  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 04:22 AM) With three very small moves, Williams has upgraded both the White Sox infield offense and the defense off of the bench too, and it seems to me that they are looking much better all-around already. Teahen is an improvement over Getz/Nix offensively and if he can put up anything similar to either his 2009 or 2007 season, Sox fans should be happy. Now you bring in a player in Vizquel who is fundamentally fantastic, plays fantastic defense, and isn't going to embarrass himself as a hitter so long as it's off of the bench, and Kotsay is just fine off of the bench as a 1B/OF type, so long as he remains in the corner outfield spots and doesn't start too much. He can also pinch run for Konerko or whoever else late in games, and that may buy the Sox an extra couple runs throughout the entirety of a season. I have absolutely no problems with what Williams has done at all this offseason. Agreed now we need a big bat so KW go get ADRIAN GONZALES PLEASE
  2. QUOTE (shakes @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) Why does everyone assume he would play in Seattle? Matsui doesn't have a good relationship with Ichiro. In fact, it's been long talked about that they don't like each other. Just recently, Matsui backed out of the WBC when Ichiro committed. Their rivalry supposedly goes back to when they were teenagers. Just because they are from the same country doesn't mean they want to play with together. Look at Renteria and Orlando Cabrera. when i was stationed in Japan sometimes i would watch Ichiro play he played for the Orix Blue Wave which was in the Pacific league while Matsui was with the Giants up North in the Central league. They were both popular there but Matsui was more popular because he was playing in Tokyo . i believed they only played once against each other in the Japanese world series . i enjoyed going to Fukuoka to watch games the manager of the Fukuoka team the Seibu Lions was Sadaharu Oh and we got his autograph many times . Japanese baseball is fun to watch in person they really get into it as fans and the teams have cheerleaders which is fun to watch . One time me and a buddy went to a game and we met Darren Jackson after the game he took us out to dinner he was so happy to see other Americans over there . We had similar experiances with other American players when they came over on the tour there believe it or not i had breakfast with Cal Ripken JR and met many players there and had some interesting things happen with players and even the CUBAN female volleyball team god i enjoyed those 4yrs station in Japan .
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) Meh.. runner on first. He pinch hits. Lays down a beauty of a bunt even with a drawn in infield. Runner moves to second. Boom, success... till the others have to step in the box for RBI opportunities. yep now if we can get a player that will get the guy in from 2nd .
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Yes, but you are out of shape people are in danger. If a baseball player is out of shape......they still get paid. When were you in? A good buddy of mine (Mike) was the Physical therapist at Coronado (sp?) from the late 90's to early 2000's. Excellent facilties. If you get to out of shape especially if your SEAL they kick you out of the service .

A good buddy of mine (Mike) was the Physical therapist at Coronado (sp?) from the late 90's to early 2000's. Excellent facilties. i was in from 1980 to 2003 i went though SEAL training in Coronado but that was in 1981 . i spent most of my career overseas places like the Philippines Japan Korea Kuwait and Afghanistan but when i was in the states i was in San Diego .
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) Here's an article with Coop's annual "all you bastards better get in shape" speech. There are some strong indicators here that this organization is more then open to the possibility that Jenksy is going to be here next year. Warning this is a Cowley article. Read at your own risk Here's some of the more enlightening passages from the Cowley opus: Don Cooper Tells Pitchers It's time to Raise the Bar "We're asking Bobby to raise the bar. Bobby is a big dude that sometimes may look like he's not in shape. He needs to raise the bar. I tell them all, 'I need you in the best shape of your life come spring training, physically and mentally.' We're challenging these guys." And later, "Reinsdorf let the players know his feelings on the topic, telling them in a team meeting late in the year that they had better show up in shape. "The players have to take some pride,'' Cooper said. "The best motivation for anyone ready to go in spring comes from inside. "We're asking Bobby to raise the bar. Bobby is a big dude that sometimes may look like he's not in shape. He needs to raise the bar. I tell them all, 'I need you in the best shape of your life come spring training, physically and mentally.' We're challenging these guys. "If we're not looking to improve, what are we doing? We're standing still then. We're raising the bar for everyone. We're not trying to hurt people. The words are 'Hey, we need you ready for the grind.' If one guy is behind the curve ... we need everybody. These words are not to bust chops or hurt you. We want this taken care of, no matter who it is. "Success, everyone has to pay a certain price - some higher than others because they aren't as physically gifted. I fill like the Sox pitching staff has represented itself well over the years, now we're asking them to raise the bar. Plus, you know you're prepared for the season because you pushed yourself to level that you never did before.'' Jenks had been the subject of trade rumors heading into the winter, especially because he stands to make $7-$8 million in arbitration. So he was already under a microscope. General manager Ken Williams has all but put a moratorium on any Jenks trade talk. So how exactly will this end? "When they all walk through those doors this spring,'' Cooper added, "we want everything behind them, everything. We want one focus, and that's winning the game that day.'' http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2009/11...its_time_t.html You would think that being a professional baseball player and being that is your career you wouldn't have to tell them to be in shape . i spent 23yrs in the U.S NAVY as a SEAL and i know i was in better shape then most major league baseball players and never did anybody have to tell me and i was making much less money then these guys make .
  7. not a bad pickup especially if he puts up the same numbers as last year .
  8. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 12:59 AM) Now if we can get Charles Nagy, Matt Williams, Carlos Baerga and Manny, our Indian collection will be complete. funny
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 04:59 AM) Ah yes, all of the "can't miss"es. LOL
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 04:27 AM) The rule 5 draft is the one where you have to keep the player on your roster for a full season to keep him, correct? correct
  11. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 02:41 AM) This was the report: So some teams were looking at him as a C, but there so far has been no indication the Sox are one of those teams. I was just saying that if we're going to be judging solely off scouting reports (which is what some here are doing by saying things like Viciedo can't stick at 3B) then Morel could also be a catcher. If he can be, I'd like to see it. Catcher interesting
  12. I think Tony Pena will be very good in 2010. In the long run we will all like that trade .
  13. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) I've mentioned this basic idea before and I think it makes some sense. Konerko to the Angels Angels prospects + GMJ + cash in 2011 to the Padres Sox prospects + Sox send cash for GMJ's 2010 contract to the Padres Gonzalez to the Sox The Angels basically swap GMJ with Konerko (nearly equal 2010 contracts) and they send prospects to the Padres because the Sox eat a portion of GMJ's 2010 salary. The Angels don't take a payroll hit in 2010 so they can still work with the same amount they have now, except now their DH hole has been filled with a guy who can sub for Morales when Morales needs a rest. The Angels eat significant cash in 2011 just as they would have to do anyway. The Sox pay a significant part of GMJ's deal (let's say $8M) in 2010. Because they moved $4M extra in Konerko, they get Gonzalez for the same price they're paying Paulie. This doesn't cut salary, but it saves the Sox from giving up more prospects because they're essentially buying $8M worth of prospects from the Angels and sending them to the Padres. The Padres move Adrian and get back GMJ on a nice contract plus other prospects as well. That could work but we would still probably have to send at least 3 prospects to San Diego to get it done but i for one would do it for AGON .
  14. well if we can't afford a guy like Adrian Gonzales giving him a extension if we did trade for him then i guess the Twins have a bigger budget then we do because it will take at least 140mil over 7 years to keep Mauer in minnesota . yes even with the hometown discount . I agree with KHP above that we could do this and i believe our budget in 2011 2012 would be at least 115 to 120mil range i mean are we always going to be at 95mil dollar payroll ? If so we will struggle in a few years as the Tigers will have a ton of money coming off the books especially a lot of dead money . So if we are not going to get a player like AGON and pay him and really compete with the teams like Yankees Red Sox Angels and the Phillies then we should just be like the Royals or Pirates and just field a AAA team . Also i think many here are relying to much on our starting rotation there is about a 40 percent chance that with our lineup as it sits right now that we will win this division . Right now the Twins lineup is much better then ours and there pitching isn't that bad especially if Slowey comes back healthy . I mean accept for Peavy there rotation of say baker slowey duesang blackburn perkins is very comparable to danks floyd buehrle garcia . Also they play better defense then we do so that makes there pitching staff stronger . I believe our pitching is a little better then there's but there lineup is better then ours at this point especially 1-7.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 04:38 AM) Trading for Peavy and picking up Rios and then not goign for it all this year...that strikes me as a poor plan. This rotation...you get into the playoffs and you could have 4 straight guys pitch CG Shutouts. We've got the fancy rotation, let's ride it before people get hurt or before they hit FA. Agreed
  16. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 04:13 AM) I think that it would be such a shame to waste a starting pitching like we have going in to this year. I really hope we strengthen the offense to balance out the team. What do you guys think about Marlon Byrd? I read that the Rangers let him become a free agent. i like byrd but his numbers are probably a little inflated from playing in Texas
  17. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 02:59 AM) That makes me feel like we can forget about an Adrian Gonzalez/Carl Crawford/Nick Johnson/Adam Dunn pipe dream. Now I know we can make some trades, but wouldn't we have to replace the people we trade with free agents? I got a feeling our line up looks something like this in 2010: Pods Beckham Quentin Konerko Thome AJP Alexei Teahen Rios if thats our lineup we won't even win our division i don't care how good our rotation might be .
  18. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) i saw him on the dogs 101 program on animal planet a few weeks ago. great show in general if you love dogs.
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) Cowleotti + Hineybird. Yeah, i don't like it much either. Edit: Wow, i didn't realize that word was an autocorrect. That's f***ing awesome!
  20. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) i love henry blanco will OZZIE
  21. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) love blanco
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I ask, why would this interest the Angels?Thats the part i don't get also i think i read almost every post here and many on other sights . And the one thing i can't get out of it is why would the Angels do this i admit i read some interesting ideas like from KHP and others but why wouldn't the Angels just trade for Adrian Gonzales them self's i admit i don't know there farm system but i would think they could put a good package together to get him . anyway i hope we get AGON as i have been saying for awhile we should get him i guess we will know soon enough . GO FOR IT KW AGON is worth it .
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Well maybe you are a true genius and none of us here know it...Hey question for you ? Why is it your telling others to tone it down and to watch there language but its ok for you to be a smart as- to me ? I read your profile its says your 12yrs old well if that is true until you accomplished half of what i have done in life . YOU my friend should tone it down .
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Well maybe you are a true genius and none of us here know it...yeah whatever
  25. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 07:09 AM) A brush with Granderson story to share: When he was a AAA player in the Detroit system, he was an instructor for a kids' winter baseball camp in Libertyville; my son attended. Not only was he a terrific teacher, but a great role model. He wore his Tigers uniform, stayed late to talk with the kids and signed autographs for all who asked. We've continued to follow his career since then and have delighted in his success (except against the Sox). I don't see how the Sox could pull of a deal for him, but what an addition he'd be.Granderson is a very nice guy i met him a few years ago at a Tigers Angels weekend series once outside the park very easy for my daughter to get a autogragh . The next day we ran into him at our hotel and again he was very easy to talk to and approach . I have met a lot off ball players and in recent years most are real jerks and some are very big AZZHOLES .
