a million?

What was that Floyd Mayweather? Lin is doing stuff tons of other players in the league have done??? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) The sad thing is, I think in a full, normal, regular season, the Bulls are a 45ish win team without Rose. That still gets you the 5 or 6 seed in the East most years. That's not bad for a team whose best player would be Luol Deng. -

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) it depends if ricketts give his season ticket holders "holiday" from thier commitment. the bears allowed their season ticket base a year off when they played in champaign, while selling season ticket plans for the champaign season only. In fact, illini students were allowed to buy DISCOUNTED st plans that season. if ricketts dosent force his ST holders to buy in on a season at the cell, then the PAID attendance will suck. but with a waiting list 10k strong, i think he will make them buy in. Bears season tickets at $20/game, living 3 blocks away from the stadium. Too bad Leon Johnson fumbled away that Saints game and the season went to s*** -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) That is pretty commonplace for the Chicago suburbs, for a good place. Ours is in that territory, I think it was actually $400 a week to start, and goes down with each level, until $350 for pre-school. Our daughter just turned 3 and just moved up to preschool, she'll be in there another 2.5 years before starting kindergarten at the elementary school. Now we have another due in June, so for about 2 years, our day care expenses will be about $700 a week (they do a small discount for multiple kids). That is $36,400 a year for that two years. Each kid, when they get to kindergarten, will have cost in day care tuition... $107,280. Oh my god. I hadn't done that math until just now. ho. le. s***. Thank god we moved somewhere that the public schools are excellent, so we can have a 13 year pause in paying school tuition. Then there's college. Also worth noting, you can get cheaper than this. Or, amazingly, more expensive. We picked the place we thought was best, it happened to be the 2nd highest of the four we looked at. ALL of them were pricey, and we thought it was silly to shave off the last ten or twenty bucks a week for a lesser education. Honest to God, I had not done that complete math until just now. Unbelievable. Thanks guys. First thing I say to my wife tonight at dinner, "Changed my mind, no kids. Just another dog."

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) Yeah, but franchise goaltenders don't grow on trees. Just look at the teams that are winning. This f***ing rotating goaltenders crap is catching up to us. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/4432 Wish we would have let Hammer go instead of Niemi, but I guess hindsight is 20/20 (hell, I was on here hyping up Marty f***ing Turco for Christ's sake. The Hawks need to address the goaltending situation at some point. Oh, and f*** Kaner. I was definitely in the keep Hammer, let Niemi go crowd. I never thought Niemi was a fluke, but I figured he was easier to replace than a young improving D-man. (As the Red Wings usually did, or so the media said) Niemi won the Sharks series that season, but they won the Cup cause the team was so damn good and deep. Last year Crawford looked like he would be good enough, especially after that Canucks series. Not sure what's going with him, although the defensive breakdowns can't be helping.

Bruce Miles @BruceMiles2112 Hearing that Soler to #Cubs a long way from being done. A good number of teams still have serious interest. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) I like it. For the price, especially. If Rios or DeAza bomb, he could be a replacement. Side note: How is his speed on the basepads? Declining, especially in regards to stolen bases. 2008: 12 SB, 4 CS 2009: 6 SB, 10 CS 2010: 7 SB, 8 CS 2011: 2 SB, 4 CS

Typical KW. When he wants a player, he gets him, even if it's 4 or 5 years later.

I would be interested to see what the attendance figures would look like away from Wrigleyville, especially if it's a Cubs team that's still rebuilding. All the Cubs fans that love to use their attendance in Cubs/Sox arguments would have to put up or shut up. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) Ours will be 375/week Is that daycare or a nanny? My wife has already said that when the baby is still in its first year, she'd much rather have a full-time nanny than to stick the kid in a day-care with multiple kids taking away attention. But that's 40+ hours * $8-10/hour = NO BUENO.

QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:33 AM) No Jose Valentin scouting report would be complete without mentioning that Juan Uribe caliber, absolutely howitzer of an arm. Good base runner too with good technique and instincts, despite just above average speed. Loved his tools, hard-nosedness, and of course the stache under that hard-nose. One of my favorite players of that era. Just took another look at his stats. I think people forget about just how much pop he had for a shortstop -- 249 career HRs; 25, 28, 25, 28, 30 in his five years with the Sox of the non-Carmine variety. Of course, he started out with a .273 BA in his first year and we watched it decline by 10-20 points each and every year of his tenure. But, OMG that iron glove. And it certainly SEEMS from hindsight that those doinks would invariably happen late inning in true game situations (of course, with the pure number of E's, some would had to have happened then). Happy Valentin's Day to all Sox fans! Unfortunately, this game is one of my lasting memories of Valentin. Pedro was being Pedro, but Mike Sirotka hung in there but lost 1-0 because Jose threw a routine grounder over Paulie's head.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) The money is obviously guaranteed. I just didn't understand your minor league war comment. It's not like in 4 years he's a FA again. He's Cubs property for a while. Everybody knew he wasn't ready for the majors right now. If he takes 3 years to get to the majors, then my point is you are paying him $20 million to play in the minor leagues. I don't fully understand the service time, but from what I do understand, it means he is arbitration eligible for the six seasons after he starts playing big league ball. If he does reach arbitration, there is no way they gave him a pay decrease right? So that means you will be paying him minimum $7 million a season when he does reach the majors, or is that wrong? He might become a great MLB player, or he may never make it to the show, either way it's a lot of money to risk. -
