    I gone

Hey all, I know I've been an infrequent poster at best, but I've always kept tabs on what was going on over here. Alas, today is my last day of work, and as such, the last day of unlimited internet access combined with the time to utilize it. I'll be on vacation for 10 days starting this saturday, and back to school after that where, much to my despair, the engineering curriculum will keep me from keeping up with all the Sox gossip as I can during the summer. With luck, next June I'll acquire a job where I can post again. So, until then, may this fun late summer turn into an even more enjoyable fall. As always, GO SOX! Best, Delben
  2. Willie Harris perhaps? I don't know, we can use him for his defense and pinch running...but I'd rather not lose White altogether, we don't have enough bullpen arms as it is... The only other option besides Harris would appear to be Ginter.
  3. Probably the team the Sox will have to fight for the Central Division crown. But that's a worry for later. For now, take 2 of 3 from Seattle and really convince me the Sox are finally back.
  4. Take Care of Business? probably wrong, but it's all I could think of
  5. cy young snyder lol... wonderful.. we never faced him AND were on the road... this should be interesting.......... well...at least it's not a day game too Regardless of what the Sox do tonight, the Seattle series makes me very nervous. Especially with Wright on the hill. KC goes to play Tampa Bay after the Sox leave town, so we'll need to take 2 from Seattle to keep pace.
  6. I think KW would be hard pressed to find a team that would take Rick White. If he can though, and get something decent in return, I'm all for it. Adding another righty for the pen would be especially sweet.
  7. Those dates are: at Anaheim, at Texas, Texas, either Minnesota (9th) or at Boston (13) and then likely either home against KC or the Yankees.
  8. This was a "draft recap" I believe, not a minor league system analysis.
  9. Still 2-1 Minnesota after 5 innings.
  10. If I recall he's been horrible whenever he's gotten a shot in the majors. I could be wrong on that though. Assuming for the moment that I'm remembering correctly, the catch appears to be that he's a AAAA player.
  11. I'm all for going after Suppan. We could likely get him rather cheap too. Maybe for a mid-level quasi-prospect, Pittsburgh seems to be taking just about anything.
  12. Huge Dolphins fan here...love the signature BigHurt!

    Hummel

Just throwing this out there for anyone with a perspective on our minor leaguers... Tim Hummel seems to be putting together a "decent" year down in AAA. Don't know how his fielding has been, but hitting .284 with a .350 OBP, and a 1:7 K:AB ratio. Not setting the league on fire by any means, but does he still have a future in the organization? And Brian Cooper isn't a name I hear too much about, but he pitched well yesterday for Charlotte, 7.2IP, 0ER. And he's sporting a 3.60 ERA, with a 2.7:1 K:BB ratio. Any chance he'd be able to help the Sox down the stretch this year (september call up) and in the coming years? Thanks for any info.
  14. As far as Malone goes, Texas is welcome to try.
  15. Yeah, kick some driving test ass and BE GOOD BigHurt.
  16. I try not to think about such things, it's too depressing.
  17. As a Dolphins fan, I'm obligated to proclaim Dan Marino as the best QB ever. Having gotten that out of the way, I do think Montana and Elway should rank ahead of him as more complete QBs. They won super bowls (though it's not entirely Marino's fault he didn't), we're "great leaders" (though Marino may have been as well), etc. However, I would argue that based on pure ability, Marino was the best "passer" ever. No one I've seen had the physical gifts to rival his arm, release, and accuracy or his consistency. Just my opinion.
  18. Yeah, it says in the Tribune that the Rangers seem to like Webster, Rupe, and Malone. (See about halfway through the article).
  19. LDF and I are usually on the same page, and I've got no problem dealing Lee and Colon, but I love Maggs. Why would you want to deal him LDF? Too expensive?
  20. Yeah, Honel was called up to Birmingham to take Cotts' spot in the rotation while Cotts pitched in the Futures game. After making the start, Honel was sent back down to Winston-Salem.
  21. Ok, correct me if I'm wrong...but the Sox are 4 under now. If they take 3 of 4 from Detroit, the 3 wins would put them 1 under, but then the loss would put them back to 2 under...right? I'm not trying to be a pain, because I agree whole-heartedly with your point. The Sox have to dominate this next homestand to have any shot. Let's get it started tonight guys, kill the kitties!!
  22. Hey guys, it's been a while, but I'm back, at least sporadically. Anyway, I caught these today in the Sun-Times (see #4) and the Tribune (see #3). It seems that Porzio is going to get a few more starts (2 according to the Tribune) before the team makes a decision about whether to bring Danny back up or not. Personally, I've always been a big fan of Danny Wright. I think he's got great stuff, and one of the better, if not the best fastball among the starters in the Sox system. Like Garland, until recently, he's been plagued by inconsistency, but he manages to scatter just enough sterling performances in there to make me think he can somehow put it all together. Granted, if the Sox are trying to get back in the race, whatever slim chance they have won't be helped by Danny struggling to find his command. However, does that mean Porzio is the answer? I don't think so.
  23. Courtesy of The Sporting News: Click here for the entire team report. I for one wouldn't mind seeing him gone, he's been pretty much unable to get slumping hitters turned around on anything resembling a regular basis. At the same time, I know nothing about Greg Walker, so whether he'd be an upgrade or not, I don't know.
  24. You know I'd rather he look awful in the "solo" at bat and looked very good in the "bases loaded" one...Just sayin' BTW I was responding to Chisoxfn Yeah, I know, just putting in my two cents.
