What is this? Giolito throwing 94-95 and being good? Since when?

Don't like Russell at all. He's scoring based on volume and isn't a very efficient player.

I still question Morant's ability to shoot the 3 ball, but he's an amazing passer. With the Bulls being a pretty good 3 point shooting team already, he'd be a great fit. We have scorers right now, but we need somebody better than Dunn when it comes to passing and driving the ball.

Trout about to sign 12/430 deal
I for one feel like he should have taken 57 more years to complete the masterpiece contract.

Holy hell that's cheap. We still have 15.5 million left in cap room.

I like that it's a one year deal. Take a safety in the draft and see if he can replace him in a year. We need cap space to retain Eddie Jackson next year.

Amos is fine as a cleanup safety. But when he was given more responsibility and more ground to cover with Eddie Jackson out, he was definitely exposed. Especially in the second half of the playoff game against the Eagles. There were 3-4 instances where a safety with better instincts and speed could have made numerous huge stops for the Bears in Amos' position. Instead, Amos kept a Eagles TD drive alive with a late hit penalty (because of the fact he has limited range) and allowed the final TD drive to continue by not even looking at Alshon Jeffrey on a third and medium conversion. I think there's a reason why the Broncos and Bears passed on him even though he got a pretty reasonable deal in the grand scheme of things.

Eloy officially got paid
Just thinking about that near the end of my last post had me triggered. We didn't want to risk giving Machado an extra $50 million over 2 years, but we're willing to risk at least 30 million $ on a guy who hasn't played a Major League game yet? And the $30 million in this case would be like a best case scenario. Not to mention that it's at least 7 years down the road.

Eloy officially got paid
That's still high. I mean, if he ends up being the 4 or 5 WAR player we think he can be, then the deal kind of pays for itself. But why do that when you can keep him for 7 years at something like $50 million? We'd be looking at paying 2 million for his first 4 years and then whatever the 3 years of arbitration pay out. Why take this big of a risk for an extra year at $30 million WHEN WE WEREN'T WILLING TO PAY THAT TO MANNY MACHADO?!?!

Eloy officially got paid
Now that I've thought about this...Yeah technically we'd get him for 7 years with 3 years of arbitration now that he won't start the year at the ML level. Even if he wins MVP, he's not gonna get more than 20 mil in arbitration. We'd basically be buying one extra year for at least $40 million. That makes no sense.

Eloy officially got paid
Holy shit. We're getting Eloy till he's 30!

If that's true, how did they not take that deal?

I think we're definitely going to try for Houston, a cheaper safety, and a kicker with 25 million in cap space.

Welp, the Coleman and Collins deals really screwed the Bears. Amos and Callahan will both get paid more than we wanted.

Doesn't Gio always look good in ST and then once the real thing starts he goes back to being bad? Isn't that what happened last year?

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
The plan was never going to work with what ownership and the front office was planning to offer.
-
Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
Looking at how easy this deal was to match...jesus christ. This is almost worse than the Manny debacle. Manny got more money per year and an opt-out. We weren't even in the running in the end for Harper, who got no opt-out (what JR wants) and an AAV of only 26 million (5 mil less than what we offered Manny). I realize this contract is also 3-5 years longer than what they were willing to commit to Machado, but holy crap.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
At least they got Realmuto, Robertson, and Cutch so far. Bryce would make their off-season perfect, but they were already a competing team. Adding those guys should get them to the 88-90 win territory.
