this is the feel good story of the year.
-
Danny Wright's 3 Big League Seasons 2001- 5-3 with a 5.70ERA in 66 IP 2002- 14-12 with a 5.18 ERA in 196 IP 2003- 1-7 with a 6.15ERA in 86 IP

i'll play devils advocate.. how many good years has Wright had? Cotts? Rauch?
-
watch him win the #5 spot in spring training and then promptly win 15 games this yr. then again he's never had an era under 4.30.
-
Can the Sox afford to have 5 OF's? It sounds like the 4 keepers are Lee, Ordonez, Rowand and Reed. Where does that leave Borchard. Back at AAA?
-
ESPN's scounting report comment on Jeremy Reed Although Reed's running speed is "just" above average, he is aggressive and refined on the bases, and should continue to steal at higher levels.
-
lets make Konerko or Thomas the leadoff hitter. Their speed is amazing.
-
i like Lee hitting 2nd. makes for a nice 2-6 with Lee, Ordonez, Thomas, Konerko and Crede.
-
maybe I should add other to the list.. and who that other may be?
-
who is our leadoff hitter? Willie Harris- Career .213 hitter with a .255 OBP Aaron Rowand- Career .273 Hitter with a .325 OBP Jose Valentin- Career .246 Hitter with a .324 OBP Juan Uribe- Career .258 Hitter with a .298 OBP

Norton would be a nice backup for 1B. Unless you want big Frank out there giving Pauly a day off.
-
thanks.. i did notice that the Dodgers have 22 pitchers on their AAA roster.
-
I've noticed that in November the WhiteSox transfered a lot of players from A, AA up to AAA. In fact their AAA roster is pretty large. What is the theory behind this and will most of these guys stay in AAA to start the year or end up back at A or AA where they started? Thanks

Associated Press DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies failed to reach an agreement with Greg Norton, leaving one of baseball's best pinch hitters free to negotiate with other teams. The Rockies offered salary arbitration to Norton and Mark Sweeney last month, but Norton declined it on Dec. 19. Sweeney agreed to a minor league deal on Monday. The Rockies had until Thursday to sign Norton, but will now have to wait until May 1 if they want to re-sign him. Norton has been one of Colorado's most versatile players in his three seasons there. His .275 average as a pinch hitter is the best in the majors since 2001, and his 41 RBIs and nine homers are also tops in that span. A switch hitter, Norton led the majors with 23 pinch hits and 17 RBIs last season, and hit .324 in 78 appearances off the bench. He hit .263 overall with six homers and 31 RBIs in 114 games. Norton played mostly third base for the Rockies, but he's also played in the outfield and appeared at every infield position. Norton is a career .249 hitter with 59 home runs and 226 RBIs in a six-year career that started with the Chicago White Sox. Sweeney's signing made it unlikely the Rockies would make an offer to Norton. Sweeney is a good pinch hitter -- .295 last season -- can play several positions, and his minor league contract was more in line with what the Rockies wanted to pay a utility player. Norton made $600,000 last season and was expected to get a raise.

but in the case of talent, we are going backwards. We've replaced Colon, Everett, Alomar, Sullivan, Graffanino, Gordon, Daubach (not that he's that great of a loss) with Uribe, Politte and a bunch of minor league guys. To be honest I could care less about total payroll. I could have a team full of Mark Buehrle's and their $350k 2002 salaries as long as the talent level is there.
-
now only if they had some pitching they could hang with NY and BOS. adding Javier Lopez, Vlad, Rafael, Tejada and maybe even getting Ponson back?
-
do you plan on going to more, less or the same amount of games as last year?
-
except for the fact that Valentin is a .240 hitter and Cabrera hit .297 last yr.

Simas agrees to minor-league contract with Dodgers Jan. 6, 2004 SportsLine.com wire reports LOS ANGELES -- Right-hander Bill Simas agreed to a minor-league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and will attend spring training as a non-roster invitee. Simas, who pitched for the Chicago White Sox from 1995-2000, was 4-0 with a 1.96 ERA in 26 games -- three of them starts -- for the Dodgers' Las Vegas farm club of the Pacific Coast League last season. He walked nine and struck out 25 in 46 innings. While pitching for the White Sox, Simas had an 18-19 record and a 3.83 ERA. He joined the Dodgers organization last spring. The Dodgers announced the agreement Tuesday. He would get a $700,000, one-year contract if he's added to the major league roster. AP NEWS The Associated Press News Service

ESPN.com news services PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a contract with 12-time All-Star second baseman Roberto Alomar, his agent confirmed Tuesday. A team source told The Associated Press on Monday night that a deal was imminent. Alomar, 35, has been working out in the Phoenix area for several weeks. Adding Alomar would cement an infield that includes Shea Hillenbrand at third, newly acquired Richie Sexson at first and Alex Cintron at shortstop. The addition of Alomar would free Matt Kata -- a rookie last season -- to move into the utility role previously occupied by Craig Counsell, because Kata can play second, shortstop or third. Alomar, entering his 17th big-league season, became a free agent when the Chicago White Sox declined to offer him arbitration. Alomar had a disappointing stint with the New York Mets before being traded to Chicago on July 1. Alomar earned $8 million in the final year of his contract last season, but reportedly was willing to take less from the financially strapped Diamondbacks, despite more lucrative offers elsewhere. After two sub-par seasons, he would come to Arizona motivated to return to the form that he showed through most of a career that could land him in the Hall of Fame. Alomar came to New York in an eight-player trade with Cleveland after batting .336 with 20 home runs and 100 RBI for the Indians in 2001. A 10-time Gold Glove winner, he hit just .266 in 2002, matching a career-low he set in his rookie season in 1988. Alomar was batting just .262 when the trade to Chicago was made, and batted .253 for the White Sox. Alomar began his major league career in San Diego, then played for Toronto, Baltimore, Cleveland, the Mets and the White Sox. He would be the second significant acquisition by the Diamondbacks, who sent Counsell, Junior Spivey and four other players to Milwaukee for Sexson on Dec. 1. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

there has been no news on Alomar that I know of.. I'd bet he re-signs with the Sox for cheap.
