2026 Draft Class Signing Thread
He reaches and punts? What are you talking about? First off, you are anchoring in too much on prospect rankings from the major publications. The simple reality is prep players come with more variance and most teams are willing to pay a premium for a chance at that higher ceiling. Weingartner has a massive ceiling and that’s what the cost reflects. His draft ranking reflects a much lower floor than many college counterparts in the same range. IMO, going after ceiling should always be the priority in the draft. Second, most teams punt a few picks in the back half off the top 10 because the economics make sense to do so. Why use $200k of slot pool in rounds 9 & 10 when you can get similar players for only $50k of your slot (given the first $150k doesn’t count against anything)? Shirley did this three times to help pay the overslot preps in the 6th & 11th.

Gonzo & Eisert Traded to Pirates for Comp Pick and Jaden Woods
None of this is statistically significant given its 28 total plate appearances with the Pirates. The problem is you are actually drawing conclusions off a SSS impacted by a ridiculously low .182 BABIP and declaring the player is “not a very good one”.

He has a .364 xwOBA with the Pirates…that would be third on the Sox behind Murakami & Vargas.

White Sox Showing Interest in Detmers
Per Yahoo’s baseball insider. Never heard of the dude but he’s being referenced at MLBTR so must have some legitimacy. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/mlb-trade-deadline-buzz-cubs-and-white-sox-in-on-reid-detmers-marlins-not-in-full-sell-mode-and-more-192100230.html

Rentals of this ilk don’t command top 100 or close to that level of prospect. Just look at the last few deadlines…teams are way smarter now. I also truly believe Bonemer is untouchable. I kind of think we see two major trades now. The first one for Detmers and built around Carlson. A second trade for Singer & Stephenson that is quantity over quality.

Your First Place Chicago White Sox vs. The NY Yankers 6:40 CT
I just read Fegan’s article on Schultz and it’s wild they are working through major changes to his breaking ball arsenal while also adjusting to the major league level and building up his innings. I have argued that we need to remain patient and finish his development in the majors, but I’m fully pivoting away from that now. He needs to figure out his arsenal and pitch shapes in AAA.

Your First Place Chicago White Sox vs. The NY Yankers 6:40 CT
This is the biggest problem. Can’t have Fedde & Schultz both providing such short starts…it wears down the bullpen. I do kind of think they add two SPs and not a reliever at this point.

I have him going to the Angels in my upcoming trade predictions.

Then they don’t have to pay the player. Not sure why people think taking on money next year is a problem.

White Sox optioned Junior Perez
Looks like Hays will be showcasing in AAA for the next week.

Schultz to the bullpen as he nears his innings limit?
I’m not ready to make that call, but if they want to go that path, then the point holds and he builds up innings at Charlotte.

Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
We are officially one week out from the trade deadline. The Sox themselves will be busy with seven straight games against the Yankees & Rays and that’s with no off days. Short of a massive blow-up this coming week, I think the motions are already in order for Getz to be an aggressive buyer. Two items of interest here. First, there is a roster move coming today and it will be Hays or Pereira replacing Junior Perez as RH hitting outfielder. Hays is on the 60 Day IL so if it’s him getting the call, then he’ll push our 40 man roster to the full amount. If it’s Pereira, we won’t run into that situation just yet. Either way, we can’t keep both of them and Grichuk, meaning one of them will be let go in some form over the next week. Second, the trade for Urquidy also had a roster implication. While I fully expect him to be just AAA depth as we shift McDougal & Hagen to relief roles to end the season, it does add to the roster crunch. Drew Thorpe is the one guy on the 60 Day IL who looks like they will need to come off before season end. It’s also possible that Hagen, Mason Adams, or even Pallette will need to get added. The real crunch will come this offseason, but I’d expect some fat to be trimmed at the deadline.

Schultz to the bullpen as he nears his innings limit?
I think it’s got to be higher than 100. I don’t recall them saying Schultz would have a massive innings restriction on him this year. He’s got 12 turns left in the rotation and at 5 innings per start that would put him at 140 total on the season. May guess is they use off days to skip two starts and land him around 130.

We face two LHPs in the four game series vs. the Yankees. Right now, it looks like we’ll miss the Rays’ two LHPs. It won’t be a big showcase, but teams are desperate for RH hitting. Assuming Hays gets the call, he really needs to make these couple of starts count.

I like this very pro White Sox version of Keith Law.
