QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) He had a deceptive delivery. But hitters will adjust to that, which is pretty much what they did after 05. xFIP thought Cotts would regress after 05 and of course...he did and ended up giving up a HR on 18% of his fly balls in 06. Hermanson was another lucky SOB. The Sox just had everything go right for them that year. Plus, remember when Buehrle appeared to have broken his foot in ST and was going to be out for like two months? He shutout the Indians on opening day. 2005 was a true gift from the baseball gods. Not quite everything went right. We did play the majority of the season without our biggest star and future hall of famer. Can you imagine if they had The Big Hurt even at 75% for the whole year? They would have won 105 games easy.

QUOTE (whitem0nkey @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) this is why it is an issue. 1.the gay community is fighting to have equal right like straight people and not be 2nd class citizens. 2.how many active gay baseball players do you know? they cant even be themselves and have to pretend to be straight in the public eye. this is the same as some one some one in 1955-1968 writing "GETZ IS BLACK! G.B.," The only reason its an issue at all is because people have become so uptight and just look for something to whine about.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) Really? I don't see it. Not bad or anything, but not that hot. She mostly seems like the type of girl whose costumes usually include "slutty". Some guys find that hot. I remember when the story started three years ago, I saw her in People magazine or something like that and thought she was hot. I look at her now and not so much anymore. I think the 3 years in prison have not been kind to her. That being said, if she did make a porn, I would watch it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) i was at one company who would pay you, but you had to sign over your jury check to them in order to get paid. The company I work for is the exact same way. I had to serve a few days a couple years back. It was pretty sweet tho, two of the days I didn't get picked so was outta there in like 30 minutes. I still got the entire days pay from work tho.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 06:42 AM) Except who are you going to get to replace Mark Buehrle and Jackson? Our rotation next year is going to be at least one starter short, assuming Peavy stays healthy. There's at least a 50/50 chance he isn't healthy again coming into 2012. So that's potentially 2 starters. And that Humber continues to pitch like a frontline starter instead of a journeyman/AAAA/filler pitcher. I'm thinking that Buehrle will be re-signed. To me next years rotation will look like this: Buehrle, Peavy, Floyd, Danks, Humber. That is unless they can move Danks. If that happens, maybe Sale will get his shot.

While I believe that she probably did murder that poor child, had I been on the Jury I would not have been able to find her guilty. As others have said, almost all of the evidence was circumstantial. They could never even determine a cause of death. How can you convict somebody of murder when you don't even know if a murder occured? The defense had all kinds of crazy stories that were off the wall and probably B.S., but remember the burden of proof is on the prosecution. They have to prove that she committed the crime, the defense does not have to prove that she didn't. There is a lot of flaws in our justice system, but as much as it sucks to say, I think the jury got it right. There just was not enough evidence to warrant a murder conviction.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) The reason for the Balk rule is to prevent the pitcher from deceiving the runner on a base. What I never understood is why the Balk rule still applies when the bases are loaded, or when a runner is on 3B. The rule assumes the "deception" is the pitcher fooling the runner into thinking he's throwing to home. If a runner is on 3B, how would a pitcher deceive a runner at 3B if the bag being stolen IS home plate? You could argue, " Well the pitcher could throw to third and get the guy in a run down", but if he's attempting to steal home, the pitcher isn't going to have a better chance of getting the guy out by throwing to 3B, he would just finish his delivery to the plate The balk rule is also in place to prevent the deceiving of the batter. Thats part of the reason why the pitcher must come to a set position before delivering a pitch.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Someone had posted a website a few weeks back (maybe in the MLB catch-all?) that had a list of the highest, lowest, slowest, longest air time, etc. Anyone still have the website, or does anyone know if this one had the longest time-in-air as well? That's the site. hittrackeronline.com they do the physics behind every home run hit, every day. They also have video links to watch every home run. You can sort by height, velocity, etc.. too. They go back to 2005.

Is there any way to dump Rios and get Rasmus?
lasttriptotulsa replied to Lemon_44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) No way is he going to sign a cheaper extension than what was offered him, with or without his bad start. His start wasnt even all that bad for the most part, a lot of well pitched games and no offense whatsoever. He will get paid on the open market I agree. I think in this day and age, GMs are smart enough to overlook W/L records for pitchers. He also has the whole left-handed thing going for him. If guys like Randy Wolf can get $10 million a year, Danks is in line for a huge pay day. -
Interesting not, according to Hittrackeronline, Dunn's homer was the heighest hit in the Majors this season reaching an apex of 150ft.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) Getting Danks, or both of them, is getting older? John Danks would be gone after next year as the Cards will not have the money to sign him. Rios is much older and more expensive than Rasmus. -
Is there any way to dump Rios and get Rasmus?
lasttriptotulsa replied to Lemon_44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 05:55 AM) Rios is obviously dis-interested and dogging it this year. I've never seen a guy making about 15 mill look so unhappy. I tried to like Rios and thought he was avictim of bad luck because he was hitting the ball right at people. But it sure does look like he has shut it down. Would this be a feasible trade? Sox pick up a good chunk of Rios's salary and ship him and Danks to StL. for Rasmus. Am I under-valueing Danks and over-valueing Rasmus? Or both the Danks for Rasmus and just DFA Rios. The next few years an OF of Rasmus, Q, and Viciedo sounds good to me. Toronto got someone to bite on Vernon Wells contract, maybe the Sox can find a taker for Rios. With having to try and re-sign Pujols this offseason, the Cardinals do not have room to take on any salary. Rasmus is a better player, at a much cheaper cost than Rios who is under team control for the next 3-4 years. I'm not sure why they would be want to get rid of him for one year of Danks and a high cost player like Rios. It just can't happen. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 06:14 AM) I don't think the Sox need to acquire a center fielder. They could use either De Aza or Lillibridge, or platoon them. Both of them would also provide an alternative to the Pierre problem at lead off. That paves the way for Viciedo in LF. They just need to get rid of Rios. The Sox took the Rios contract without giving up anyone. If they can find someone to take him, even if they have to throw in a little salary relief, it would be worth it. Lillibridge and De Aza are not everyday Major League center fielders. -

White Sox vs Rockies First Pitch 2:10 CT
lasttriptotulsa replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Study this lineup and tell me we have a chance to win this division. No way. This is conceding today's game. And please don't say I'm over-reacting. This may be the worst lineup for a White Sox team I've seen in decades. Ozzie conceding games at this stage of the season is very troubling. Rios our cleanup hitter? Is this a cruel joke? QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) I have made the decision to not watch one pitch of this game. I can't imagine what to think if some poor Sox fan drove to todays' game in Colorado to watch that lineup. It's even weak defensively. You're over reacting. -

All-Star Voting -- How Ridiculous is this System?
lasttriptotulsa replied to shago's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Also, maybe don't open the voting ONE WEEK into the season. Maybe wait till June 1st. Here's my propositions that will NEVER happen: - Voting Begins June 1st - Voting can be done in ballparks as many times as you want - Voting online is limited to 5 per IP address - Players who have been on the disabled list for more than 30 days prior to June 1st are ineligible to receive votes and votes for those players will not count. or Just call it the FAN GAME from now on. Lots of good ideas here. I especially like the waiting until June 1st idea. A lot of times guys who don't even start, are on the ballot because the ballots are made at the beginning of the year. If they play for the Yankees or Red Sox, they will get many votes. Jed Lowrie comes to mind from last year or the year before. He was like third in voting. Ridiculous.
