I don't think Sam had much of a plan in that at bat. He was just trying to survive. Good effort, but you've gotta do everything you can to pull a ball on the ground there at least. But then again, it's not like the guys after him can be depended on to drive the guy from 3rd in.

This game is on Venable. I know Hudson didn't exactly get hit hard, but it made no sense to use him in the 8th. 4 righties in a row coming up including 2 who murder lefties at the back end of it. It's like Will didn't want him to possibly face Stewart when he took him out for Taylor. Then he made the same mistake in the 10th, using another lefty against the same part of the order. Toglia and Elly had no issues hitting deep enough fly balls to get the run in. Venable has been god awful on this homestand. From the Schultz incident, to using Richards to close, and now this. We lose a game we were in control of and now we probably won't see Taylor the rest of the series cause we just wasted 2 innings from him.

I didn't understand the curve ball to Stephenson. He was just looking at the sinker at 99 the previous 2 pitches. You want him to pound that pitch into the ground for a double play.

Because he put Beni in for Doyle and Beni ain't playing CF. Another bad move by Venable.

A lot of bad luck this inning, but I was scared as hell that Elly was gonna tie it cause he absolutely crushes lefties. It didn't make a ton of sense to use Hudson against the 3 guys he faced.

Well, Mateo is at least better than Acuna. With Doyle on the team, you don't need Acuna to play CF anymore.

I'd much rather use Richards in the 8th against 678 in the order than in the 9th against 912.

There were better spots to use Richards for an inning. Ideally you want Brozaban, Hudson, or Hicks to cover the 9th if Grant isn't available.

Yeah nobody really hates Richards, Will is just an idiot for using him in that situation.

So what's the plan for the bullpen? I was thinking they might use McDougal after Hagen, but it seems like they're using the high leverage arms in these middle innings. With an off day tomorrow, I'm guessing the entire bullpen is available?

If it's more than 45 minutes, they go to the bullpen.

If the delay is long enough this turns into a bullpen game. Maybe we'll see Hagen and McDougal.
