  1. And yep, looks like a straight cash deal. Sorry for the false alarm.
  2. The "is in a potential deal" makes me think its bigger than just a Rule 5 trade with cash.
  3. Hahn has already said they aren't looking for short term fixes. They are not going to trade for someone with one year of control when they know they won't be competing next year. They're much more likely to sign a Brantley or a Pollock IMO before they would trade for Puig.
  4. They are not going to trade for Puig when he's a FA next year. Regardless if Harper ends up on the Dodgers.
  5. Regardless if the Dodgers or Cubs dump salary to get Harper, the Sox can outbid anyone if they really want to. If he wants the most cash then he'll be here.
  6. Problem is what they're leaking to Nightengale and what they're saying in interviews give two very different ideas of the pursuit.
  7. The Dodgers nugget in there still scares me. I hope the Reds stick to their guns and insist on sending Homer Bailey back.
  8. I'd like to take it at face because I think its a positive thing if we haven't offered anything yet. But ya know, Nightengale.
  9. I would be surprised if it happened in the next two weeks, let alone tonight. I would really like it if it happened tonight though. Assuming it’s us.
  10. This is going to sound ignorant but If I were a GM of one of these teams that tried to dump salary to sign a big time player I would never do it. It just a bailing out their bad contracts and allowing the same teams to get better. What’s the benefit?
  11. Their projected payroll right now is about $195 mil. If they want to make a competitive offer for Harper (assuming no other additions) I think they need to clear about $20 mil. The Cubs would need to clear about $30 mil considering they're still looking at relievers and might need someone for 2b.
  12. Think it would be Kemp or Puig and Wood. Still would be a wash though. I don't know who the Cubs could get to take Heyward or Chatwood without eating a significant chunk of salary.
  13. Saw Rosenthal mention Dodgers still trying to dump salary to the Reds but the Reds are insisting Homer Bailey go back. If that's the case that's more of a wash than a salary dump. I'm hoping the Cubs and Dodgers are going to have a very difficult time finding a partner.
