2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Voting for the MVP in the NBA is easy but people make it difficult for no reason. The best player in the NBA (and really all sports) is also the most valuable player (as long as he doesn't miss a bunch of games). It really isn't even debatable that James is the most valuable player in the NBA right now and will be for the foreseeable future. This is the case in almost every sport. People tend to bring dependent variables into the discussion when determining the best talent, but that should be an individual evaluation. I don't think the player's surrounding situation should dictate how valuable he is. I tend to ask myself, "if Derrick Rose played for team B, how good would he be?". The answer is that he'd still be pretty damn good, but not LeBron James kind of good. I also get tired of people saying how Rajon Rondo is the best PG in the game because he dishes out 14 assists per game. That's like saying Ryan Howard is MVP because he drives in 140 runs every year. If you look at the situations those players are in, none of the two previous statements make a great deal of sense.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) If that was the case the award would be named different, valuable and best are not the same. It depends on your perception of value. IMO, a player's surrounding circumstances really shouldn't determine his value. A player's skillset should. In this case, there is no doubt that LBJ is the most valuable player in the NBA, in my mind at least. However, I fully understand that not everybody thinks that way, especially the people who actually vote for the MVP. If Rose gets the MVP, I'd be very happy, even though the non-Bulls fan side of me disagrees with the notion.

Remaining Free Agents
QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) Could the Sox offer Ben Sheets, I don't know, a new iPod Touch to prove he still has an elbow? I don't think I'd want two injury-prone starters on the team. If it's like a minor league deal, maybe.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) Boozer or Deng better be named an All-Star tonight, because if the Hawks and Heat have 3 apiece and the Bulls have one, something is wrong. It would most likely be Boozer. Thing is, the East forwards are gonna be filled with guys like KG and Bosh. We'll see. I wouldn't mind if Rose was the only guy, but the team with the second best record in the East should get more than just one all-star.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) Dammit I'll be glad when I reach the point in my life when I'll consider $500,000 to be NO RISK. Just think of it as 50 cents out of the White Sox' pocket.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Was Andruw Jones a minor-league deal?? I thought his deal put him on the 25-man. It was a 550k deal. It was a Major League deal, but I was just referring to the similarity in money.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Oney loves him the black guys. Real ones, whatever the f*** that means. I'm gonna assume it means he likes rap? DAMNIT ONEY! Now I must know what a "real" black guy is! +1 for Battle of the Millibridge FWIW, I think there was a running joke about how Jermaine Dye wasn't really black since Juan Uribe called him a white guy. Everybody probably just went with it.

Sox Sign Lastings Milledge to MLC
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Milledge batted .277/.332/.380 with four home runs and 32 RBI with the Pirates last season, including a .320 batting average and .926 OPS against southpaws. ^^ I say Ozzie keeps him in order and we have ourselves something the team has desperately needed for a long time. KW is awesome. We found ourselves a platoon mate for Mark Teahen I guess.

So Now That Pettitte Is Officially Done...
Unless the Sox sign another starter, I don't see how they'd have the luxury to trade one away at this point. All the decent SPs are off the market.

Looks like there will be a position battle for the 4th OFer spot.

Ozzie's recent comments
I wouldn't want to get stranded in a storm with somebody that I totally despise. 1) It'd be awkward and 2) if you hate him, he probably did something bad to you before this anyhow.

2011 Twins talent vs. White Sox talent
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Yeah Dick and Bert are pretty awful. They were talking about Delmon Young as an MVP candidate last year. Atleast stories about golf and b****ing about the umpiring crew don't involve blatant homerism like that. If it were up to Hawk, Carlos Gomez might have gotten an MVP at some point.
