  1. To his credit, he was right about it from the start.
  2. I think this was always going to happen, especially with the shortened schedule this year and the possible double headers. I have a hard time believing this team is going to let $18 million sit in the bullpen.
  3. Caruso listed as questionable for the game tomorrow.
  4. Hard to ask for that when you're coming off a 0.8 WAR season.
  5. Unfortunately, the team already started shortening the window when they decided to trade for Kimbrel last year.
  6. Yup, this is probably the biggest problem I have with the whole situation. Picking up Kimbrel's option felt like them trying to justify the cost we gave up for the trade. Sometimes you just gotta eat your losses and not double down on a bad trade. We decided to double down on a bad trade instead of using that money to get ourselves a free draft pick. We'll have to see if they actually get rid of Kimbrel. If he actually brings something of value back, then great. If not, it's just another example of this FO not knowing what the hell they're doing. Like you said, in the worst case scenario, Rodon gives you more innings than Kimbrel. And if that's the case, Rodon at $18 million is probably a better investment than Kimbrel at $16 million.
  7. Cause we all know Boras ain't gonna do you a solid back.
  8. Yeah that made no sense to me. He probably won't get more than that on the market. He really wore down in the 2nd half after an all-star first half. When he faced the Sox, his stuff was pretty impressive. But like Rodon, I think his velocity took a dive in the 2nd half. Carlos didn't get bombed with lesser stuff, but Kikuchi did.
  9. Kikuchi rejected a $13 million player option. He's probably looking for more than that in a contract. If the Sox weren't willing to pay Rodon $18 million a year, I'm not sure why they'd want a lesser pitcher for $5 million less.
  10. If the opt-out is a player opt-out, he can hit the market again next year if he proves his durability with his new-found velocity.
  11. He still hits lefties well and with the NL DH, he'll definitely have a spot somewhere.
  12. We really decided to pick up Kimbrel's option of $16 million but were too scared to give Rodon a QO worth $18 million. If we don't end up trading Kimbrel for something noteworthy, that'd be a major fail.
  13. Yeah how does it work exactly? Say if we offered Rodon the QO, he declines, but doesn't sign before the expiration of the CBA. Do we still get a comp. pick if they do come up with an international draft?
  14. I don't think that's legal. Boras would be an awful agent if he let one player's situation affect another.
  15. I wonder how much more money not having a QO attached got him.
  16. How much cap space do we get with the 3 cuts?
  17. Diekman was so bad last year the A's had to go out and get Chafin. He started out fine, but he was giving up a bunch of homers after June.
  18. Never forget that Lance Lynn singlehandedly won us a game against Milwaukee with his bat and his arm.
  19. It's almost like players' speed and legs decline after their age 31 season. Dye actually had a 104 wRC+ in 2007, but ended up being worth -1.2 WAR because of his awful defense.
  20. The Braves won a WS with Duvall in CF and Rosario and Pederson/Soler in the corners. That's about as slow of an outfield as you can get. That doesn't mean other teams should try to do the same.
  21. He can't possibly have very much trade value. It seemed like he was gonna quit football last year.
  22. I don't think Dye was bad defensively in 05. But it really went down the shitter in 06 and afterwards.
  23. I thought Chris Taylor re-signed with LA?
  24. His sprint speed on statcast was about the same. He was like 1 percentile faster than he was pre-injury.
