QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Seems to me this case is going to be one of the times we are thankful this country has two systems in which they can prosecute another. There was not enough evidence to state that Zimmerman killed Martin in cold blood, and frankly, he was doing what he needed to ensure he was not killed, thus, they could not convict him criminally of this crime. But, had Zimmerman not gotten involved, Martin would still be alive, so there is absolutely a wrongful death involved here. I'm guessing the civil suit is going to be much stronger and much more likely to lead to a conviction. As has been mentioned, Zimmerman was found not guilty, which is not the same as innocent. We know he shot and killed Martin. Due to the level of guilt, if tried in a civil court, he very well could/should be found guilty and the Zimmerman family will owe a great deal of money to the Martin family. I don't feel that letting Zimmerman out would be the same as letting Jason Holmes out. This isn't a psychotic lunatic who is bound to kill again. I believe he was a vigilante who got in over his head and made a snap decision that cost another human being their life, and that is incredibly unfortuante. He should still be tried civilly, because there is absolutely some level of guilt here that should be dealt with. I disagree, Z has a history of violence. He had to take anger management classes. He beat his former gf. He's been called a Jekyll and Hyde by a co-worker(s). He had a run-in with a law enforcement officer. There's his altercation with a Daniel Osmun. A neighbor accused Z of repeatedly stalking him, right up to his front door. He was called overly aggressive as a security guard...something like this was bound to happen sooner or later (especially since this moron had a gun). This is a guy with issues, he's prone to making terrible decisions, he has a gun, believe me, this won't be the last time we hear him getting in trouble.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) It shows the government that you speak of isn't above writing laws that will harm a person, financially...OR physically. It baffles me how you'd think they'd be ok writing laws that allow them to steal in the financial markets, but they'd stop short of writing laws that you're speaking of now. Sorry I had to connect the dots for you. Perhaps it's high time you start thinking for yourself now. I love how Y2HH was pontificating about avoiding this thread because of the insults being hurled by both sides and then without provocation, throws an insult at another poster...hooray for consistency

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:13 PM) Can we just give away Florida and Texas to Mexico? No thanks, we'll pass...

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) And he caught him? in a chase? you guys are really soft in here if you believe this tub of goo caught a 17 yr kid. Please someone answer WHy didn't Martin just go home? Fair question and honestly it was a fatal mistake by TM. Another question, why didn't GZ identify himself as Watch Captain immediately to try and diffuse the situation. We know one of GZ's versions is BS, the one that says TM ambushed him from behind some bushes since there aren't any bushes in the area where the fight broke out.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) Did those guys bash your head into the concrete? Because that makes things much different. And the cuts he had after the event support it, your irrelevant opinion aside. Your opinion is as irrelevant as mine, you weren't there either. Yeah, his head injuries were so severe he refused to go to the hospital...

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) You obviously have no clue on what youre talking about here. It isnt that easy to get someone off of you from that position if youre getting punched in the face when you have no idea how to defend yourself. And he wasnt taking MMA lessons. He was doing basically cardio workouts at a MMA gym. The gym owner even said he didnt do anything more than punch a heavy bag. He didnt do any MMA type workouts/grappling. Have you ever gotten in a fight? I've fought bigger guys than me and never had to resort to killing someone. You don't think it entirely possible that Zim is exaggerating just what a killing machine that teenager was? I'm of the opinion that he used unneccesary force, his injuries weren't that serious, so sue me...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) Geraldo Rivera: jesus christ edit: seriously, is there any way to read this besides Rivera advocating for a "shoot unknown black males on sight" policy for white women? I submit G Rivera as the biggest moron in these internets, congrats!

I've no respect for people who go look for fights, get handled, shoot the other guy and claim self defense. Hint, don't be Batman, follow your own guidelines, use common sense and no one gets hurt. They should send Zim to prison for just being an idiot. Oh, and guys like him shouldn't be packing heat, he's a flat out moron.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) The man doesn't have a shred of pride left but at least he's alive... for now. He practically had a witness berate him and call him a giant f***ing p**** to save his skin. Not sure if I would want to go out like that. That to me is the most WTF thing about all this...Zim is so b****made he can't get a teen who weighs less than him, off of him without killing him? Really? This is a guy who wanted to be a cop and took MAA lessons and he's now the weakest man alive...please.
-
All I'm gonna say is that it's a real b**** move to pull out a gun in a fist fight. So now George is a softie pushover (let's ignore his anger issues and violent past) and Trayvon is an eight armed teenaged killing machine...ok.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) i think George Zimmerman is gonna get convicted of manslaughter. Yup I saw one of Casey Anthony's defense lawyers, Cheney Mason, on Piers Morgan last night and he had an interesting theory. He said if someone is accused of murder but there is only circumstancial evidence to go by, chances are pretty good the accused get off but if you absolutely know who the killer is (Zim in this case claiming self-defense), they usually will get convicted of something. He predicted that GZ will get manslaughter.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Interesting twist I didn't know (and find a little hard to believe): Zimmerman didn't know Martin was dead until a cop told him. I don't believe that, at all.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) Trying to 'play cop' resulted in an innocent person being shot to death. Zimmerman shot 1 time and killed a child who had been doing absolutely nothing wrong. He was young, black and had a hoodie, doe

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) But the guy with the gun picked the fight. Martin was running away, Zimmerman chased him. You keep conveniently forgetting that Martin tried to run away to start and Zimmerman escalated a simple situation by chasing. Had he just done nothing, no one gets hurt, no one goes to jail, no taxpayer money is wasted. There is literally no situation where what Zimmerman did, ends in a fairy tale. Its not like he saw Martin even breaking into a house or car, he literally was walking down the street. In no world does that give a normal citizen the right to follow with a gun. The second Zimmerman decided he was going to be a vigilante, is the second that someone was likely going to get seriously injured. And that decision occurred days/weeks/months before Martin stepped out of his house. Its time to be serious and live in a serious world. You are lying if you really want random people running around your neighborhood chasing teenagers with guns. Flat out lying, because you wouldnt accept it for a second. Only in Jenks neighborhood
-
Its gonna get really ugly if Zimmerman walks scot free, especially considering the jury racial make up.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Especially if you're not white! I ain't running from you either

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Nice cherry picking there. You knew what I meant. Of course all races commit crimes but there are races that get their crimes magnified in depth more so than others. Adam Lanza shoots up 20+ kids/adults. "Well he had mental problems, he's just one guy!" A black/mexican robs someone. "Those blacks and mexicans are ruining this great country!" By a racist media that magnifies what minorities do. Whites also commit robberies.

I hope I never have to walk through Jenks neighborhood...

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) Its a tough one. I just dont like the idea that someone can follow me around and if I get nervous or try and protect myself, he may then have the right to shoot me? It just seems circular. I also think (and correct me if Im wrong) that the fact 911 told Zimmerman to stop pursuing should be strong evidence that Zimmerman should face some consequence. If he had just listened multiple lives arent ruined. The only time you should be a hero like that, is if you actually see a violent crime taking place or imminently going to occur. Zimmerman is likely just a scared guy who freaked out once a real fight started and maybe even legitimately believed he was going to be killed. The situation just should have never happened. This is where I stand...the whole situation would have been avoided had that meathead just stayed pat like the dispatcher told him to and wait for the cops to handle it. That simple

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Zimmerman made his mistake being too aggressive. I think his actions (being suspicious not pursuing TM) were justified considering the circumstances. I just think he lost his composure due to the criminal activities and took things into his own hands. He probably thought TM was going to just lay down. He was wrong, there was a scuffle, and the kid got shot dead. GZ could have used context clues and tact to diffuse the situation but I imagine they both went into meathead mode. 2nd degree murder is just the wrong charge. Maybe negligent homicide or manslaughter (they might be the same, I'm no lawyer). I'm a black man myself and I am even suspicious of black folks. I know what some are capable of. If white people were like that, I'd be suspcious of them to. The fact is, it isn't a case for racism as much being concerned. Racist is like the KKK who just hate to hate. Having concerns doesn't make you a racist. White people commit crime too, you know...it ain't only blacks and Mexicans.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) They combed through data from encyclopedias, CIA World Fact Book, did surveys, etc. It's a little old now, 2002, but when it was published it was, by far, the broadest and most comprehensive study of its kind that had been done. Ok Americans have to get their heads outta their collective asses when it comes to racial make up of LatinAmerica. Europeans and people from other parts of the world didn't just go to the USA/Canada. I think Americans believe all Mexicans/Latinos are Amerindians because those are the majority of people that emigrated to the US. They are people who were farmers and small villagers who had no opportunities in the big cities. It's as if millions of poor rural southerns left the US to go to Canada, in time, most Canadiens would come to believe the US were made up of just a bunch of poor Southern hicks.

These last two pages are proof Americans really really don't know s*** about their neighbors to the south...We all look the same!! FYI, my mother was fair skinned with blue eyes (she was white and Mexican amazingly enough! Might have something to do with the fact that here parents were from Spain, hint, it's located in Europe). My second son has blue/grayish eyes and could be considered "white". Among my friends, there is Italian, English, Arabic, French, Chinese, German and Portuguese ancestry along with the obvious Spanish/Amerindian mix. We are ethnically diverse. One example? Former President Fox is of Irish ancestry. Lots more examples I can come up with but I think you get my point. We're not all "brown and short". I don't know how that study SS posted came about their results but we are much more diverse than what Y2HH and others like him think...He's been to Mexico a bunch of times, I've only lived here for half of my 42 years. To the thread subject, Zimmerman has to pay for his idiocy at the very least.
