QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 07:33 AM) This is the key, imo. I think we're seeing a trend that he's wearing down as seasons wear on and his age catches up to him. If KW believes that those lapses in endurance can be attributed to playing RF everyday, well, he may still have the energy to hit well through an entire season just being the DH. If KW believes that it isn't playing RF that wears him down then he's got to go. Additionally, as SS2K mentioned, if KW thinks it's all mental I think that means again that he needs to let him walk.dye would be good as a dh if we can resign him for 4 to 5 mil a year for 2 yrs would be ok i feel he will rebound next year

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) i wouldn't mind getting Sanchez. If nothing else you have another good lefty in the pen. He's ypung, lefthanded ,and a KO pitcher. I doubt he comes cheaply but he is definitely attainable. I think Konerko probably has more value to the Sox than SF but they desperately need a RH bat.i was and still am a big chet lemon fan i still remember my first sox game at old comisky park lemon in cf was just great . im trying to buy a lemon jersey from that 77 team anyone have one ????

QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Don't get me wrong, I like AJ. He's stepped up this year and has been a rock behind the plate. Yet the sox do have Tyler Flowers seemingly ready for the bigs. The sox would definitely be trading high on AJ. Yet isn't this something the Twins and Braves have done so well, that have stocked their systems with great young talent? The sox have multiple needs that cannot be filled without getting very lucky in free agency [on a reclamation project that could be signed for a low cost deal] or via trade [like Quentin] or the waiver wire [ala Jayson Nix]. The sox should use one or more of their trading chips [guys with value, like Alexei or AJ] in order to fill the holes in the bullpen and lineup. Trades may also help increase the talent level of the sox minor league system, with adding pitching or a few position players that could help in 2010. Besides Flowers, there doesn't seem to be someone who could crack the 2010 lineup. That kind of depth is sad. The big questions would be: Who would trade for a big time catcher like AJ? And what kind of talent could AJ bring back to the sox? not sure trading aj is a good idea but maybe . i believe he could bring us some value in a trade not sure what teams need a catcher other then toronto but i dont think they would want aj they probably want a younger guy as they wont be in contention for awhile . package him with jenks

one of our starting pitchers will be traded this off season only peavy danks and garcia are safe . we need some hitting and teams like texas and others are looking for a starter were not going to get much for the prospects we have except for hudson flowers viecido and a few guys at the A BALL level so trading a starter is really the only way to get a really good everyday player a package of say floyd and some prospects could bring us adrian gonzales ? the padres want pitching as they seem to have plenty of every day players that look very promising in there system or on the big club so floyd with maybe ely santeliz and anthony carter could bring in gonzales . i say we should go after adrian gonzales the way detroit went after cabrera a couple years ago . we would still have peavy danks buehrle hudson garcia still a very strong rotation and our lineup would improve big time .

According to Sun Times Kotsay wants to be back

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 06:35 AM) What amazes me is most of you think that Pods will be back next year? My guess is he gets a 2 yr offer which I am not sure we match given his injury history and he's not getting any younger...thoughts? i dont think pods will be back his defense is terrible and i dont believe he will hit the way he has next year . kotsay would be great to have back . pods as a dh is silly yeah its ok for a few games but anything more is a waste plus he is a lousy baserunner . bring back kotsay let pods go nix would be a better dh then pods -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) You have pretty high standards for the 5th starter spot. Without going through every teams '5th' starter or '5th' best starter, I feel secure in saying Sanchez would be as good as it gets. Yeah, he's got control issues. But he's consistently put up some pretty nasty K rates as well. He's also pitched very well since the all-star break: 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, .208 BAA, 10.78 K/9. Of course, his BB/9 is still over 4. That seems to be his only legitimate issue. Anyway, the Giants would laugh in Kenny's face if he went dangling PK for Sanchez. i dont think they would they need a hitter and they dont want to trade any of there top pitching prospects also as i read on other boards they might go after fielder but he will cost them much more then sanchez most of the talk is cain in a package and baumgerter so a sox sanchez for konerko plus maybe a prospect is not a bad trade . also sanchez is a player the giants are trying to move anyway . an for the those who think sanchez is not good well i guess you dont know to much more innings pitched to hits giving up plus more strikeouts per innings isnt good yeah he walks to many but that can be fixed he is 26yrs old . god koufax was terrible with walks when he first pitched but he found it and many others im not saying sanchez is koufax but he has great stuff and at 26 is a promising young lefthanded pitcher . and the giants want to trade him they need hitting and konerko wont cost them nearly as much as say gonzales or fielder

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) jonathen sanchez maybe a prospect involved some how ? would free up some cash and bring in a guy with great stuff that could become a great lefty and would possibly allow us to trade another starter for a lefthanded power hitter . i like paulie especially his defense but were not going to resign him and better to move him this off season then at the deadline

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) I did read your scenario wrong, thats my fault. Sox aren't going to trade Buehrle either way, but that scenario is at least semi-realistic. well they may not trade him but i wouldnt be suprised if they did .
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) If the Cardinals want him, Buehrle might want to go, but I have my doubts that he'd want to go anywhere else. Besides, why would San Diego trade Peavy and his contract away, then turn back around and acquire an older pitcher who is a step down from Peavy but has the same sized contract? why is everyone missing what i wrote ? buehrle would go to st louis not san diego . only prospects would go to san diego from us and st louis . i believe buehrle would only approve a trade to st louis anyway . and why do people say if the sox would even consider trading buehrle ? i like the guy but come on he is not a ace who is going to win 20 games and at 14 mil a year why wouldnt the sox consider trading him ?
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Lets just pretend for a second the Sox would consider trading Buehrle. In that scenario, the Pads trade their two best assets, and add payroll in the process. Not going to happen. buehrle would go to st louis not san diego we would send prospects to san diego and st louis would send propects to san diego in return we get gonzales possibly bell but mostly gonzales the only team added salary is st louis not san diego

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Getting a good bullpen is like catching lightning in a bottle. It's unlikely, but if it's done, people are perplexed as to how it happened. true but we need some new blood if not just the bullpen our 3 4 and 5 hitters we need a power hitter with a good obp and only guys i can think we could get is gonzales or maybe lind in toronto but i think that would cost us alexi and others so if i had to trade alot i would rather go for adrian gonzales and i feel buehrle would help us get him in a 3 way trade
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) If he gets traded, it won't be this offseason. The Sox like their rotation. i admit there rotation would be very good but in todays game a good bullpen and good hitting is needed to win . i mean the sox this year had more quility starts then any team in the american league and were under 500 so the rotation wasnt really the problem this year and with or without buehrle wont be the problem next year .

i know im new here but been i sox hard core fan for 30 plus years . now i know i will get hammer about trading mark but as much as i like him i believe trading him could benifit us next year and beyond . i have 2 possible trades both with st louis the first would be burhrle to st louis for kyle mcclellen and cody rasmus maybe prospects going both ways or something . my number 2 trade would be buehrle to st louis we get kyle mcclellen and san diego would get 2 or 3 prospects to go along with a package of prospects from us to get adrian gonzales . even possibly heath bell . now we also move 14 mil in salary to use in other areas . i like mark but he winning 13 games a year for me thats not worth 14 mil bucks and with peavy as our ace and hudson looking like a very good number 4 starter moving burhrle makes sense . also i have other follow on trades that could help us . ok blast away i know i will get hammer but i had to step in my new sox talk site sooner or later . take care all go sox in 2010
