  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) So I should burn my 05 gear of those two stiffs? I don't have their jerseys. I publicly will now express my disdain about them. If they cheated, they deserve a lot of scorn. I don't like them for cheating. Do I approve of them cheating? No. I never said we should give up the WS trophy if anybody cheated. I was kidding about giving up the World Series thing, that's why there's a "oh noes" behind that.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) I don't even have to get involved in this one. This was not a good example on the cheating topic. You are gonna get owned on this one.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Does your first line even deserve a comment? AJ cheated? Why shouldn't the first line deserve a comment? Those two got caught for steroids, just like Manny.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Cheating would be if AJ knocked the ball out of Paul's glove and then pretended he didn't. Or struck out and pretended he didn't...
  5. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) No you can't. Well, you could say it but you would be absolutely wrong. There was no overwhelming evidence either way about that call. But you can definitely argue either way and still have a legit point about it. So no, you wouldn't be absolutely wrong. I was just making a point. Cheating in sports is everywhere. Rejecting somebody because they cheated one way or another while rooting for another person who cheated, or is cheating is contradictory.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Does your first line even deserve a comment? AJ cheated? We can be semi-objective when we look at the dropped third strike controversy can't we?
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Well you weren't specific. You said Hamilton "blows Cabrera out of the water." And I agree about the defensive aspect. I just don't think it plays much of a role. Barry Bonds didn't win 4 straight from '01 to '04 because of his defense. Ryan Howard didn't win in '06 because of his defense. Hell, even Frank didn't win two of them because of his defense. In those two cases, they beat out everybody else on offense. Well, maybe not in 06 for Howard since Pujols was better than him, but that was the case with Frank. In this case, Cabrera and Hamilton are virtually equal. Hamilton's been a hell of a lot more valuable than Cabrera. 1.5 WAR is quite a disparity.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) He does? Hamilton: .354/.406/.631/1.037. wOBA .444, OPS+ 172 Cabrera: .340/.434/.638/1.072. wOBA 441, OPS+ 184 Then you have to take into account that if you remove Cabrera from the Tigers' lineup you have an offense that would resemble that of the Mariners or A's. Take Hamilton away from the Rangers' lineup you still have Kinsler, Young, Guerrero, Cruz. Hamilton has been fantastic and is every bit deserving of the award. But it was until June 1st that he went nuts. Cabrera has been doing it from day one and has been just a tad better with less favorable circumstances. Now if you're factoring in defense, then Hamilton has the edge. But I seriously doubt defense plays a role in MVP voting. We can't even get the gold gloves right half the time. Of course you have to incorporate defense if you're talking about who deserves the award. The two are pretty much level on offense, even if you adjust to ballpark with RC+ (180 for Cabrera, 179 for Hamilton) and wRAA (50 for Hamilton, 51 for Cabrera). Sure, Cabrera gets intentionally walked and pitched around more than anybody else in the AL and that does hurt his stats like RC+ and wOBA since IBBs are not accounted for (which is why Cabrera's OPS+ does look better). Only in that respect does his numbers suffer.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) What soapbox? I'm stating my opinion that I don't want the cheater. You say you want him. You save your win at all costs soapbox for yourself and your family. Timo Perez cheated and so did Pablo Ozuna, should we get our 2005 WS trophy revoked? Oh noes! Hell, you can even say that A.J. cheated to help us win the World Series.
  10. People looking for morality in sports are looking for it in the wrong place. I'll root for an ex-terrorist if I have to, I real don't care.
  11. Kenny is the god of waivers!
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) What if he used his NTC second time around? Of course he can use it the first time around and won't get put on waivers again this season. Not sure about that actually.
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) Forgive my waiver incompetence, but if an NL team claimed Manny, the Dodgers have to deal with them only, right? Well, deal or no deal. Yup. And in this case, he can be put on waivers again, but he would have to get dealt if he was put on again.
  14. If multiple teams claimed, we probably didn't get him.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) This is the big game of the weekend. I think the Sox should win on Sunday, but beating CC will be tough even with Danks on the mound. Winning Friday would give em a good chance to win the series. Freddy has been bad, but Burnett hasn't exactly been shutting teams down either. The bats need to step it up tonight. Someone send out the Manny signal into the sky!!!! Burnett is every bit as bad as Freddy this year.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:34 AM) AL MVP: Hamilton (though Cabrera would be my pick if the Tigers had a better record). AL ROY: Neftali Feliz (extremely weak year for the AL crop. If Bailey won it last year, Neftali should easily win it this year). AL manager of the year: Ozzie Guillen Ron Washington (could easily go to Gardenhire). AL CY Young: David Price NL MVP: Pujols/Votto (simply can't pick one. Honorable mention for Adrian and Carlos Gonzalez). NL ROY: Buster Posey (and it's not even close). NL manager of the year: Bud black (gotta give some love to Dusty Baker, though). NL Cy Young: Josh Johnson (He's hit a little rough patch. But that was to be expected. As his ERA wasn't going to remain below 2 all year. If he finishes reasonably strong he should win it). Josh Hamilton blows Cabrera out of the water in just about everything though.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) Can someone explain what this "M mechanics" thing is? http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/baseba...nStrasburg.html
  18. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) Peavy has lasted almost 8 years now with the M mechanics and has not had any major elbow issues. Some shoulder but no major elbow ones. As you say some can last longer than others. Peavy has an inverted L, but he had issues long before this recent injury.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) No kidding. I think the team would get a jolt of adrenaline right away if he were to come here. Plus, Manny would definitely get up to play the Yankees.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) LOL, hey even a blind squirrel... but really, there will be a few people in the media who can say they saw this coming, there was an outlet or two during the draft yelling about his mechanics... I think owners really push a draft salary cap/slot next time CBA is negotiated, and when agents go to the Nats and they say "sorry, we have a lot of money in Bryce and Stras can't afford that vet" the union may join. I just hope Chris Sale lasts a lot longer than Strasburg. Sale's mechanics aren't pretty either.
  21. We need Manny like, now.
  22. Karma is hitting Mike Rizzo right about now.
  23. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) But not a surprise to a lot of baseball people. Could have called it before he even pitched one major league game and not even just for the sake of being the pessimist. Even Steve Phillips saw it coming, LOL. He's going to have to alter his delivery somehow.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Jackson of the 2 HR 29 RBI and league-leading 135 Ks in 480 AB? That's worse than Pierre. He's hitting .306. He has a .358 OBP with a .345 wOBA and playing a solid center field. He's better than Pierre.
  25. Let's hope we do more of this against New York.
