I think there will be an adjustment period for guys who were on it. Lynn has been missing location quite a bit arm-side. That's probably fixable, but his pinpoint location he had with the sticky stuff might not be there anymore.

I'm guessing they'd reschedule the game for August 9-11 if it's rained out. Right before our stretch of death in August against the Yankees, A's, Rays, and Jays.

I put the rank in fWAR in there as a comparison. It's hard to gauge this cause it's only a 12 game sample, but the pitching is clearly regressing (like we all expected at some point). How much it regresses along with the impact of the sticky ban is the more interesting question.

I was curious just how bad our pitching has been since the sticky ban. Since 6/21 Starters: 10th in fWAR, 5.34 ERA/3.79 FIP with a .338 BABIP Relievers: 24th in WAR, 6.49 ERA/5.90 FIP Starters definitely falling on some bad batted ball luck, although we were pretty fortunate for the first 3 months. So maybe this is an expected regression. Bullpen has been god awful. Overall: bad. Keep in mind this doesn't include the Houston series where we got our ass beat just about every game.

Are we really using fielding percentage to grade defense now? Story has been one of the best defensive SS in baseball by just about any defensive metric over the past 5 years: UZR, DRS, OAA, pretty much anything besides fielding percentage. He was even a gold glove finalist in 2019. While Tim has improved a lot on defense this year, he's not in the same league as Story. If anything, defense is still TA's biggest flaw in his game.

I doubt he wanted to throw it there. Fry definitely should have pitched to Gordon. Even if it didn't work out, it seems like the right move just based on the splits and Cease's pitch count and effectiveness.

Once again, our training staff fucks up big time. It really makes you wonder how ready Eloy and Robert will be when they come back. They said Grandal is ready to come back despite not being able to run for himself as early as yesterday afternoon and he immediately re-injures himself, only this time it's much more serious. I know there's been a lot of injuries this year all across baseball, but we're doing something wrong. The re-injures with Engel and Grandal are inexcusable.

Grandal is probably out until August/September, if Trout's injury is any indication of the timeline.

That ball had a low catch probability to begin with. Gordon hit it pretty hard and it didn't hang up that long. A good defender gets to it, but Goodwin isn't that.

Yup I really didn't understand it. I know Tony didn't want to hit Goodwin and Sheets back to back, but the easy solution to that is just to put Vaughn between them.

Had we played better the last 3 days, this division would have been nearly wrapped up. 9 games down in July is a lot and Cleveland might think about selling.

Goodwin was positioned weirdly. They were playing Gordon like an opposite field hitter. He very well might be, but if he was playing straight up he might have a shot at that ball. Either way, you're right. Goodwin is a god awful defensive outfielder. Engel coming back will be a godsend.

Burr finally getting exposed a bit today. His stuff just isn't good enough if he's not gonna consistently be around the zone.

Against Classe, it's pretty unlikely. Rays have been playing pretty poorly as of late.

Yeah it's pretty disappointing. This was supposed to be when this team padded its record. The schedule isn't easy in July or August.
