Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians 5/11/09 6:05 CDT, WCIU
JustWin replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Please sweep the Indians!! Gavin's era is ugly. It's time for him to step up and give us 7+ good innings. -
Cleveland has been struggling. We need to sweep!!
-
I probably am. So what? I thought I could join this forum and speak freely on how much I loathe the Cubs and their fans. Maybe I was wrong.
-
Ha. And that's why I shouldn't be responding to posts before I've had a cup of coffee.
-
He was? It doesn't look like it by by the box score. He went 8 IP and only gave up 1 run on 4 hits. I know stats don't tell the whole story...did he just look bad out there?
-
Is there something wrong with that? Please don't even try to insinuate that I'm a Cubs fan in disguise. I am FAR FAR FAR from that.
-
He's not better but he'll probably do so well that they don't even miss Aramis. Just like the luck they got with Jim Edmonds last year who couldn't buy a hit in San Diego but then all of a sudden was wonder boy for the Cubs. Freel will end up having a career year, watch.
-
Then he'll be back in the lineup for the Sox series. Damn.
-
Watch him only be out 3 or 4 weeks and be back in time for their IL against the Sox. Then he'll hit 5 run home runs against us.
-
Is anyone worried about Quentin yet? His average is plummeting and I heard on the radio that he's gone something like 30+ at-bats without a homer now?

GM Ken Williams criticizes pitchers for not protecting hitters

Possibly. But people need to also consider the possibility that things go right for them this year and they stay on top/near the top of the division all year. The way they're playing now may not be a fluke. -
Too bad Manny still isn't on the Red Sox. It would have been funny to watch the guys over on BBT cry over one of the major beloved Red Sox players being guilty of steroids.
-
But he's never gone on the DL and missed a significant # of starts. Also, he did pitch game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers.
-
Harden went 7+ innings yesterday and was hitting 96mph. If they were to go out and somehow get Peavy (who had 12 K's last night), that rotation would be sick. I really hope they don't sign Harden to a contract extension as he is one of the best pitchers in the game when healthy (and of course, so far with the Cubs he's been able to stay healthy). And with the Dodgers running away with the NL West, I really hope the Padres trade Peavy to some other team soon before the Cubs have a chance to get him.
-
Geez, Marshall is just cruising after giving up all 3 runs on one pitch in the first inning. If the score stays this way once Lincecum is removed, there's almost no doubt the Cubs will come back and win. They've got that swagger back where they feel they can win any game.
-
Yeah, Piniella is conceding this game so the Giants better not blow it. They need to score at least 3 more runs so Lou doesn't decide to put some of the regulars in to try to come back and win.
-
I agree and I WISH this injury had occurred during one of those PH appearances. Lou would have been massacred for that decision. The Padres have lost 6 in a row and are already almost 8 games out of first. If they feel like they'll never compete with the Dodgers and want to start shedding salary, I wish they'd trade Peavy now before the Cubs' sale goes through. Once that happens, and if the Cubs have any pitching issues, well......we know what will be dominating the headlines.
-
Ugh, the Cubs are heating up just as the Sox are going ice cold. I don't know how I can keep surviving the summers if this keeps up. At least if the Sox are playing well I don't care as much about what the Cubs do. Or if the Sox are stinking it up it makes it a lot more bearable if the Cubs are too. But the Cubs winning and Sox losing is a sickening combination that will take years off my life. I know, I know. It's a game, why get stressed about it? But damn it I can't help it.
-
Verlander had 11 K's yesterday. If some of their pitching holds up to go along with their offense, they're going to be tough to beat. Although hell, every team seems tough to beat these days when our offense goes 5 or 6 innings with only a couple hits.
-
Zambrano has been placed on the 15-day DL. I would love to see Zambrano out for an extended period of time and see the cubs really fall back in the race. It's too bad they didn't lose a few more games while Aramis Ramirez was out (he'll probably be back in the lineup tonight). The Cubs are playing just well enough to keep close to St. Louis and if they start clicking like they can, they can take off and not look back. Remember in 2007 they started off badly and then around June 1st they got hot and remained hot the rest of the year.

Greinke is due to lose, right? Or is he due for a no-hitter?

It probably wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the game was cancelled today. -
4/23/09 SOX @ O's - 6:05pm CDT - CSN/CSN+

Even if we lose tonight we'll still have a winning road trip, which is better than many of us expected at the start of it. But then we come home to face a tough Toronto team. Really, though, doesn't it seem as if there are no easy teams in the AL this year? KC is definitely improved and are no pushover, Seattle seems to be doing surprisingly well so far, Toronto is good, Baltimore has been good. Teams that are doing poorly, like the Indians, Angels, and Rangers, still aren't teams you can just kind of assume a win that night. I know any team can beat any other team on any given night, but... -
How does any team, especially a team like the Yankees, give up 14 runs in one inning? That's insane!! The Yankees are really getting embarrassed today. Those fans must be going crazy.
