What is the obsession with Puig? I’ve seen so many Sox fans putting out hypothetical trades for him. He’s a FA after this year and comes with some baggage. There’s no reason they would trade for him.

In Olney's article here he says he has a well-placed source that says while the Sox are pursuing both players they have no interest in signing either to a "record-breaking" contract and that their pursuit is "measured and modest." Says they're working within "conventional financial bounds." Would quote it here but its an insider article. Really hoping its a plant piece, they cannot be stupid enough to think they can sign either of these guys to anything less than record-breaking.

If the Sox land one of these guys, it makes this a much more attractive free agents destination than it currently is. They know it and they're pulling out all the stops on it.
