The threat of catching a disease doesn't cool their desire, as it does for most people, and blue moods or stress can send them cruising for casual partners, suggests a Kinsey Institute study. There's very little known about how personality and sexual arousal habits affect the likelihood of adults pursuing risky sex, says John Bancroft, Kinsey Institute director. His study of 1,500 gay and heterosexual men identifies a minority, about 10% to 20%, who are most likely to engage in sex that could threaten their lives. The report on 589 gay men will be published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior. The findings on straight men will be published in 2004, Bancroft says. Results for both groups are similar. "For most of us, the way our bodies are set up probably makes it easier to do the right thing," Bancroft says. When depressed or stress-ed, 40% to 45% have less appetite for sex, and about the same percentage feel no change, past studies show. But a minority feel more aroused when they're upset. These men did more "cruising" for casual sex partners, many of whom they didn't know well. Sex that could lead to a disease or unwanted pregnancy causes many men to lose erections. The men who didn't have problems under these risky conditions also were more likely to practice unsafe sex, such as anal intercourse or without condoms. "They get excited despite the threat," he says.

Hello, I want to make one last statement on this particular subject. Like I said in the first post, I may have overreacted on leaving and whatnot, but I was EXTREMELY pissed off. To me it looked like Aboz was defending or protecting beastly..BEASTLY of all people. And also smelled of a HUGE Power trip and misuse of MOD responsibilities. You're not suppose to lock or delete threads unless things get way out of hand, which it clearly did not. And I received alot of PMs and AIMs on Sunday who clearly agree with my position on the abuse of power and the feeling of a certain poster(beastly) Ever heard of the expression "Wolf in Sheep Clothing" If he wants to deny it or not he's the reason that HSC is not posting here and you know what? She contributed a hell of alot more to the success of SoxTalk than WSC/Beastly has ever been ever to dream of. If it were up to me I would ban beastly's ass..but I can't, so who cares... And also, I think I have been a better poster than what Aboz gives me credit for. His reasoning for locking and than deleting the thread was he felt things "would" of or "might" have got out of hand... I was right in the middle of "Black Saturday" and tried to keep the peace and begged(I'm not afraid to say it" for posters to stay when they were on the verge of leaving the site cause of the nonsense.. So things wouldn't have gotten out of hand cause I WOULDN'T HAVE LET IT. I pick my spots on when to maybe take a shot at someone if I feel it is deserved and to stop if I see things getting out of hand. Man Jerks Off at Women's Center Fair Suspect Avoids Police After Being Spotted Masturbating By Jason La - Staff Writer Friday, October 24, 2003 An unidentified man allegedly spotted masturbating in front of the Women's Center evaded capture Thursday after Women's Center staff members called the Community Service Organization and UC Police Dept. to report him. The same man had reportedly been following a female student involved in the event the center was hosting. According to Nathalie Han, the Women's Center front desk associate who contacted CSO, the man had been following a female student who was part of a group of students from Hermanas Unidas of UCSB. The group was selling tostadas as part of the 11th Annual National Young Women's Day of Action Feminist Faire, an event encouraging young women to become involved in politics and social issues. Han said a friend of that female student asked her if she knew the man, and she said she did not know him. Han, a fourth-year political science major, said she saw the unidentified man standing in the crowd before he allegedly started masturbating. She said he looked creepy but was not doing anything wrong. "Throughout the event, for about 30 minutes, there was this guy standing behind me," Han said. Han said the female student's friend later informed Han that it looked like the unidentified man was masturbating while leaning against a tree in the lawn directly across from the Women's Center lawn. The man's genitals were not exposed, Han said, but "you could tell [what he was doing] by the look on his face." "He was pounding it," she said. Han said Sharon Hoshida, the Women's Center programming director, confronted the man and asked him to leave. The man said he "had an itch" and did not leave, she said. Han then called CSO for help, and the man fled toward the UCen when CSO and UCPD arrived at the scene, she said. UCPD officers pursued the man but were unable to catch him, Han said. After the man evaded police capture, Han said she, the female student who had been followed by the unknown perpetrator, and UCPD Sgt. Cathy Farley viewed surveillance tapes from UCen security cameras. "I worked with a police officer from UCPD for about two hours, looking at surveillance tapes," Han said. "We patrolled in the officer's car for about 10 to 15 minutes, but [we] didn't find him, unfortunately." She said she and the female student identified a man on the UCen surveillance tapes as the same one who was allegedly masturbating in front of the Women's Center. Han said she was shocked by the incident, as were many of the people who were at the event and saw what the man was doing. "What do you say to a guy who is masturbating in front of the place you work?" she said. Megan Arch, a third-year English major and the programming and sexual harassment coordinator for the Women's Center, said she didn't actually see the man in the act, but Han later told her what happened. "That's really weird that happened at an event that was promoting the prevention of violence against women and sexual harassment," she said. Arch did have advice for anyone who might be thinking of imitating the unidentified man. "If you need to get it on with yourself, do it at home, not at the Women's Center," she said. UCPD Public Information Officer Bill Bean could not immediately be reached for comment, and the names of the CSO officers who arrived on the scene could not be found at press time. The name of the female student who was followed by the unknown man was not available at press time, and the co-chairs of Hermanas Unidas could not be reached for comment.
