Heyman: Sox interested in someone on some team. Nightengale: *nods*
Could also be us absorbing money to reduce prospect cost.

Could be unrelated but figured I’d post since a Eduardo + Soria combo was being discussed earlier in this thread.

Escobar was on the bench tonight, but apparently was available if needed. At least the injury concerns seem to be cleared up.

Hahn: Too early to know if Sox will be buyers
That’s not him in the video per Marlins beat writer, but not sure if he had any involvement or not. Best case scenario for him is he simply reposted something tasteless, although still a bad look for him obviously.

What’s this story about Starling Marte posting a video of a mouse getting blasted to space on a firework? Haven’t been able to find video, but the picture is definitely going to stir some shit up if he’s involved.

And let’s be honest, we don’t have much to trade. Not sure what kind of additions are expecting.

I don’t think this is a one or another type thing. The Sox need will need to add two bats and will almost certainly go with a more reasonable priced option for 2B and likely explore more impactful options for the OF. Personally, I think Escobar is about as good of a rental you can get for a decent price. Versatile player, strong defender at 2B, fairly even offensive splits (101 wRC+ vs RHP, 105 vs LHP since 2017), and provides some much needed power (.211 ISO since 2017) which complements the lineup nicely. He’s also a great clubhouse guy who will help the team in whatever role they need him in. He is not a star, but he’s exactly what we need for half a year with Madrigal out.

I don’t think it gets a deal done today, but I think we can possibly make a deal with two of those guys come July. I would think Burger + Lambert would be an attractive package for a team like the Marlins.

I’m assuming Reinsdorf eats cash (at least for Escobar) and that’s reflected in the proposed price.

Thanks! Looks like I was was wrong on this.

I don’t believe so.

I believe he still has 32 games left on his original 80 game suspension given this was handed out in August of 2019 and the fact he didn’t play at all last year.

He has a 99 wRC+ for Charlotte, requires a 40 man roster spot, and would have to serve a suspension. I get he’s been hot as of late, but I hink he’s nothing more than a last ditch insurance policy.

I feel like this trade will ultimately be Pilkington & Bilous for Escobar.

We need infield depth though. Adding Escobar isn’t just about 2B, but his ability to cover SS or 3B if need be. I’d try to hold onto Mendick so have multiple options.

"sticky substances"
Lance Lynn’s spin rate on his 4 seamer by year: 2015: 2,418 2017: 2,375 (98.2%) 2018: 2,385 (98.6%) 2019: 2,482 (102.6%) 2020: 2,492 (103.1%) 2021: 2,425 (100.2%) Spin rate dropped slightly alongside his velocity while returning from TJS and then increased slightly alongside a velocity increase once healthy. I believe he also lost some weight and made some mechanical adjustments after joining the Yankees. Not sure I see enough there to claim a “gotcha” like Balta is trying to do, especially when the reason for massive improvement is primarily driven by arsenal changes / addition of a cutter.

Slumps do happen and that’s part of it no doubt. But we are asking Tim, Yoan, Jose, & Grandal to carry a massive load right now with so many fringe guys in the lineup. I mean, Jose has had guy with a .400 OPS batting behind him for the last month. The talent level right now is a serious problem and one that will need to be addressed before the trade deadline.- Hahn: Too early to know if Sox will be buyers

Yeah, perhaps I should have described it as informed speculation. I’m sure there is a reason he tweeted that, especially given he put a timeframe on it.- Heyman: Sox interested in someone on some team. Nightengale: *nods*
Nothing from Not Cishek so it must be a false alarm!- Hahn: Too early to know if Sox will be buyers
?...if anyone would be willing to sell early it’s the D-Backs, especially with their B tier players.- Hahn: Too early to know if Sox will be buyers
Grandal has been 24% above league average as a hitter.- Hahn: Too early to know if Sox will be buyers
Beckham would require a 40 man roster spot and would also have to serve a suspension. I think Burger is coming up and soon. Scot Gregor tweeted today that he thinks Jake will be up in the next two weeks. I’m sure that’s mostly speculation, but it seems like we’re nearing the end of the Yermin experiment (for now) and Burger & Sheets are the only two options to fill the spot. - The Offense - Near Term Actions
