  1. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 04:10 AM) His average OBP is worth even less when he gets thrown out so often. horrible baserunning: So you are trying to justify his horrible baserunning and make it sound good by saying "He takes risks"? Great argument.... did you watch any Sox games this year? you would have noticed how many terrible baserunning mistakes he made. lousy defense: errors are a stat decided by one guy that is sitting up in some booth watching the game. Errors are a pretty terrible stat to judge a players defense with. Again, since you brought up the "did you watch any Sox games this year?", did you not notice the horrible routes he takes to balls? Pods is a bad defender. I am in 100 percent agreement with everything you wrote .
  2. Nick Johnson is a big risk and he is not much of a power hitter .Like i said before we need some guys to drive in runs we had alot of baserunners last year so getting on base was not a problem . We need a true number 3 hitter and number 4 if Carlos is healthy we have our number 4 or he could be a 3 but konerko is not either so we need a big lefthanded bat and Thome, giambi , johnson are not the answer .
  3. I rather resign pods for 2 years if it would help us get Adrian Gonzales . And believe me im no fan of Pods .
  4. trade for hawpe or even atkins is a waste of roster space . I thought everyone here wants to win ? Also this nick johnson idea yeah great onbase guy who is hurt 80 percent of the time . Oh by the way we got onbase pretty good last year but we dont drive them in we need more rbi type guys i cant even count how many times we had 2 on or bases loaded with one or no outs and didnt score . COME ON PEOPLE if were going to trade lets go for a guy like adrian gonzales he is a gret onbase guy plus he will drive in runs . IF NOT HIM HOW ABOUT ADAM LIND ? Or russell branyan , adam dunn , hunter pence are all good possibilitys . We need a to go after gonzales the way we did M. CABRERA but detriot out bid us but that was a statement trade for detroit . NOW we need to make one . GO FOR KENNY go after gonzales we and you wont regret it .
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 07:29 AM) Carrasco was the 52nd rated prospect according to BA going into the season, and though he ended the season with a 4.64 ERA in AAA and was brutal in the majors, his peripherals in the minors were just fine, outside of his homers - 1.24 WHIP, 8.5 K/9, 2.6 BB/9, 1 HR/9. Compare that to Hudson, who put up 2.32 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 0.3 HR/9, 2.1 BB/9, and 10.1 K/9 over 4 levels of the minors, and more than held his own in AAA in the 4 starts he made (3.00 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 0.4 HR/9, 3.4 BB/9, and 9 K/9). The most encouraging statistic out of all of that is the 0.4 HR/9, considering Charlotte is a complete bandbox. He needs to work on his control a bit, as described by those numbers and what he displayed in the majors, but there is an absolute ton of potential there. I imagine you'd be pretty hardpressed to find any pitcher in the minors who did anything close to what Hudson did this year, and if they did it in the fashion Hudson did (with great peripherals and actual numbers to back it up) they'd be right where Hudson is today. If some GM views Hudson in the same light as Floyd and Danks, then surely you move him first. I'm still against moving Hudson for financial purposes, but it's also because he simply doesn't have the same track record as those two, but I think he can very shortly get to that point. Even considering that Padres were in a desperate situation where they needed to deal Peavy, it still says something about how the organization feels about Hudson when they said he was untouchable. I also doubt very much that the Rays would want either Danks or Floyd in a deal for Upton simply due to the financials of the situation, but that doesn't mean that some type of 3-way deal couldn't be worked out where Williams dealt one of those two for a couple of very good prospects only to flip them to the Rays for Upton. forget upton if were going to do that then go for adrian gonzales
  6. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) What other 10 players would you throw in that deal?from our minor league system ? any 10 they want period
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) As part of a deal for Adrian Gonzalez. hmmmm maybe ? i know i would like it.
  8. QUOTE (Cubano @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) Venezuela Josh Kroeger- Leones de Caracas (Lions). Caracas is the capital of Venezuela. Clevelan Santeliz and Freddy Garcia - Navegantes del Magallanes (Sailors or Mariners) Jon Link, Johny Celis, Eduardo Escobar and Joucer Martinez- Tiburones de la Guaira (Sharks) i really like this guy clevelan santeliz can anyone tell me more about him what he throws ? what are the chances he could be in the sox bullpen in 2010 ?
  9. QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) i agree i think this gonzales kid will be very goodalso love morel and retherford there not great tool type guys we all hear about . but there just ballplayers . For me thats what i want .
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 05:06 AM) I don't think anyone is going to LOVE this list simply because there are so many players to choose from when you get outside of our top 6-8 or so. Personally I'm most surprised about Miguel Gonzalez missing this list after the season he had as a rookie catching prospect. I understand it because we don't know a ton about him yet, but it's just kind of odd because 18-year-old catchers who hit the baseball open eyes very quickly. There are a lot of players capable of making big leaps up the rankings over 2010, like Morel and Retherford did this year, and Gonzalez is one of those guys.i agree i think this gonzales kid will be very good
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 04:10 AM) I've never posted on a Cardinals board before and I've never suggested that Mark be traded to the Cardinals, so I don't know what you're talking about. But if you don't think that dealing a $14M starting pitcher who will soon be entering the down-slope of his career - when you have an ace two two other young, legitimate #2's in your rotation - is a good idea, that's your business. Other people in this thread disagree with you. And, despite what you think, they're not "dumb." BTW, calling me a "shill" and a "motherf***er" don't strengthen your argument at all. yep calling people names just because they think trading buehrle can help the team is just wrong
  12. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) It'll get shot down like everywhere else I've posted it, but why not Juan Pierre? He's LA's 4th OF, I'm sure he wouldn't be too hard to acquire, he does have a hefty contract though. i agree with you maybe a trade that sends linebrink to the dodgers then pierres contract would be like 5 mil i for one like the idea 2009 Line: Games: 145 Average .308 OBP: .365 Stolen Bases: 30/42 (Wish it was higher)
  13. if we are really serious to win the world series not just winning the division then we have to get alittle bold to really compete with the angels and yankees and dodgers phils etc . so trading a starting pitcher say floyd or hudson along with flowers danks viecido or whatever the padres want in our farm system to get adrain gonzales i say do it we need a difference maker in our order not just a good bat we need a a major threat like a texiera and what pretty much all the top teams have . alot of you here want this great 5 man rotation but when playoff time comes your relying on 3 starters sometimes 4 so a good lineup and bullpen is whats needed . look at the red sox lester beckett maksuzaka or st louis carpenter wainwright pinerio were sweeped and to be honest i take those guys over our top 3 of peavy danks floyd or buehrle . so having 5 very good starters is great but in the playoffs just might not be enough so trade a starter kenny package a deal a get gonzales then make other deals to fill out our pen and lineup . if were going to make a trade people lets go for it big not for guys like hawpe ross adkins hermidia or whoever there nice pieces but not the threat we need in our lineup .
  14. how about this possible trade we get juan pierre for linebrink and a prospect so after we woul;d be paying about 5 mil for pierre with the subraction of say 5 mil of linebrinks salary . the dodgers want to move pierre as his 10 mil a year is alot for a 4th outfielder . plus linebrink will help the dodgers pen next year an is a better pitcher in the NL i think pierre is a better and cheaper option then figgins and is a upgrade to pods and would be a good LF for us
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) I agree with all of this. I think not only should Buerhle be shopped, but Konerko as well. I just don't see it happening.i agree especially about trading burhrle im sure we could get someone good from st louis for him
  16. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 06:06 AM) I'd rather find someone agreed we need some power in our lineup not just speed and onbase guys WE PLAY IN THE CELL NOT PETCO PARK
  17. i know everyone here wants to keep our rotation the way it is but to fill our bullpen problems and to bring in a real good bat like a gonzales or whoever i mean guys who may play more then another 2 yrs we will need to move one of our starters . i would prefer to trade buehrle say to st louis and take the prospects in that trade plus add some from our system to get adrian gonzales . but most here believe trading buehrle would be a crime i guess because he has been with the team so long but i think we could get good trade value for him now and use it to get gonzales . but if we dont do that then package floyd with prospects to san diego and get him .
  18. gavin floyd lucas harrell john ely steve sauer leroy hunt and brent morel or some type of package like this to san diego for adrian gonzales and if possible heath bell .
  19. it seems many are wanting a team like the twins have alot of speed bunting type players and obp types which is ok. but i think we need to remember we play 81 games in the cell building a speed team that steals 150 or more bases is great but we play in a power hitting ballpark we tried some of that speed ball if you will this year we lost 10 more games then last year we hit 185hr last yr 235 . our record when we had 10 hits or more in a game was like 43 and 13 i think . so i believe our lineup with getz rios beckham nix rameriz and if we keep pods or not and add figgins is more then enough speed types we still need a big lefthanded power guy like adrain gonzales or adam lind adam dunn . i guess what im saying is carl crawford is not what we need unless he is replacing one of our other speed type guys and to get him is to trade for him if were going to trade for anybody it should be for ADRIAN GONZALES do what the tigers did for cabrera then sign him to a 8yr 160 million dollar extention deal . if we add him and say abreu and figgins resign kotsay now we have a speed power obp type lineup that would be a true force .
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) We'll save big money on the post game buffetfunny
  21. detroit has some problems going into this offseason especially all those big contracts of players like willis who may not ever play again
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 06:18 AM) An off second half defensively? He's been a butcher in RF for years now. The older he gets the worse he gets. i believe rios will have a great year next year and we got a very good defensive cf in him to i for one like the rios pickup . i say he hits 285 25hr 105 rbis and 30sb
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Porcello will win it. i agree
