QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) I believe he means this year. If pitchers pitched a lot already in college/HS, sometimes they'll start them out in the pen after being drafted. I'm sure he'll be a starter long term. I expect him to have workload similar to Thad Lowry's workload last season, a mix of starts and relief appearances averaging 3 innings per appearance.

The AZL team has a lot of interesting names on the roster that should be fun to follow this season, most notably for me Spencer Adams (duh!), Micker Adolfo (double duh!), Victor Done, Luis Martinez, Barraza, Jake Jarvis, Jeffry Santos & Antonio Rodriguez. Lots of raw talent down there, should be some really ugly games with some really great games to check on.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) Also, Bradley Salgado has taken to the mound nicely so far. Tonight he went 3 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 7 Ks. Salgado now has 9 K in 4 IP this year. He hasn't given up a walk yet either which is really impressive for someone transitioning from a position player to a pitcher to have such an early command of the strike zone.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Great Falls roster is up now, with a lot of 2014 picks on it. No AZL Sox roster yet. We'll have a GF preview soonish. Ethan Wilson, Dane Opel and Matt Lane start on DL. Nick Parent and Nick Blount are both on the restricted list due to their PED suspensions. Thanks for the link, I'm excited to see what Matt Ball and Toby Thomas do this year. -
Danish pitched over a pretty inexcusable error by DeMichele that put runners on 1st and 3rd with no out to strand the runners right there with a pretty K and a couple of shallow pop-ups. Showed some good mental toughness to get out of that with no damage.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 06:32 AM) For Saladino I just want a bigger sample size before I can believe it. His last two years were very disappointing, especially in the power department. 200 PA's is not enough to forget his previous 1000. Potential is definitely there for him to move up the rankings. It should be mentioned that Saladino was put into the leadoff spot for the past two seasons which probably had a dramatic effect on his approach at the plate. If you notice in his stats from the past two years that his average and power numbers are down but his OBP and SB numbers exploded to the upside. Now that he has been placed lower in the lineup it appears that he is more aggressive at the plate which has translated into higher power numbers. I think Saladino is the type of really good baseball player that are prevalent in the franchises that have been able to build their organization organically like the Rays and Cards, he's not a flashy athlete but a guy that understands how to play the game from the ground up. I love L. Garcia's tools but right now I'd rather see Saladino in that spot.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) 1) Rodon 2) Anderson 3) Johnson 4) Hawkins 5) Montas 6) Danish 7) Davidson 8) Adams 9) Sanchez 10) Ravelo I think this is probably the most accurate top 10, way too early to rate Adams over Danish when Danish just dominated the Sally League.

Saladino has been on fire recently, .429/.667/1.095 over his last 10 games and adds another triple today. I hope Hahn is working on some way to move some of the middle infield players, between Semien, Micah Johnson, Sanchez & Saladino there's at least 3 major leaguers in that group for only 1 potential open spot next year depending on what they do with Beckham.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 05:42 AM) Not referring to the HISTORICAL, fielding-only version of Escobar, but the .781 OPS, 15 doubles in 130+ ab's version. THIS year. Career-wise, he's at only .646, or basically what Gordon Beckham has produced the past 3 seasons, more or less. A slightly better version of Andy Gonzalez, maybe. But, if you honestly believe Saladino can come up this season and put up those numbers, then he should be starting somewhere in the White Sox line-up on a nearly everyday basis. I've always seen Saladino's realistic comparison as Tony Graffanino to Sean Rodriguez if everything clicks.

Lowry is looking at a rained-shortened no-no right now.

Lowry's dealing for Kanny tonight, 5 Ks over 4 innings already.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) Ravelo gets shafted. QFT. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) Aiken or Rodon What if they're both there? Great problem to have but I'd have to go with Aiken...

Seems like moving Trayce up to leadoff has had a positive impact on him, homers in each of the two previous games and a double today. Maybe this forced him to change his approach at the plate, hopefully he can sustain it for the rest of the season. On a side note Ravelo got his 6th HBP today, will easily set his career high this season. I wonder if the inflated total has something to do with how many long at-bats he keeps racking up, like the pitchers just don't want to battle him so they plunk him and move on?

I didn't realize Montas was such a thick dude, definitely looks the part of a workhorse.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) I doubt a player we are talking about cutting from our terrible AAA team will net a top 50 pick. Has there been discussion to cut Saladino? I thought they've been moving him around to develop him as a utility player.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) Neither of those guys will get you a comp pick, not a chance. You need to talk more Sanchez to even be in that discussion, and I'm not sure even that would get it done. If that's the case then I'm legitimately surprised considering what Bryan Morris was able to get in return, he's been pretty mediocre and has extremely limited upside even as a middle reliever. With Garcia and Saladino they're still young enough that there is still some projectability in them and the floor being an adequate utility player which in my mind is the equivalent to a middle reliever. Trading Sanchez actually might be worth the competitive balance pick, I really like him and have been a fan of his even before his breakout season a couple of years ago but we desperately need to trade someone to clear up our middle infield situation and that might be the best return available.
-
Seems like trading from our middle infield depth for a Competitive Balance pick makes the most sense, I wonder if L. Garcia or Saladino could net a Comp. Balance B pick from a team looking for a pro-ready utility guy. Saladino seems like a good fit with the Rays and Cards style of play, nothing flashy but solid all-around baseball skills.

Paulino removed from Rehab assignment

I wouldn't mind taking a run at Gallardo if the Brewers don't pick up his option for $13 million, maybe sign McCarthy if he can be had for cheap. -
Ravelo tried to steal home, loving this kid even more. I think I'll have to start calling him "juevos" or "cojones." (Pronounced coh-jones of course)

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 27, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) Going back some, I thought Jeremy Reed was gonna be a STUD. Like amazing player. He could field, he could run, he could walk, hit for an amazing average. I am most surprised that he didn't even become a solid major leaguer. Hadn't thought about that name in YEARS, how could you not get your hopes up about him after 2003?
-
I was really looking forward to Jake Cose this year, that ended before it started. Historically speaking I thought CJ Retherford was going to be the next Casey McGehee after his breakout year in Birmingham, pretty sad to see him struggle and not in Indy ball.
-
Kevan Smith 3 for 4 with a double and a couple of RBIs, putting together a very solid season. In fact both he and Phegley have been been having very productive seasons.

Danks threw 3 bullpens before this start

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) MLB Stat of the Day @MLBStatoftheDay 1h John Danks is first @whitesox since 1914 to have winless outing featuring at least 8 scoreless IP, 0 walks and no more than 3 hits allowed. He got Samardzija'd. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2014 -> 10:54 PM) How does that explain what's going on with Erik Johnson? I don't think it does. I think everyone is puzzled about his recent drop in velocity, even the front office and coaching staff, that's why they sent him down to Charlotte to find his velocity.
