  1. i was reading that there might be prospects involved also and that is whats holding it up . i believe i read that on mlb trade rumors
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:55 PM) Speed is not the end all be all. Just because a guy is fast doesn't make him good. I want good players, and if they happen to be fast, then so be it. Besides that, guys that can get from 1st to 3rd or 2nd to home is all the faster that they need to be. Not everyone has to be a track star. yes thank you i mean what is this speed speed speed we play in the cell people yes we need to get faster as a team overall but not lose our power 2 or 3 guys who can steal bases is plenty but more importantly is guys who can score from 2nd or even first on a double .
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) The Earl Weaver offense does work; the problem lies in the fact that you need guys who hit for average and get on base too. The Sox hit .258 (tied for last), put up a .329 OBP (10th) this year, and a .411 SLG (11th), which was good for 11th in the league in overall OPS and tied for last with a 90 OPS+. That is pathetic. Last year, the Sox finished 11th in AVG and 9th in OBP - still bad - but finished 2nd in the league in slugging; the result was 811 runs. I have no problem with a broader offensive attack, but they need to do it right. If they go ultra-grindy by manufacturing runs all the time, the offensive is going to struggle mightily. Being fundamentally sound and able to manufacture a run when you have to, yes, but nothing more than that. I totally agree with you we still need a power line up everybody seems to want this speed line up and slap bunt type hitters we play in a homerun park . Yeah we need some speed types but more importantly we need good avg guys who can hit 25 to 30 homeruns at least our 3 to 6 hitters . Thats why i would love Beckham at 2nd and getting a power guy for 3rd or if we keep him at 3rd get a guy like B. Roberts for 2nd a guy who can hit and steal bases with some pop i mean the Twins have more power then we do and there lineup 1 to 7 is much better then ours .
  4. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 01:49 AM) Would Carl Crawford be a better upgrade than Pods or Damon.HELL YES
  5. Well its not the twins they need every dollar to extend Mauer plus fill there infield holes . I can't believe its the Indians there rebuilding and if they had money to burn i would think they would have spent it on Lee . The tigers no way they don't have 10 bucks to spend let alone 10mil with all that dead money plus mags salary . So that leaves the Sox and the Royals but i can't think of is to why either would want him .
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) The Sox have invested a lot of time in Danksy and Floyd. They are the future of our rotation- lets lock him up! Our starting pitching could be absolutely filthy next year 1-5! Now if we can get some hitters so we can score some runs we might make the playoffs .
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Here's how the chase for Gonzalez lines up IMO: Definite suitors: Red Sox - Have the goods, went after him before, want him bad. Probable suitors: White Sox - Will we part with enough? Fills several offseason needs in one fell swoop. A cheap impact implayer for probably the most aggressive GM in baseball. Braves - Have Freeman coming up, but I think they'll go after him hard. They have the need. Can they make a deal without Hanson or Heyward? Dodgers - Have the need. AGonz is better than Manny and Loney combined by a mile. Imagine a lineup of Gonzalez-Manny-Ethier-Kemp 3-6. Devastating. Possible suitors: Rays - This makes a lot of sense with Pena close to FA. A 3-way where Pena goes elsewhere would have the Rays actually cutting salary and improving the team. They have the pieces and are a serious darkhorse IMO. Giants - Have the need and the pieces. Makes sense for them to join the mix. Orioles - Seems unlikely, but I think they're a darkhorse. They've been trying to make a splash for a while now and have a big hole at 1B. They have the pieces, and tons of financial flexibility for a major extension. Possible, but unlikely: Yankees - They're here because they're the Yankees, but I don't think they'd give up enough for a DH since they have Tex at 1B. Plus AGonz probably wouldn't want to stick around to DH when he could be starting in the field elsewhere. Rangers - Have the stuff to do the deal right now, but they won't be handing out an extension, and they're almost completely rebuilt, and they have Smoak on the way. Angels - Not trading the world for a DH after Morales broke through for them. Mets - I don't see them trading what they would have to in order to land Gonzalez. They'll look to spend for improvements. Very unlikely: Mariners - Rebuilding. A's - Rebuilding. Indians - Rebuilding. Tigers - Can't trade the required pieces because they're bogged down with bad contracts. Royals - Rebuilding. Twins - Have Morneau and will concentrate on a Mauer extension this offseason. Blue Jays - Rebuilding. Phillies - Ryan Howard. Could they get in on Halladay again? Nationals - Rebuilding. Marlins - New park won't be ready until 2012 and Adrian is a FA after 2011. Cubs - They're so f***ed with bad contracts that they're unable to deal cheap players. Not a chance. Plus they still have Lee. Brewers - Prince, and their needs are SP. Pirates - Rebuilding. Cardinals - Pujols. Reds - Alonso and Votto are already there and they should be looking for an OF. Rockies - Helton, and they're not dealing their new core. Diamondbacks - Rebuilding. Astros - Berkman, and a deal wouldn't make any sense given all of their needs. Padres' biggest needs (in order IMO): top-end SP, toolsy OF, C, top-end RP, 3B, 2B. They have Latos at the front of their future rotation, Cabrera at SS, Venable in a corner somewhere, and Blanks at 1B. Kouzmanoff, Bell, and Young shouldn't be factors because if AGonz is for sale, all of those guys will be too. interesting but i don't think the padres will want to trade him to the dodgers . and they may take a little less just to get him out of the national league but especially out of the division . i would hope we are in on a possible trade for him as we were with M. Cabrera a couple years ago but i hope this time we get our man . come on Kenny getterdone
  8. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) Would you trade Hudson and Torres straight up?in a heart beat and even throw in nix and any other farm player they wanted .
  9. Holliday and Lackey will most likely sign with the yankees an they may trade for the other Halliday god i hate that org. there destroying baseball .
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) The overwhelming majority of people seem to understand Damon would be an upgrade, myself included. The question is, at what cost. If Pods was available at 2/$10m, and Damon at 2/$20m, which would you rather have? Damon its not my money .
  11. Also the Sox may spend more money then you all think . I mean no one here knows what there going to do or how much there budget will be . I for one would think they would spend more this year because they have a strong rotation . But i don't know either but to try and fill out a lineup and fix the bullpen on the cheap with the rotation we have would be stupid because if they win in the long run they will make money .
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 05:51 AM) Why don't we just try and develop our own players from the system instead of trading for every non-performing prospect of any othr org? agreed
  13. if they can't get a better player for right field then ok . but i hope he is not our first choice .
  14. if he would come back for 1yr 4mil incentive type deal i say ok .
  15. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) Yeah but it seems everytime you start a trade proposal with the opposing team's forum they wanna rape and plunder. I mentioned this very idea and they want Gordo right off the bat knowing he is as close to untouchable in the bigs as it gets. I mention Flowers/Huddie but get laughed at also. Just think he would fit in really well with his offense/defense, OBP, UZR, and HR/RBI all point to very productive years at the Cell. yeah but it does not matter if the other team fans like the idea . i mean Flowers and Hudson AND A FEW MORE GOOD PROSPECTS should get a deal done i know the padres want a catcher and are interested in flowers as he was part of the deal they wanted with Atlanta to get Peavy last year but Atlanta wouldn't put him in the deal . anyway i hope KW at leasts tries to make a deal for ADRIAN .
  16. QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 20, 2009 -> 02:31 AM) Here's an excerpt from a BA article written by Phil Rogers on October 19th, 2009... Following two down seasons dealing with an injured shoulder, the 24-year-old righthander re-established himself as a prospect by going a combined 12-4, 3.27 between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. But he didn't stop there. Harrell followed up on his success by throwing 10 scoreless innings for Team USA in the World Cup, including four against Cuba. He allowed only two hits in his 10 innings. "Real impressive," said Kirk Champion, the White Sox's minor league pitching coordinator who also served as Team USA's pitching coach. "He really embraced the whole experience, and it showed." Harrell has three effective pitches, the best of which is his sinker. He gets a lot of ground balls—his groundout-to-air out ratio this year was 2.3-to-1—which is no small thing for a team based at U.S. Cellular Field, one of the better home run hitter's parks in the majors. Great to read something that is very positive about him thanks .
  17. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) I am curious what anyone/everyone on the board would think would be realistic to propose as a trade to the Pads for Agon? I think he solves our left handed power problems for years to come if we lock him up for an extension. I know he is from SD and loves it there but he wants to win as much as anyone. I for one would love for them to make that trade then sign him to a long term extension the way Detroit did with Cabrera .
  18. I am not really a fan of either one of them . I wonder how C.J Retherford could do if given the playing time . Would he be better then both Nix and Getz ?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) So they will have four players making the entire expected payroll of the Chicago White Sox, who are a top 10 MLB payroll. Wow.but there is not a problem in baseball funny .
  20. I don't believe he will get anywhere near 40-60 million most likely 20-25 million for 4 to 6yrs .
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 04:48 AM) The Sox will look at moving the following guys (not saying they will) because ultimately to do some more re-tooling of the lineup salary needs to be moved and these are the guys that I think they look at or even consider (although Buehrle is a clear long-shot). In no way am I saying they have to move these guys: Bobby Jenks Paul Konerko Scott Linebrink Mark Buehrle yep i can believe they will try to trade 1 or all 4 of those players .
  22. QUOTE (madbilly @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 03:29 AM) My bad I meant Randy (he isn't anywhere as horrible as Gobble is) WE SHOULD RESIGN Jimmy Gobble he was lights out .
  23. In 4 to 5 years the Yankee payroll will be 300 million and from what I'm reading hear we will be around 100 mil . Its bad enough every time you read about a rumor on say yahoo or espn fox sports its always the Yankees Red Sox mets mentioned in the rumor . Like the one i read yesterday about Puljos maybe being traded and yep its the Yankees Red Sox being the 2 teams that could get him amazing . I mean where would the Yankees play him ? FOCKING DH ? THERE GOING TO SPEND 25 MIL A YEAR ON A DH ?
