  1. i hope he can be in our lineup in 2010 .RF DH WHATEVER .
  2. but it was a good read and gave some good points .
  3. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) If you believe Phil Rogers then the organization is very high on Santeliz and this is also the first time I've seen him listed as a one pitch pitcher. From what I've read, his slider is supposed to be pretty good, maybe even plus. I read that some where also .
  4. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 04:32 AM) but why would you want to trade good prospects for him, because like someone said in a different thread. he has a ton of potential but he is a question mark. its not 100% sure thing like gonzalez. if im making a trade its for gonzalez not for upton...or am i wrong? I agree if were trading guys like hudson flowers etc then its for AGON not upton . and for those of you that think we will get upton for danks 2 and jenks your living in fantasy land
  5. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 05:24 AM) I don't think that's true about Dotel. He's on 4 out of 5 times and in those 4, he's really on. It's just that the 5th time is usually explosive. Most relievers are never as good as he is in those 4. You really have to look at relievers around the game. Relief pitchers stink, for the most part. thats why there relief pitchers i mean they pitch a inning here and there and get outs and if they pitch in the right situations they do better some get lucky and pitch to bottom oeder guys here and there . And before you know it they have pitched 45innings with a era of 2.09 and people think there great . your right most relief pitchers stink i love all this specialty stuff to 6th inn guy 7th inn guy 8th inn or setup man haha setup ? set up what ? then the closer more fancy titles . and lets not forget the left handed specialist my god today's baseball is getting to the point of not watchable so many pitching changes pitch counts even for relief pitchers ? For me its all bullsh_t were paying 5 6 mil a year to middle relief pitchers to pitch 60 to 70 inns . What happen to this game ?
  6. QUOTE (LZPride08 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) It sure as hell is better then bringing up what some people thought about bringing Bonds to the South Side Agreed
  7. I remember when i was station in Japan we went to the games when after the season was over MLB would send a semi all star team to Japan to play the japanese all stars . one year Bonds was on the team and it was easy to meet the players and get autographs . Well most Japanese want to just take pictures of the players especially with the player and Bonds who was famous over there was being asked to be in peoples pictures oh god he just went off yelling at these Japanese people being a total ass even other players on that team like OLD Robin Ventura and many others were just shocked and embaresed by the whole thing even apologizing for Bonds . Also Bonds had his own entourage and in the hotel had one floor all for him while other players were 2 to a room and as we talked to most other players not one had anything good to say about Bonds . If they didn't say something bad about him they would just laugh at your question and say its only for 2 weeks . yeah he would be a great pick up
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 04:36 AM) I don't think it's important in a sporting sense. Give me a team full of Barry Bonds' over a team full of Jim Thome's any day of the week if it means I have a better chance to win a championship. No thanks i rather lose
  9. if we get Bonds i will never watch another sox game . if KW did that then this team would be joke and a insult to its fan base . My god
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 01:36 AM) While having Affeldt as our second lefty in our pen would be nice, I don't think it's worth the offensive downgrade from Konerko to Rowand is worth it. In terms of 2010, I don't really see this trade helping us. If we sign Crisp, I'd much rather have Konerko be our DH, even if he's overpaid. Obviously, our defense would improve with Rowand in the outfield and Quentin as DH, but again, I don't think it's worth the decrease in offensive performance. Also, I know Linebrink has been terrible at times during his first two seasons, but it seems like this trade is just an excuse for getting rid of his contract. I really don't mind letting Konerko's contract expire in 2010. We are going to need the money for the raises Danks, Floyd, Quentin, etc. will be getting. Plus if we acquire Gonzalez, we're obviously going to need a lot of spare cash if we plan on offering an extension. Moreso, I really don't see a benefit to having Rowand, even if it's just for $6.5 million in 2012. We already have a player in Rios whose optimal value is in CF. Additionally, one of our top prospects, Jordan Danks, should be in CF. I don't see the benefit of adding another outfielder whose ideal position is CF. IMO, hope Linebrink has a solid 2010 and move him in the offseason. If you can move Konerko to free up cash for this year, while not taking on any money in the future, then by all means take the deal. However, I doubt it's possible without taking on a bad contract (like Rowand's), which doesn't make sense in the long-run. YOU maybe could trade Konarko if you eat say 4 to 5 mil of his contract say you trade him for a player with a contract at about 4mil being Affeldt and you ate 4 mil of konerko that leaves you with 4 mil to get a dh maybe have to add a mil or so then you filled 2 spots on your roster and 2 needs . All this assuming we traded for AGON .
  11. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 02:31 AM) The only reason people would be worried about Rice at the plate would be GIDP. Led the league in 4 seasons, career avg of 24 a season. He has something like 3 of the top 5 total GIDP seasons. This whole "most feared" thing is completely made up by his PR campaign. I will repeat this. He was intentionally walked 77 times over his career. This is good for 49th overall for that time period. You would expect the most feared hitter of his time to be a little higher on that list, right? did you ever watch rice play ? well i did many times in old Comiskey and when he came up with men on the place went silent yeah he hit into double plays later in his career he struck out to what Harold didn't if rice stayed healthy and played another 6 years to equal baines in years played he wouldn't hit 500 hrs and had 3000 hits . I AM not a big fan of rice but he was a very good player baines was good to and like rice if health wasn't a factor he would had put up better numbers but more importantly he would have played the field and would be in the H.O.F . I am not sure rice should be in the hall but if it came down to him or Harold i would have to pick JIMBO .

He was intentionally walked 77 times over his career. This is good for 49th overall for that time period. You would expect the most feared hitter of his time to be a little higher on that list, right? well if you look at the red sox lineup most years they had pretty good hitters hitting in front and behind him also most teams in the 70's and 80's didn't intentionally walk players thats more of today's game well baines best year doesn't compare to any of rices best 5 years most of rice's stats are over a 14yr career his first and last season he didn't play much and baines played basically 21yrs i didn' count his last yr also . anyway we can go back and forth on stats all day but at the time when both were in there prime who would you rather have in your lineup ?
  13. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 04:08 AM) Yes, I think they will try very hard to bring back Mauer by signing him to a long-term deal that goes well beyond the current expiration in 2010. That's where all of those additional millions might go. I don't see any sign that the Twins are about to step up and compete to sign the top free agents that are out there (Holliday, Bay, Figgins, Lackey). I think they are going to be challenged just to keep Mauer. That leaves them with roughly the same roster as they have now (but with some retooling to do, to adapt to the outdoor stadium - slap-hitting speedster Carlos Gomez is already gone), and they are giving up the #1 home field advantage in baseball. All Twins opponents, not just the Sox, will enjoy playing in Target Field more than the Twinkiedome, and will have more success there. yeah they got rid of gomez and got hardy for ss they just improved there team . don't tell me hardy is not a upgrade to harris or even cabrera . And i am 95 percent sure they will resign Mauer and if they don't they will trade him ? There lineup is much better then our lineup losing gomez was no big deal as span is there starting CF . And yes they won't be signing big name free agents but we don't either but they will sign a couple of players to fill 3rd or maybe 2nd they have less holes then we do also . there farm team is deeper then ours . And as far as that number 1 home field advantage i believe Boston the Yankees had more of a home field advantage and if you really believe they won't be able to play in cold weather and that will make them a bad team your not being realistic most of the time there 6 games out in late june and july and then here they come . I mean look at last year they were winning on the road they swept us at home as they chased down the tigers they were at one point they were 7 games out in august. I am a diehard white sox fan but i will give credit when credit is due and to think they won't be a very good team because there playing out doors now is silly . We should all be happy they can't spend money the way we can or Detroit other wise we really be in trouble look at some of the players they had to trade my god also cleveland and now Detroit . Well i for one hope they do resign Mauer i like to see teams being able to keep there top player and not lose them to free agency . ANYWAY
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) Yea, GMs do deny everything...didn't Kenny deny Rios? Go hard after Adrian, Kenny. Go hard. Hey Kenny Williams if your reading this if you get Adrian Gonzales i will buy season tickets and i live in the Philippines. But i will donate the ticket to a charity or the boys and girls club .
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) The Sox only get about 1/3 of the baseball pie in Chicago. WELL that can change
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) The Twins payroll in 2009 was $65 million. they already spent on cuddyer plus they will try to extend hardy and still have 3rd possibly 2nd base to fill and there's talk to adding another starter so thats atleast another 15mil combine for 3 to 4 spots on there roster MAUER will cost a min of 20mil even at a home discount so thats around 100mil even its 95mil thats what were spending and we don't have a mauer or morneu in our lineup there also spending 11mil on nathen . but remember there a small market what is Chicago ?
  17. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 05:34 AM) Jim Rice was... - A 8 time All Star - A 2 time Silver Slugger Winner - A MVP Winner (1978) - Finished in the Top 5 for MVP, 6 times - Led his team to 2 World Series - In the 1990 World Series he hit .333 - Played in the Field - Career Avg .293 30HR 113RBI - Got into the HOF on his 15th and Final Try. Harold Baines was... - A 6 time All Star. - A 1 time Silver Slugger Winner. - Never Won a MVP. - Never Finished in the Top 5 for MVP. - Led his team to 1 World Series - In the 1986 World Series he hit .143 - Rarely played in the Field - Career Avg .283 22HR 93RBI also Rice had some monster years from 1977 to 1979 was the best hitter in baseball best overall hitter the 2 yrs with the 15 triples each year still amazes me

  19. QUOTE (League @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) Danks was a dominant pitcher in '08 and a very solid pitcher in '09, Buehrle is being counted on as the #4 starter next year, Peavy is an ace and there is no denying that fact and Floyd had an incredible run this season after they fixed him tipping his pitches. Danks was dominant in 2008 ? he was 12-9 3.32era 195inn 182 hits 159 SO . WELL he was good but i wouldn't say he was dominant . Floyd pitched better in 08 then Danks or about the same
  20. like the one guy was saying we in Chicago were a big market i don't see why our payroll can't be in the 115 to 120 range if the team wins they fill the stadium . The Twins payroll will be about 100mil after they extend Mauer the tigers is 125 mil there problem is they have a lot of dead money paying guys who are not playing but after 2010 2011 all that will be off there books . So in a year we will be in a dog fight with those 2 teams and to be honest i believe winning our division will be harder then people want to believe . The Twins moving to a outside stadium will only make them better in the long run because they will be better on the road better playing on grass fields so don't think because there moving outside that team will be bad if anything they will be better overall .
  21. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 03:24 AM) Everyone is giving me a hard time about this thread..But I realized you guys are all being just as irrational as you say that I am. This White Sox team is mediocre. And we lost Dye and Thome. Two integral pieces to our offense. Look at the phillies. Look at the yankees. Look at the Red Sox. The cardinals. the angels. the dodgers..we wouldn't be able to compete with any of these teams..the list goes on and on....you guys are forgetting what city we live in.....it's not like we live in milwaukee....we live in a major city with fans who will come to the games if you put a great team on the field. The White Sox only fill up the ballpark when they're good, or when the cubs, yanks or red sox come to town. I think it's sad to see all of you accept mediocrity. Kenny Williams is a win now guy....but he is getting way to fancy....if the world series was really the goal...would reinsdorf have said that jake peavy is our FA signing? I for one agree with you we have a very mediocre team the Twins are better then we are look at there lineup there bullpen is better our starters are not that much better then there's. also KW said there would be major changes to our lineup from last year he said that long after we got Rios . So adding Teahen visquel are major changes ? most of you here are kidding your self's if you think this team will easily win the central . also i think a lot of you here are over valuing our starting pitchers there good not great . Oh one more thing last year we lead the league in quality starts i believe it was 96 or 97 but we only won 79 games if you look at some of those quality starts you will see us after 6inns behind 3-0 3-1 4-0 5-1 because of a couple of unearned runs and there's the games we were up 2-1 3-1 and lost and why ? Because we can't score runs how many games did we comeback after 7inns and won ? teams like the yankees red sox phillies did it again and again hell the tigers did it alot also as did the Twins . Unless we add 1 or 2 real good hitters we will see the same as last year we had the 2nd best team era in the american league but we also gave up 65 unearned runs the most in the american league . Maybe our defense will be better and we won't give up that many unearned runs but even with that i feel our offense as of now isn't any better maybe it is worst then last year . If we are really trying to win now then i would think we would spend more money and add real impact players to this team if were not then its all talk and this team will be the same as last year losing series to teams like oakland baltimore cleveland and kansas city and then we will here Ozzie rant and rave and KW telling us about the major changes he is going to make . SO lets see what happens if by spring training we have added 2 or 3 good players and 2 of those being solid hitters then i will believe there trying to win now .
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 03:55 AM) Here is it for the lazy posters. http://www.southsidesox.com/2009/11/23/117...peavy#storyjump Hey Cowley. Even Jake Peavy said it. Interesting i like it
  23. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 07:31 AM) Here's a list of most of the bad contracts in baseball. I left off bad deals that teams obviously aren't going to want to trade, like Torii Hunter, Jeter, etc. as well as bad deals where the trading team has already eaten a large portion of salary, making the deal no longer a bad one (like Lugo for example). Of what is here, is there anything that makes sense for the Sox with Linebrink and Paulie? Is there anything that makes sense for another team? Some of these deals are better than others, but feel free to mix and match because they all suck.
