  1. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) robin's not a hof'er. let's be honest. but he's a fan favorite. same as dye No Robin's not a HOF'er, but he's a lot closer than Dye.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) Ventura--decent career. Not close to being a hall of famer. Played about 8 full years with the Sox. Didn't win a championship. Not worthy of a retired number. Not even close. In 8 years with the Sox, Ventura had a WAR of 38.8. In 14 years with the Sox, Baines had a WAR of 23.3. Ventura's career WAR is 55.5 which puts him right in line with many, many HOF'ers.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) I don't think any of those guys had the impacts that Robin and Jermaine did. Not even close. Robin I believe could be retired by himself. I agree on Robin. I just don't think Dye should be a part of it. To have your number retired, you should have to be a borderline HOF.
  4. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) albert belle will never be honored by this team. in fact, brooks boyer made a joke about him at blog night also, tony phillips? really? jordan? cmon.... one thing that has bubbled in this thread i agree totally...sox need an honest to goodness HOF again...and not just as the entry-way to teh gift shop. it sickens me that you need to be a scout seat holder to see the former sox HOF items in any shape or form. and that STHs get one chance(grinder bash) to see the same items. I know Belle would never be honored. My point was if you combine players, you could make a hall of fame career out of almost any number. If 23 were ever retired, I would hope it would be for Robin and Robin alone.
  5. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) ventura - one of the best sox 3b ever. and a member of the all-century team. dye - world series mvp, put up good numbers in his five year span. yeah, teh 2nd half of 2009 sucked. again, i would have them retired TOGETHER. how hard is that to comprehend? So would retire #30 for Raines/Maggs. Or #8 for Belle/Bo Jackson/Tony PHilips? Maybe 45 for Jenks/El Caballo/Jordan. I mean if you combine players, you could have plenty of great retired numbers.
  6. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) I like Carlos a lot too. I don't see the Phils giving up Brown for him, I think he can be just as good. If they offered Brown, you gotta take it. I like Carlos too. But with a ready made replacement at a fraction of the cost you have to trade him if you can get something good for him.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) He may or may not be overrated, but he's a hall of famer. Hard to argue he isn't worthy of it. Agreed. Definate HOF. Not too many 2B that had his kind of career.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:55 AM) Especially not that number. Not in this city. You want to retire #23 in Chicago you better have done something historic. Sandberg worthy enough for you? Personally I think he's overrated.
  9. Konerko with out a doubt will get his number retired and a statue. Buehrle has a good shot especially if he signs like a 3 year extension and can get up over 200 wins. Dye was great and I a can see having some sort of "Jermaine Dye Appreciation Day", but absolutely no to a # retirement or statue. That would open the flood gates for AJ, Ventura, Raines, Maggs and a whole laundry list of players who had 5/6 good to great seasons with the Sox.
  10. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Lets hope that Rios got released Why do people keep acting like this is a possibility? There's no way the Sox can absorb 40+million just to release him.
  11. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) Seeing what PK has done this year, I too think getting a deal done for Mark is on for the offseason. I don't think this would be a salary dump only. Like I said, Frasor would help the bullpen. Yet the Teahen savings does make a difference. And more deals could be made as well. If not by the deadline, Quentin in the off-season makes sense. Yea we have a ready-made replacement for CQ at about 1/8th the cost. I hate to see him go, but trading him just makes too much sense whether it's this year or in the off-season. I don't think Frasor is a lights-out reliever by any means, but I would imagine if they do make this trade, they will pick up his option. 3.75mil ain't too bad for what he will give you.
  12. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:59 AM) Lost in the discussion could be a way of finding enough cash to sign Mark Buerhle after this year. The savings of both E-Jax and Teahen for the rest of this year, plus next for Teahen, even after factoring Frasor's option, could help. It'll take more. But it's a start. We will for sure have Jackson and Pierre off the books next year even if this deal doesn't go down. I'm not sure on their exact salaries but I think Jackson and Pierre are about $8,000,000 each. Combine that with Buehrle's 14,000,000 and that's $30,000,000 off the books right there. Plus, I feel CQ will be traded. If they can shed Teahen's contract, that's just icing on the cake, but I don't think this current rumored trade is the best way to do it. Their should be money in there to re-sign Buehrle cause I don't think he will try to break the bank. I can't imagine JR letting Buehrle walk. Even if KW doesn't want to re-sign Buehrle (I have no idea his thoughts), I see JR doing like he did with Frank Thomas around 2002, when Frank and JR sat down and hashed out a deal without KW.
  13. I would love to see it be his swing right at the point of contact with his back foot about a foot off the ground. That would be pretty cool.
  14. Yep. Now I see this follow up. From: @ChrisDeLuca Sent: Jul 26, 2011 12:05p sculpture of Thomas, which will be located on main concourse in left field, is the eighth in a series of sculptures honoring team legends. sent via TweetDeck On Twitter: http://twitter.com/ChrisDeLuca/status/95887391604215808
  15. From: @ChrisDeLuca Sent: Jul 26, 2011 12:03p A life-sized sculpture of #WhiteSox legend Frank Thomas will be unveiled at U.S. Cellular Field before Sunday’s game vs. #RedSox. sent via TweetDeck On Twitter: http://twitter.com/ChrisDeLuca/status/95886979203465216
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Rios has been so bad that it's hard to see him rebounding. It's amazing how many of our hitters become mentally f***ed once they get here. Maybe not rebounding back to his old self, but I can't see any way he is this bad again.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) Forget about RF. If Carlos is traded, that is reserved for Dayan. I think if they do get Ramus. CQ is gone no questions asked. They would have to clear a spot for Viciedo and Rios is un-tradeable. Next years outfield would potentially be Rios/Rasmus/Viciedo or Rasmus/Rios/Viciedo. If Rios can rebound at all, that could be a really good outfield both offensively and defensively.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:07 AM) "Defensive potential" is a hard thing to gauge, but his defense has been somewhat below average as a CF this year. Yea he has been a little off, but as a rookie he had a 1.7 dWAR. It is hard to gauge, but with great speed and a great arm, plus I think good instincts that equates to "defensive potential" to me anyway.
  19. QUOTE (JoeBatterz @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) I dunno, don't we have enough of dem guys who are hitting under .250 already. I'm just saying. No we seem to be lacking in the department of 5 tool players with elite potential who are cost-controlled for the next 3 years. People really need to start looking past Rasmus's struggles this year. He is only 24, and even with his bad season he still has an OPS in the neighborhood of .750 which is better than half of our team. He's got great speed, great power from a small frame, a cannon for an arm (he's been clocked in excess of 95MPH), great defensive potential, and should wind up being in the neighborhood of a .280 - .300 hitter. The one thing he's got against him is that his own manager has a personal vendetta against him for what ever reason. It's hard to succeed in that environment, combined with the fact that his hitting coach was an all or nothing juicer that really couldn't hit a lick. I don't get it. What's not to like about this kid?
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) Huh? He is actually using the situation to keep some pressure off of Santos by leaving the LHP in there to get the LHH out thus making the situation easier for Santos. If the other manager goes to a RHH, Guillen pulls the LHP and brings in Santos. It is actually a very good strategy. If I were Sergio, all that would do is say Ozzie doesn't trust me enough to even attempt the save.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Hope you are kidding. Who cares? What he did worked again. You've got a closer for a reason. And everybody knows what happens to closers in non-save situations. Even the best lose that edge.
  22. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) "Kenny Williams shoots down the Colby Rasmus rumor. "That report is incorrect." @ChuckGarfien twitter Now what do we make out of this. KW has long wanted Rasmus for a while so this might be one of his tricks. Means nothing coming from Kenny.
