Damn, Soriano wins it again for the Cubs. Just like he did against the Brewers last week. I really wanted to see the Cubs lose this one because it would have put them on a 3-game losing streak (showing their arrogant-*ss fans they're not so invincible this year) but more importantly it also would have been the 2nd straight loss to their division-leading rivals. Ugh, now this just gives them momentum going into tomorrow.

What a weird day for Harden...8K's but 4 ER in 3 innings. If he manages to stay healthy most of the year, do the Cubs re-sign him?
-
There was a small article on ESPN that said Milwaukee may go after Peavy. I think the Brewers are one of the teams on Peavy's approval list so I hope they're able to work out a deal. Not only would that prevent the Cubs from getting him but that would also give the Brewers a legitimate ace on their staff that hopefully they can keep beyond just a half season.
-
How were they able to get Harden last year for practically nothing (nothing that hurt them, anyway)? Like someone said once before, it seems other GM's just give their players away to the Cubs to help them succeed. Obviously that's not the case but that's what it looks like sometimes. If they get Peavy this year for nothing I'm really going to be ticked. I really, really hope Milwauke goes after him hard and Peavy waives his no-trade clause for them. Btw, did Hendry trade for Reed Johnson or did they sign him?
-
He had a no-hitter going the day after Zambrano's last year, remember? That one was broken up late in the game. I hope COL gets a hit soon. Can you imagine the frenzy if the Cubs throw a no-hitter on their home opener?
-
Unfortunately they may not have to. Baseball "experts" keep saying it's almost a given that Peavy will be traded and if San Diego is desperate enough (and because of Peavy's no-trade clause) the Cubs may be able to get him for nothing of significance. Hell, they pulled it off last year with Harden.

White Sox versus Twins April 11th game thread 3:05, FOX

We could be on a 4 game losing streak after today. And really, we were one Thome hit away from being 0-4 to start the season, looking at the possibility of 0-5 today. Certainly not the way I hoped we'd start out...especially with the rest of the division playing just as poorly. -
My sentiments exactly!! I hope Lou does leaves Gregg in the closer's role far too long!
-
And they scored after 2 were out and nobody on. With their pitching staff and offense they have a chance to win every single game. Even though that won't happen, that's still sick (and annoying as a Sox fan). Also, not only are they far and away better than everyone else in their division, but they really are one of the top teams in the whole NL. They were last year too and look how that turned out...but I know they're not always going to go 3 and out in the first round of the playoffs.

The Cubs are down 2-1 but you know it's just a matter of time before they take the lead (and probably win). When the Sox were down 2-0 yesterday we knew the game was over. WTF???!!!!!
-
It makes me sick that the Cubs got Harden. Isn't he due for a stay on the DL soon or something? God, I hope he has multiple DL stints this year, if only so the Cubs don't re-sign him to a new contract.

White Sox (1-1) vs. Royals (1-1) 1:05-CSN
JustWin replied to soxfan3530's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Why? He'll probably shut this offense down too. -
They saw it as a make up call. The previous inning there was a missed call on Reed Johnson who was called out at first but was clearly safe.

4/7 Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox 1:05 CDT - CSN

MB needs to be on his game early. There's nothing worse than deflating an excited crowd by putting your team in a hole early. And on the flip side, hope the offense scores early and often! -
It's hard not to argue with Cubs fans. They do have a very good team and cub fans are just so cocky. I always say I won't let them get to me but the minute they start with their drivel it's hard to just not respond to it.

The rest of the AL C lost yesterday, right? Would be nice to get a W on the board today!! -
This is what scares me. Right now whenever Cub fans poke fun at our attendance, we use 2005 to strike back. That's our trump card. What happens if one of these years the Cubs do win it all? Then we have nothing....absolutely nothing....to use against them. They'll have the better attendance AND the trophy. We cannot even try to use the argument of "well we won it first" because that won't mean a damn thing to anyone. In fact, even now I hear Cub fans say things like, "ha, you guys won a world series and your team is irrelevant in this town." It's so frustrating.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) i agree...but, isn't getting entertainment from them losing the same thing as rooting against them? One of these years (sooner rather than later IMO) that team is going to win the pennant and possibly World Series...they are consistently putting out a division winning product and will continue to do so as long as they outspend everyone in that division by alot, and eventually they will breakthrough in the playoffs (Nearly happened in 03) ...I guess i'm just bracing myself for it, and i really think it could happen for them this year, although that makes it much more enjoyable when they do lose Very true. And the new owner suppposedly met his wife at a Cubs game so if he's a big fan they'll probably continue to spend money and be a perennial playoff contender. They'll become the Yankees of the NL. That makes me sick even thinking about it. I'm sure someone's about to say "the Yankees haven't won the WS in 8 years" or whatever but that's not even the point. You hate to wish injury on anyone but that might be the only way to slow the Cubs down if they keep spending and the rest of the division doesn't (whatever happened to the Cardinals, by the way??). If the Cubs start making the playoffs year after year after year, no one but us Sox fans will even know the Sox exist in this town. Hell, it's almost like that now.
-
I hate the Cubs just as much as teams in our own division, sometimes more. Please let them suffer a down year so we don't have to listen to their arrogant fans once again. I truly thought that last year would be the year they would at least make it to the World Series because of how horrid the NL was. Thank goodness the chokers in them came through once again! The problem is the rest of the NL is still not very good and the NL Central is an absolute joke so unless the unexpected happens, the Cubs should win that division easily.

Hello, first time poster here. I found this site about a year ago but was always too lazy to post. Anyway, I agree that this division will be competitive this year, although I don't think the Royals will win it. I don't know if the Sox have what it takes to win the division again since there are alot of "if this happens" with our team but I hope at the very least they'll be in contention all year. We'll see. It could be a very fun season or a very frustrating one.
